Special Containment Procedures: Global DPK levels are to be monitored for fluctuations in excess of 250 DPK. Abnormalities should be documented and reported to the appropriate field office.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1, including Foundation personnel, are to receive a sub-dermal tag for the purpose of indefinite monitoring. SCP-XXXX-1 entities must remain in standard humanoid containment at Site-██ until the Foundation ascertains their anomalous properties or a lack thereof.

Maintain among the general public the impression that SCP-XXXX is a hoax or urban legend.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Reality Disruption Event of unknown origin. SCP-XXXX events occur at times and locations of seemingly random specificity. More data is needed in order to reject the hypothesis of a correlation with barometric pressure.

SCP-XXXX events are preceded by fluctuations in ambient DPK levels ranging between 300-356 DPK. DPK levels stabilize in the minutes leading up to the event.

During an SCP-XXXX event, human subjects in an affected area of up to 100 square meters spontaneously de-manifest. Absence time varies from 21 seconds up to 3 minutes. Subjects will subsequently re-manifest at their previous location, with no apparent knowledge of the event.

Subjects affected by SCP-XXXX, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, are potentially themselves anomalous. Due to small sample sizes and inconsistent data, signs of anomalous status are not well documented. The following symptoms may be anomalous:

  • Partial memory loss
  • Minor alterations of personality (heightened aggression, lower patience, lower aptitude for co-operation. In addition, some data suggests SCP-XXXX-1 score lower social tolerance marks on Hyder-Eidel personality tests post-exposure.)
  • Moderate insomnia
  • Decreased appetite
  • Increased light sensitivity
  • Constant generation of a localized, half-phase DPK field registering at ~4 DPK1

Not all SCP-XXXX-1 entities manifest symptoms, and rarely are all symptoms present in a single instance. Additionally, due to the unpredictable nature of SCP-XXXX, baseline data is usually lacking. Further research is required to confirm the anomalous nature of SCP-XXXX-1 entities. It should be noted that while symptoms appear inconsistently among the subject population, there is no evidence that they fade over time.

Further research is urgently required.

Addendum-XXXX-A1: Initial Discovery: An urban myth alluding to the existence of SCP-XXXX was first recorded on 08/12/1998, when field agents secured testimonies describing the disappearance and subsequent re-appearance of twenty-four pre-schoolers in Altos, Maine. Subjects were contained and classified. No anomalous phenomena were recorded.

Suspected SCP-XXXX activity has occurred thirty-six times since initial classification. In all cases, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have been located and contained. Possible anomalous phenomena have been observed and documented. The Foundation currently holds ██ instances of SCP-XXXX-1. ██ ████████ █████████ ███ ███, ████████ ███-████-█ ███.

UPDATE XXXX-A2: While special containment procedures remain in effect, ongoing XXXX research has been halted by order of O5 Command per Directive Shibboleth-XXXX-01/02/2016.

Notice of Appeal 01/05/2016: Permission to view the full text of Shibboleth-XXXX-01/02/16 and be informed of the directive's intent.

TO DO: Addendum detailing allegations of high-level Foundation personnel being SCP-XXXX-1. The first report to go through official whistleblower channels prompts the creation of an internal affairs investigation led by Agent Z.

TO DO: Addendum detailing the stonewalled attempts by the original personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX to resume research and documentation of the anomaly or to at least find out why they were removed from the project.

TO DO: The internal investigation is repeatedly lied to and/or gaslighted by assistants to the O5 Council. As more evidence emerges that at least some of the council are instances of SCP-XXXX-1, the claims switch from blanket denials to arguments that exposure to SCP-XXXX, a supposedly "harmless" anomaly, is not disqualifying.

TO DO: Agent Z shifts to interviewing senior staff for information. The documentation turns into a log of Foundation discourse displaying the divergent opinions among senior staff. Some support the idea that anomalous members of the O5 Council should be removed and contained while others cite the unilateral authority of the Council. Debates get more heated. According to some accounts, O5 behavior has become more erratic. Skeptics dig aggresively into the idea that the Council was never elected and that nobody knows where they come from or how to hold them accountable when their decisions cause harm. (Keep in mind, O5 members' identities and locations are classified. There's an argument to be made that bringing them into containment could compromise security.)

TO DO: Widespread criticism of the council clashes against supporters. Debate begins to make its way to researchers and junior staff. Foundation begins to polarize into two camps of opinion.

TO DO: O5 activity becomes somewhat more erratic. Finally, they submit to nominal testing, and are cleared of any anomalies. However, the authenticity of the reports is largely disputed due to extensive redactions and accusations of tampering. Two alternate reports float around in unofficial channels, one detailing extreme anomalous activity and recommending immediate containment, while the other details moderate anomalies but fails to reach a conclusion.

TO DO: Debate becomes prevalent in Foundation culture. The two camps begin to develop their own lingo. Talks begin of removing affected O5 members and replacing them. The phrase 'abuse of power' floats around a lot.

TO DO: Crisis event (such as a containment breach or the appearance of a dangerous, possibly cross-linked anomaly) takes focus off of the debate. In the interim, high-ranking members of the Opposition camp suddenly change their opinions or are quietly removed from their positions.

TO DO: Business returns to normal. Opposition sentiment gradually dissolves in the face of the usual onslaught of anomalous crises.

TO DO: Internal Affairs Agent Z is amnesticized and reassigned to field work. Evidence is confiscated. The complete dossier becomes lost.

TO DO: Transcript of a secret recording of an O5 Council debate that took place behind closed doors. Members of the Council who were in favor of entering voluntary quarantine until thorough testing was done on all of them argue with members who think that the Council cannot afford to step back from the operations of the Foundation. "We die in the dark so they can live in the light," "All that stands between the world and annihilation," "Every day is a crisis," etc. Pro-quarantine members point out that their arguments pervert the objectives of the Foundation. The debate culminates with an ominous declaration from a senior O5 Councilperson that the Foundation is not a democracy.

RESOLUTION XANADU

Containment protocols are not applicable to active members of the O5 Council. Active members of the O5 Council are exempt from anomalous classification.
