Description: With an apparent length of fifty meters, SCP-#### is a bundle of optical fibre, that whilst being observed to be always active with flashes of light (or quanta) at each end, no viable data can be correlated by connection through a standard optical fibre connection. (See Experiment Log 01). Upon contact, SCP-#### causes minor disorientation that passes within a few minutes, and a lasting sense of vertigo increasing in intensity with extended use in excess of six or seven hours.

The Foundation became aware of the SCP's existence through correspondence with an informant in the Russian Military, with a rank equivalent to Sergeant in 2010. The Foundation Agent reported that SCP-#### (which was at the time assumed to be a bundle of regular optical fibre) could not be connected to any computer network due to a network-wide crash that would coincidentally occur. This led to several faults within many critical systems of Russia's Nuclear weapons silos and Radar stations. On one occasion, the Radar stations' signals returned aircraft four times the usual amount; resulting in a nation wide invasion alert for about six hours.

After investigation, it was determined through external testing that the radars reported ….

Unlike normal optical fibres, the informant told the Foundation in a later interview at Site-43 that the SCP appeared to shimmer when applied with extreme electromagnetic radiation during the testing of other military technologies. Later study shows that the shimmer is not explainable by all known methods of analysis. One suggested theory by Dr. Michael Fuller would go on to explain that the shimmer is possibly due to SCP-#### absorbing local radiation; however, this is not known for a fact as the equivalent radiation-energy being imposed upon it in several tests was not observed to be absorbed by all tests performed, including repetitions of the same tests some time later.

SCP-#### is further a mystery due to its seemingly impossible hume¹ value of 1040 roughly. Despite this, experimentation on D-283943 and D-98372 shows that this hume value does not affect anything or anyone tethered within SCP-####, for when it was wrapped around D-2743843 (henceforth Subject), the hume value (according to the Kant counter provided to the subject) did not waver from baseline (1 Hume) in the prime reality.

Further Tests as reported in Experimental Log 02 suggests that SCP-#### has the ability to protect its user from the outside hume value, as shown when Subject enters SCP-106's² dimension. For a time, the corrosive effects of the dimension were prevents by the rope. Experiment Log 02 also proved that SCP-#### has a theoretical infinite length whilst connecting between a person and an "anchor point" across dimensions. As also shown in Experiment Log 2, attempting to wind SCP-#### around a Scranton Reality Anchor set to maintain / change any Hume Value will cause an overload in its power systems. A hypothesis from Doctor Fuller suggested that given a sufficiently powerful reality anchor (synthetic, non-anomalous in origin), such an interaction could cause an electrical discharge on the scale of one-hundred to four hundred solar flares at once, causing a XK / ZK³ End of the World Scenario. Dr. Fuller is uncertain however, whether this will be because SCP-#### will leak excess reality from the Scranton Reality Anchor Field out, or just because the interaction is so energetic.

Under instruction of Dr. Fuller
SCP-#### was fitted with standard RJ45 connector and optical-electronic modulator at both of its ends, to facilitate interaction with SCP-####.
Upon the insertion of one of the ends to a disconnected test computer (hence forth labeled as SCP-####-A), the system crashed almost instantly after its display filled with an uncountable number of file system explorers, each showing what is discernibly slightly different - if not the same - files and/or data.

Upon application of safe-mode-restart procedure P-32 (Method is available as Addendum 1), the boot screen no longer showed the standard Foundation Entry Portal. The display instead showed mathematical equations; of a nature that caused Dr. ████████ to report sensations of dread and the thought of being watched. Dr. Fuller, who was present at the time as the Senior Researcher, took several photographs of the text on screen. On first observation, these equations seemed trivial, to Dr. Fuller, as they at first appeared to describe the way the universe fundamentally behaves. Equations such as Einstein's Special and General Relativity Equations featured, however, other coefficients were appended on; as if correcting for something.

Dr. ████████ recognized Schrödinger's equation, but also saw an impossible term added that in debriefing with Dr. Fuller and other researchers after the experiment had ceased, proved to demonstrate the connection between Classical and Quantum Mechanics. However, these adjustments were nothing minor, taking into account, and assuming that the value of reality (or "Hume") was intrinsically linked to this Fundamental Theory of Everything. The full implications are listed in Addendum 2.

On closer examination of SCP-####-A's hardware, changes were noticed in its fundamental architecture, including its installed RAM Memory; being artificially expanded to an incalculable amount, its system clock speed was also sped up by around three hundred percent of ordinary. Further, during attempts to access SCP-####-A's Services Manager, its processor core count jumped from 12 to 188; an increase of over 1200 percent. Despite the laws of physics being suggestive to the contrary, network traffic through SCP-#### was in the Peta-bits per second; a theoretical impossibility for a standard RJ-45 connective socket and optical wire; and for the computer's hardware in general. Despite this, the seeming impossible conversion of SCP-####-A allows it to handle the speed of data throughput.

Despite this however, SCP-####-A shutdown unexpectedly occurred about ten minutes into testing, later being determined to be its internal battery running out; despite being plugged in through a secure socket in Site-██.

Further tests revealed that the power being drawn from the battery (and subsequently, the isolated grid) was well in excess of both of their rated maximums, triggering an automatic fuse lockout and grid shutdown, nearly taking half of the electronic systems of Site-██ with it due to overspill.
Experiment 01 was terminated to let the battery recharge - taking approximately one month to do so.

Addendum 1

+ Restart Procedure P-32 (DECLASSIFIED)

Upon stall of a computer system involved in a SCP experiment of unknown magnitude, the following steps shall be enacted to ensure that the SCP remains contained and the integrity of the computer system involved.

Context: This procedure is to be enacted in emergency situations only, as the safety of the SCP and Computer System cannot be assured.

SCP Role: This procedure defines separate steps for how the SCP is involved with the Computer System. ….

Section 1 - Case of SCP being the Computer System

In this case, whereby the SCP is testing itself, attempts through a soft and hard shutdown must occur in that order to shut the Computer System down.

1. In the eventuality that the network itself is the SCP, the computer system should be disconnected, and hard drives secured following a security scan for malware of any kind (using an external system), forgoing the eventuality that the malware is used as a testing agent against the SCP.
   • If possible, the computer should then be removed from any physical access to the SCP.
   • In the event this cannot work, damage to the computer is permitted to forcibly disconnect the computer from the network. In most cases, opening the case of the computer and using an electronics torch to melt the welding between the networking interface (card) and motherboard should work.
     • In the extreme case that this is not possible, use of necessary force to pry the SCP from the computer's terminal can be attempted, however, in this extreme, situation, this will probably not work, and as such use of other Thaumiel SCPs can be utilized (as available and cleared by 04-Site Administrators or equivalent).
2. Following this, the Computer System should then be forcibly shut down. Toggling the power should suffice to do this; however:
   • In the scenario where the power will not disconnect in this fashion, a miniaturized EMP can be utilized. However, due to the potential for other systems to be affected, this procedure needs to be cleared by an 03-Senior Researcher in consultation with Site Operations, to coordinate the shutdown of all nearby electronics.
     • As usual, if this fails, but seems to show an effect, a larger EMP should be utilized, however, clearance from the Site Administrator (Level 04) must be valid. As with the nature of this blast, under regulations imposed by the 05-Council, all electronic systems must be secured and at least one MTF squad should be in place to deal with a potential Total Containment Failure (if one should occur). To prevent this, other protocols have been implemented at every facility, site-wide, that attempt to contain SCPs in the event of EMPs or other electronics-damaging events.
     • However, if the EMP shows no effect, it can be assumed that the SCP has somehow become the Computer, or is protecting it somehow, and a reclassification of the SCP to an appropriate class should be made. Following this, the usage of Reality-bending equipment can be trialed, given 04-Site Administrator and Two 03-Senior Researcher authorizations have been given, whom of which one must have appropriate knowledge of Reality Physics, preferably having sat the Mechanics of Reality Specialty Course, having at least passed.
3. If reality altering equipment fails to separate the computer and network (as is only permitted by 04-Site Administrator authorization), or shutdown the computer system, then immediate reclassification of the SCP to include the Computer System either as a sub-SCP or an integral part of the SCP definition should occur, and attempts to contain both should be made, if not already. Movement of this reclassified SCP is permitted under the guard of 2 MTF Squads and a Scranton Reality Anchor.
