Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently stored in a standard secure locker at Site-██.

Pre-removal SCP-XXXX-2 instances are contained in reinforced humanoid quarantine cells and monitored through video camera. Said instances are to be provided with food and entertainment through SALODS¹ protocols. Any unusual behavior or behavior pertaining to that of a post-removal SCP-XXXX-2 instances is to be reported immediately to the project supervisor for transport to Site-██’s medical division.

Subjects in the process of transformation into a post-removal SCP-XXXX-2 instance are to undergo standard face transplant surgery.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation for a collection of memetic images depicting an entity, tentatively designated SCP-XXXX-1. Memetic properties only extend to the images themselves. Reproductions, video recordings, and images of SCP-XXXX carry no anomalous properties.

Visual perception of an SCP-XXXX image invariably leads to a series of dreams affecting the viewer, designated as SCP-XXXX-2 or referred to as "the subject". SCP-XXXX-2 instances will experience a sequential series of four dreams. These dreams have common themes involving SCP-XXXX-1 and their bedroom. Subjects often report entering a dream state in which they experience waking up from their sleeping location and encountering SCP-XXXX-1.

After the four sequential dreams, SCP-XXXX-2 instances will begin to suffer from sleep paralysis and hallucinations of SCP-XXXX-1. 100 percent of test and reported cases have described insomnia. Subjects report deprivation of sleep, exhaustion, and paranoia. SCP-XXXX-2 instances also note a gradual degradation of visual, olfactory, and gustatory functions. After full degradation of said functions, SCP-XXXX-2 instances will attempt excision of the face with tools. Recorded instances have seen attempts using any possible instrument, ranging from scalpels to craft scissors. One notable instance was caught using a plastic knife designed for use in consumption. In absence of tools, subjects have attempted full face removal with fingernails and attached appendages. Subjects that have removed their faces are referred to as "post-removal SCP-XXXX-2 instances".

Underneath the area which the subject's face formerly covered is a large titanium plate covered with black aramid fabric. This plate will spontaneously appear before transition to post-removal status and replace the frontal area of the skull. Within three days, a generally featureless patch of human skin will develop on the titanium plate. Exceptions include two small perforations in the area consistent with the location of the subject's former nostrils, an elongated "mouth", and abnormally prominent incisors. How SCP-XXXX-2 instances survive severe injuries, loss of blood, and severe pain is unknown.

Foreword: SCP-XXXX-2-01 is the first known SCP-XXXX-2 instance. This interview is being conducted in order to gain information about SCP-XXXX. Note: SCP-XXXX-2-01 is a post-removal SCP-XXXX-instance. SCP-XXXX-2-01 is unaware of its status as a SCP-XXXX-2 instance and corresponding characteristics.

Dr. Reed: Good morning. I am currently monitoring your situation to determine our course of action. I will ask you several questions.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Questions? What kind of hospital is this? I can’t see, I can’t eat, I can’t do anything, and all you do is ask some questions? I didn’t pay insurance just to get an interview, I need a doctor! Now!

Dr. Reed: Calm down. Assistance will be provided. And if you need a doctor, he’s speaking to you. You’ll be fine, okay? You’re in better shape than we thought you were. All we need answers to determine your condition and your identity.

[Sound of heavy respiration from SCP-XXXX-2-01]

Dr. Reed: All right. I need your name and place of living, as well as those living in your household.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: My family! What about them? Do they know I’m here? Are they okay? Can I call them?

Dr. Reed: I’ll get you a phone later. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. We’ll take care of everything. In the meantime, our officers will verify your information first.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Okay. My name is Jordan Garrett and I live in █████████████, on ████ Street. I own an art gallery and help publish art books. I also have a wife and two kids.

Dr. Reed: Okay, we’ll make sure that your kids are okay. I’ll make sure that your paycheck is delivered.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Many thanks.

Dr. Reed: I need to ask you a few questions, though. That way, we can provide an accurate diagnosis of your problem.

[Subject pauses.]

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Well, I can’t see anything clearly. My eyesight’s been getting worse and worse since the first dream, but—

Dr. Reed: Hold on. The first dream?

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Lately, I’ve been getting these weird nightmares. Couple weeks ago. I don’t think that there’s anything in those nightmares that have to do with the problem here.

Dr. Reed: Probably a coincidence, then. Continue.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: So when I woke up, I noticed that everything looked a lot more blurry. I know that the shrink told me that I had degenerative myopia, but this blurriness was way worse than before. If you have my glasses, you’ll see that the lenses are pretty thick. Didn’t do shit when I put them on, though. I went to a few specialists, but they couldn’t find anything. Told me to get some sleep though. They were right, those nightmares were keeping me up all the time.

Dr. Reed: Have your doctors prescribed you any sleeping medications?

SCP-XXXX-2-01: No. Even if they did, I wouldn’t take them. I don’t want to get addicted.

Dr. Reed: Okay, then. Can you describe those nightmares for me?

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Well, of course I had nightmares before [laughs], and they’re always pretty random. Usually what was worrying me. Like, when I first started letting my kids go to school alone, I’d dream about them not looking where they were walking and falling onto the train tracks. It was bad, but then it would get better when they started calling me to let me know that they were okay. I’d wake up and forget about those nightmares. But now, it’s not getting any better. It’s gotten worse.

Dr. Reed: I know this can be difficult, but you need to continue.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Okay. So, I can’t really remember them that well, but over the past two weeks, I’ve been having this recurring nightmare in which I wake up in my own room, and it’s been scaring the shit out of me. In the dream, everything looks fine. But I’ve been seeing this thing. I don’t remember what it looks like, but I’ve seen it before.

Dr. Reed: Please try to remember its appearance.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: I can’t really describe it. I’ve seen it at the art gallery, though.

Dr. Reed: You saw it walking around at the gallery?

SCP-XXXX-2-01: No, just a painting of it.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: Actually, [voice becomes smoother, more sinister] how about I draw it for you?

[SCP-XXXX-2-01 suddenly reaches across the table and attempts to grab the pen and clipboard Dr. Reed is using.]

Dr. Reed: Holy shit!

[Dr. Reed triggers auto-restraints and security officers administer sedatives to SCP-XXXX-2-01. Subject is escorted back to its cell.]

Dr. Reed: How are you today, Mr. Garrett?

SCP-XXXX-2-01: I guess it’s better than yesterday. Sorry about what I did.
Dr. Reed: No problem. We’re trying to diagnose your condition. Have you encountered any more symptoms?

SCP-XXXX-2-01: No, just the usual annoyance.

Dr. Reed: Elaborate.
SCP-XXXX-2-01: It’s kinda hard to describe. Have you ever felt that feeling, when you have an itch and you know that it’s there, but it’s too vague to pinpoint where it is? So you go crazy trying to find it? Well, maybe not crazy, but you get the idea.

Dr. Reed: Yes, of course. Could it be an allergic reaction to something? Maybe it’s a mundane problem.

SCP-XXXX-2-01: No, I’m not allergic. It’s more like a mental thing, you know. It’s like procrastinating. Remember college? When I procrastinated and went off to watch a TV show or play a video game or whatever, I wouldn’t be able to completely enjoy whatever I was doing because I knew that I hadn’t finished my work or whatever. You know, the little voice in the back of your head saying, “You need to go back and finish studying for those midterms.” It’s like that, but in this case it’s bugging me to draw more of those pictures. Can I have some paper? It’s not as if there’s going to be any harm.
Dr. Reed: Sure, I’ll get some for you. One question. Do these discomfort ever change in form or intensify?
SCP-XXXX-2-01: Yes, it often start as something minor that isn’t even a problem. You can’t even tell if it was just your body behaving normally or if it is doing something to you. It can be an odd breeze passing by just a part of your body constantly, or an itch on your skin that won’t go away. If you ignore it for too long, it gets worse. I once felt it poking my eyeballs over and over again…
Dr. Reed: I am sorry, but did you say your eyeballs?
SCP-XXXX-2-01: Yes, why do you ask?
Dr. Reed: You do realize you don’t have eyes right?
SCP-XXXX-2-01: What?!
[SCP-XXXX-2-01 starts to feel his own face and attempt to locate his eyes at where it should be.]
SCP-XXXX-2-01: What is this, where are my eyes?!!! Why does my face feel different?
Dr. Reed: Interesting…let’s get back to this creature you speak of, you said…
SCP-XXXX-2-01: Fuck this interview, what the fuck happened to my face?!!!
Dr. Reed: Lower your tone or I will need to ask the guards to restrain you again.
[SCP-XXXX-2-01 remained silent for a moment as it clams down.]
SCP-XXXX-2-01: I…I am sorry, I am just lost right now. I will answer whatever you want, just please fix me.
Dr. Reed: Alright then, as I was saying, you said you were having multiple connected dreams, in which this creature you speak of appear. After that you proceed to lose your senses and become what you are now.
SCP-XXXX-2-01: That sounds about right.
Dr. Reed: Were there anything significant that happened before you start having those dreams that you can recall?
SCP-XXXX-2-01: ummmm…there was something odd now that I think about it. The creature, I saw it before the dreams.
Dr. Reed: Elaborate.
SCP-XXXX-2-01: I was clearing out my attic, and there was a box of stuff from the previous owner. I looked inside to see what is there, and there was an old sheet of paper with the creature’s face on it. The next night, I started having dreams about it and the rest you know.
Dr. Reed: That is very helpful, SCP-XXXX-2-01. That will be all for today.
SCP-XXXX-2-01: Wait.
Dr. Reed: Yes? Is there something else you want to add?
SCP-XXXX-2-01: Did you get a chance to contact my family? I just want to know how they are doing.
[Dr. Reed remains silent for a moment to think of a response.²]
Dr. Reed: They are fine, we informed them that you have been taken to a facility to be treated by a contagious disease. Is there anything else?
