SCP-XXXX inside its display case at Site-██

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a room with dimensions no smaller than a 3 x 4-meter area, or that of a small bedroom. The room itself should not contain any potential hazards that could harm or interfere with personnel testing SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX is required to stay locked inside a glass display with the dimensions greater than 40 cm x 40 cm. When SCP-XXXX is not in use, the object should stay within its display case. The display case is treated with a chemical compound that helps reduce the effect of SCP-XXXX. For safety reasons, personnel is required to be accompanied by one other individual during testing. At least two guards should protect the room itself at all times.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a 37 cm x 37 cm pillow made from synthetic polyester fabric and stuffing. The back of the pillow is black, with the front being printed with various symbols synonymous with the Illuminati and the Zodiac. The shape of the pillow has been deformed slightly from use, with faded 5-point star decals within the inner circle of the graphic. Fiber samples taken from the pillow show no abnormalities.

SCP-XXXX will cause drowsiness within a sapient entity after it rests on the printed side of the object, which will induce natural REM sleep. Once asleep, the person cannot be woken by any auditorial stimuli and must wake naturally or through physical contact. Only one person can use the pillow at a time and must remain in a position conducive to sleep. It has not been shown to have any effect on infants, non-sapient animals, or inorganic objects, sentient or otherwise.

LEVEL FIVE ACCESS REQUIRED. Validate?

Once a subject utilizes SCP-XXXX for approximately 1 minute, its anomalous characteristics will begin to manifest. The subject's (hereby designated as "the sleeper") consciousness will be forced into a state of lucid reality. The form these realities take varies between sleepers, with each vision basing around the sleepers' personality, memories, typical dreams, and mental health. The logic in which these lucid realities operate vary between sleepers as well, ranging between realistic to fantastical. Sleepers who are blind, deaf, or possess any signs of mental disorder are still affected by SCP-XXXX. In turn, the ability to interact with this lucid reality is only accessible through SCP-XXXX. Testing has concluded that any subjects who sleep on SCP-XXXX for more than 12 hours will experience major neural damage, resulting in subjects entering into a comatose state.

The lucid realities are visually projected in an approximate 10 m radius around the sleeper. These effects cannot be recorded or monitored through media such as video or audio, however, it can extend to those within the mentioned vicinity of SCP-XXXX. Within this radius, conscious subjects can view what the sleeper sees; with visuals acting similarly to that of modern virtual reality. As the sleeper travels within the lucid reality, conscious subjects will follow the sleeper regardless if they are moving. This is negated once a conscious subject moves away from SCP-XXXX.

Once the subject awakens, the effects of SCP-XXXX are significantly reduced. Subjects who wake up from the object report feeling elated, with the majority saying they were "well-rested," after using SCP-XXXX. More testing is required to determine how SCP-XXXX can suppress it's anomalous functions after any particular subject wakes up and steps away from it.

Addendum XXXX.1

Recovery

SCP-XXXX-1 was discovered by the Foundation on ██/██/20██ in the city of ███████████. Reported cases of sudden onset amnesia and extreme changes in behaviors called for an investigation. Affiliates with one of the amnesia victims confessed their association with the case when brought in for questioning. The group were fans of a popular tabletop roleplaying game and utilized SCP-XXXX-1 during their sessions. The original owner of SCP-XXXX-1 was outed as the source of issues by his peers, being regarded as the "leader" of their role-playing sessions and being the only one who was "properly able to use [SCP-XXXX-1]" as stated by a member.

When asked about the exact nature of these sessions, they revealed that their "leader" (regarded as the "DM" or "Dream Master" by the group) would utilize the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 to engage in interactive roleplay sessions. In turn, the actions of the "DM" and by extension the entire group caused turmoil in various lucid realities of different people. Most cases reported after these sessions resulted in one or many people undergoing extreme psychological shifts. This includes but is not limited to, 4 cases of attempted homicide from previously docile individuals, 9 cases of early-onset depression in children between the ages of █ and ██, a man with selective mutism suddenly becoming talkative and extroverted, two cases of sudden amnesia, and the development of [DATA EXPUNGED] in █ people.

After information was collected, members of the group were administered a class-C amnestic excluding the "DM" who was brought in for more explicit questioning¹. The subject retaliated with denials, claims of false accusations, and resistance before he was forced into custody by personnel. SCP-XXXX-1 was brought into the Foundation along with the "DM" after recovering both from his home.

Interviewed: Duncan M███████, alternatively known as "DM" by his peers

Interviewer: Agent Theodore ███████

Foreword: Following his arrest, Duncan M███████ (hereby known as DM) was brought in for questioning. The following is his interview with the agent that led the operation to uncover information on SCP-XXXX and its effects.

Theodore: So, Duncan M███████-

DM: Please, just call me DM, that's what all my friends do. Then again, I'm not sure I could consider you my "friend." Just consider it me saving you the time.

Theodore: Of course… DM…. do you understand why you're here today?

DM: Because a couple of sessions went wrong? Listen, I controlled what the scenarios were: not what my friends did in them. We had to stop after J████ couldn't to talk to us when he woke up the next day. It honestly sucked, he made a great warrior.

Theodore: Sir, this isn't exactly about your friends, this is about SCP-XXXX. Your friends told us that it might be the reason these things could be happening.

DM: Oh you mean the pillow? It's fascinating, innit?

Theodore: Yes, but we have some questions that we wish for you to answer.

DM: And you expect me to answer you, just like that?

Theodore: You're currently talking to one of the most secretive organizations in the world, in some unknown part of the world, where we could do whatever we want with you. Trust me, you will give us answers.

DM: Huh. 'Kay then bossy [EXPLETIVE]. You want to understand the things I've seen and done? Hah, that's cute. It's magic, what else do you think it could be? That's why we used it for our sessions. It's D&D, magic is a huge part of it after all.

Agent Theodore lets out an audible sigh followed by a moment of silence.

Theodore: Okay, alright. We'll start the easy way, how did you first learn about its effects?

DM: About a year ago after I found it at a yard sale. The gang and I had just finished our session and we decided to have a movie party and camp out in the living room or something. My buddy G██████ fell asleep during the second movie and suddenly we were in this weird sky-land. Nobody had any idea what was going on, but G██████ looked like he was awake. He was just standing on the edge of this cliff. We couldn't even see the living room anymore, it was just this weird world. There were these flying things and G██████ was calling out for us. We tried talking to him but he couldn't hear us, and suddenly he fell. As soon as he passed through the fog the world was gone and we were all back in the living room. G██████ screamed.

Theodore: What did you do with SCP-XXXX after that?

DM: The pillow? I dunno, I didn't think much of it at first. I don't think G██████ went back to sleep on it after that, though. A couple of days later I fell asleep on it myself and "woke" up in a different world. It was something that could only happen in dreams, it almost looked like Mordor.

Theodore: During these sessions when you used SCP-XXXX-

DM: Why do you need to keep calling it that? It's a pillow. Just call it what it is bro.

Theodore: It's protocol.

DM: Huh, a little puppet of big brother. Right, okay. Anyways, what were you saying?

Theodore: What happened during your roleplay sessions?

DM: I'd take a nap on the pillow, and have the party near me so they could follow me around the Psychiverse, that's what I took to calling it. They'd help me out along the way and it got to the point that I could kinda recreate their characters in the dream and they could control them sort of. I couldn't really hear them but it was fun as hell… up until we went to J████'s world and caused the apocalypse in it.

Theodore: Caused the apocalypse? Psycho-verse? What are you talking about?

DM: Am I confusing you, science man? Yeah, it was carnage. The entire world was cool, but it was extremely dangerous. The only way we could complete the story was to destroy the source of power in the world to end the evil. But the next day J████ woke up blubbering like a baby.

Theodore: Did you make the connection of his ailment being related to what you did the night before?

DM: Not until later, we had to call his mom, but we didn't tell her exactly what happened. She was already crying enough, I didn't need to hear more of that.

Theodore: You mentioned a thing called the "Psycho-verse", what is that?

DM: It's Psychiverse, get it right. I coined the term after I figured out how to move through other worlds. It's what I call that whole lucid dream place, and also the hub world. It's like a world of dream bubbles from ████████ you know?

Agent Theodore goes silent.

Theodore: I don't… I don't know what ████████ is, and I don't need to know.

DM: It's better that way. So, we done here doc?

Theodore: It's Agent, and no, I still have more questions for you.

DM: Damn haven't I told you guys enough already?

Theodore: You've told us plenty, but there's still more information that we need. If you aren't willing to explain more than we can just discover the information on this object ourselves.

DM leans forward on the table with his hands folded.

DM: You think you guys can figure out about the Psychiverse without me? That you can just test and experiment your way to results? I've been doing this for almost a year now, and there's still more I have yet to discover. Honestly, I'd love to see you all try, and if you can even handle the things you'll see. "Phony" magic may just be science to you, but this is the real deal.

Theodore: Then we'll ask when you're willing to be more compliant.

Closing Statement: Following the interview Duncan M███████ was placed into Foundation custody to await further questioning. After a period of █ months, when more information was able to be gathered, DM was released back to the public after being administered a class-C amnestic.

Addendum XXXX.2

The contents of the lucid realities are capable of exhibiting peaceful to hostile environments and bear the chance to contain entities. They exist solely in the person's reality and can be hostile, friendly, or neutral. Their appearances, behaviors, and roles differ alongside the lucid realities. They are capable of harming the sleeper during their rest. In turn, should the sleeper be harmed in any way, they will awake. This includes death within the lucid reality. No injuries will be found on the sleeper, regardless of the incident. They do, however, they report feeling pain.

Everything occurring up until waking can be witnessed within the effect radius of SCP-XXXX-1. Those conscious can hear, smell, and subtly feel occurrences within this radius. Additionally, they are able to instigate minor changes to the sleeper's lucid reality during this period of time. Changes happen naturally to the sleeper and are typically never drastic. The sleeper can, however, instigate large or dramatic changes within their or other's lucid realities².

Modifications to these lucid realities have been recorded to be powerful enough to completely alter a subject's psyche or sub-conscious. Serious changes to the sub-conscious have been reported to cause major cranial-neural reconstruction, having the ability to wipe a sleeper or separate subject of their memories and personality. Further testing proved that a subject is psychologically linked directly to their corresponding lucid reality.

Subject's world took on the form of a dilapidated city filled with faceless entities. No reaction could be derived from the entities when interacted with. Splashes of color came in the form of unreadable graffiti. The size of objects shifted constantly, with no clear perspective being established.	Subject showed signs of discomfort immediately upon viewing her lucid reality. She explored regardless, making notes to herself as she explored. Eventually, she became mildly more comfortable with the experience. Upon waking the subject expressed feeling well-rested, but lonely, as if she was "missing someone."	Subject requested to see ████ following the test, the request was denied. No change in mental state was observed following the test, the post-testing caused an increase of trichotillomania symptoms.
A 31-year-old male diagnosed with PTSD, insomnia, and depression; has a history of substance abuse prior to rehabilitation. The subject was asked to explore and alter parts of his lucid reality once the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 took place. Slept for a duration of 3 hours.	The overall world was dark, taking on an abstract reality of floating rock formations amidst a black void. A gelatinous-like substance resembling nebulas floated amidst these formations, which the subject displayed an ability to freely control. Some formations held structures ranging from shacks to towers, though no entities were recorded.	Subject immediately began to shape the gel to his desire, using to navigate through the formations. Utilizing this, he altered the appearance of a dilapidated home to a repaired state, furnishing the interior with the gel. Upon waking up the subject stated he was content and in a state of peace.	Psychological evaluations done on the subject following testing over the course of the next few weeks showed reduced symptoms of depression, noting that he felt "[he] could do a lot more for [his] family now."
78-year-old female diagnosed with dementia and is regularly visited by her family in the nursing home she holds residence in. The subject was asked to explore and alter parts of her lucid reality once the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 took place. Slept for a duration of 7 hours.	The world took on a painterly quality, with most of the scenery appearing to be made of watercolor and acrylic mediums. The environment resembled a flowering prairie in spring, with iridescent clouds in the sky. Peaceful entities constructed of paper and wool were noted and regarded the subject in a friendly manner. The subject was observed to shape these entities into friends and family members both alive and deceased.	Upon seeing the world the subject regarded its beauty, noting familiarities and maintaining a positive attitude. After shaping the entities, they began to act the roles they were given and traversed the landscape alongside the subject. Upon waking up the subject requested to go back to sleep so she could see her family again, she was returned to her nursing home shortly after receiving a class-A amnestic.	Reports of the subject retaining memories of her visitors were noted, though she did not appear to retain any other memories. She was later recorded to have continually mentioned her parents, requesting to see them, who had passed ██ years prior.
██ year-old male diagnosed with [DATA EXPUNGED]. The subject was asked to explore and alter parts of his lucid reality once the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 took place. Slept for a duration of 3 hours.	At first, only a cramped jail cell was observed, with the subject immediately expressing distress and discomfort with the situation. Further examination revealed entities outside of the cell, varying in size and shape with all exhibiting a grey hue. A low bellowing was noted to come from afar, though the source of the noise was deemed indeterminate. The only source of color took the form of rusted metal and faded paint on the walls.	The subject managed to escape the cell, finding the entities locked in similar confinements. When the subject found a key, he was noted to reluctantly unlock one of the cells containing 3 entities, noting that the action was "in the name of science." Upon the door opening the entities quickly fled, emitting a high-pitched screech before other entities began to escape their prison. The subject attempted to retreat but was attacked by an entity vaguely resembling a reptile. Upon being maimed in the lucid reality, the subject woke to scream in distress.	Following the test, the subject behaved much more sporadically than before. Violent outbursts and incoherent ramblings were observed, speaking about how he "shouldn't have let them out" and that he "thought [he] had forgotten what had happened." When questioned, the subject attempted to bite the interviewer and was quickly sedated. The use of a class-C amnestic was applied, however, proved ineffective at nullifying the effects.

I think we're ready to go farther, even if I'm not entirely pleased with these results. We proved that we could manipulate the worlds, or that the sleeper could. I think we should test the limit on these lucid realities. If I'm to believe this "Psychiverse" mentioned is real, then we need to work on finding it. Should I need to sleep myself, I will. I don't get outside often, I never had the money for adventures; this is a chance to see the world through different eyes.

Addendum XXXX.3

One consistency has been recorded within these lucid realities and takes the form of a large stone monolith carved with runes of an unknown origin. Sleepers who interact with the monolith in their lucid reality are taken to a location designated as SCP-XXXX-2; unlike the lucid realities, SCP-XXXX-2 is unaffected by their mental state.

SCP-XXXX-2 is a location outside of the lucid realities, which tests have concluded it is not an alternate dimension. Instead, it is the collective psyche of every living sentient entity able to be affected by SCP-XXXX-1. The rules in which SCP-XXXX-2 operate are unknown, with no clear logic being followed. It has been visually described as a void filled with pockets of other lucid realities in an immeasurable distance.

Within SCP-XXXX-2, sleepers can access the lucid realities of living subjects than can be affected by SCP-XXXX-1. This is regardless of the subjects are conscious or not. Methods of accessing these realities are inconsistent, excluding one proven method. Should the sleeper continually think of an individual and proceed in any direction, they will eventually be able to interact with the monolith within that person's reality and access it.

Once inside, the sleeper can interact with and change it. Modifications made to these lucid realities have shown to directly affect a person's psyche, with severe cases resulting in [DATA EXPUNGED]. Sleepers are still bound to the logic of the lucid reality and are can still be harmed and forcefully woken.

If the person is conscious, the sleeper can still interact and alter their perception of the world. Any changes made to their perception will not reflect upon their being until their next sleep cycle. Should the person be asleep, the sleeper on SCP-XXXX-1 can run the chance of encountering the person within their reality. However, the owner of the lucid reality will be unaware of the sleeper's presence and their own within it.

Those who experience lucid dreams regularly have shown less mental strain and degradation, while others show significant psychological damage following an interaction with SCP-XXXX-2. In addition, those expressing an unsympathetic nature show signs of resisting effects of SCP-XXXX-2. The reasoning behind this is being researched, though thus far has been inconclusive.

Access Exploration Log XXXX.1

Foreword: The following is a series of tests conducted in an attempt to access SCP-XXXX-2 and any lucid realities linked to it. Each test was overseen by Researcher B██████ with permission from a level 4 staff member. Each exploration was to be kept at a maximum of 10 hours to prevent the subject from entering a comatose state following incident XXXX.A⁵. Those sleeping on SCP-XXXX-1 were to be accompanied by 5 other researchers in order to monitor and record each session.

The designated team of 6 members thusly dubbed themselves "The Dreamwalkers" in honor of the group the pillow was retrieved from. The group consisted of the aforementioned Researcher B██████, Dr. Harper, Jr. Researchers J██ & P██████, Agent Theodore ███████, and Dr. Jorunna.

Sleeper: Dr. Jorunna
Lucid Reality (LR) Appearance: Resembled a science lab in a similar fashion to the Foundation facility she worked at, however it was completely submerged underwater. Typical water damage and degradation were noted, as well as the main populous of entities consisting of sea slugs along with other typical marine wildlife; the sea slugs were able to communicate with Dr. Jorunna.
Duration: 6 hours
Notes: Dr. Jorunna was able to traverse the lab without hindrance from the water or marine life, and questioned the sea slugs for a possible way out. Most regarded that they never believed there to be a way out, and she was left to search for the link to SCP-XXXX-2 on her own.

Sleeper: Dr. Jorunna
LR Appearance: Same as before, though upon investigation the sea slugs had grown in number. When asked, Dr. Jorunna explained that she had been thinking about them ever since the previous test.
Duration: 7 hours
Notes: A different route was taken during the test, with more rooms explored along the way. Eventually, Dr. Jorunna was able to locate a departure from the laboratory setting in the form of a temple closely resembling ancient Mayan architecture. Upon a pedestal was an obelisk that Dr. Jorunna was urged to interact with. Coming into contact with the obelisk caused Dr. Jorunna to warp to what is now known as SCP-XXXX-2, in which she woke up shortly after.

This is it! We found the link to the Psychiverse, it's just like that DM guy described it to be too… surprisingly. All we need to do is find a consistent way to locate the object and spend most of our research time in that location in order to figure out how it truly works. It's a bit of a shame that Jorunna woke up after she had gotten to it, but I suppose the shock and awe of the sheer scale of it will do that to you. - Researcher B██████

[FOUND.4564]: I'm aware, but I can't help the thought of it. Have you read through the documentation yet?

root: I'm about half-way. Seem's interesting. How do you think we can have access to it?

[FOUND.4564]: You're asking me? You're the one with "ultimate power." I thought you had a plan?

root: Watch yourself.

[FOUND.4564]: Alright, my bad. Anyways, do you have a plan?

root: I might. I'll have to talk to some of the higher-ups about it though. No promise that we can hold onto it for long.

[FOUND.4564]: I'm not particularly worried. I mean, we only need it for a few hours. That's all it takes.

root: Interesting… I'll see what I can do. Pay attention to your screen, you'll be getting something soon.

[FOUND.4564]: Sound's fair enough. Anything else I need to know?

root: You get caught, we die.

[FOUND.4564]: That sounds pretty important. Alright, I'll be waiting.

root: You better not be wasting my time. I asked for your assistance directly. Don't make me regret it.
