Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-XXXX's nature, containment is less about preventing collateral damage and more about minimizing it.

During active periods of SCP-XXXX, cults will form in surrounding areas for the purpose of locating SCP-XXXX-4 and offering them to SCP-XXXX-3.

During these active periods, field agents are to be dispatched to afflicted areas to locate SCP-XXXX-3 and SCP-XXXX-4. Cult members are almost always immediately hostile if any of their values or missions are challenged or interrupted. Even if field agents tell the cult members that they are on their side, said field agents will still usually be met with violence.

Once SCP-XXXX-3 is located, field agents are to cooperate with him in the search for SCP-XXXX-4.

When all of these procedures are enacted, SCP-XXXX-3 will take SCP-XXXX-4 to SCP-XXXX-2, where the cycle is completed and SCP-XXXX enters the passive stage. Amnestics will be applied to all surviving cult members and local populace before they are re-integrated into society. A cover story about mass hysteria will then be issued to the surrounding populace. Friends and families of Equolance victims will be told that their loved ones have gone missing.

These events are cyclical and are to be followed unless and until a permanent solution to neutralize SCP-XXXX has been found.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the umbrella term that refers to the combined internal workings of SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2, SCP-XXXX-3, SCP-XXXX-4, SCP-XXXX-5, SCP-XXXX-6, SCP-XXXX-7, SCP-XXXX-8, SCP-XXXX-9, and SCP-XXXX-10.

SCP-XXXX-1, hereby dubbed Equolance, is a sub-layer of reality that largely resembles the 'normal' layer, albeit with a few exceptions. This secondary layer has no sun; the shadow of a massive pair of feathered wings is found instead. There is a purple haze that hangs in the air, which has been noted to be very disorienting. There are nests where the various waste products of SCP-XXXX-2 congregate and feed on victims.

SCP-XXXX-2, dubbed ███████ , is the presumed creator of Equolance. It's an entity that—during passive stages—is mostly submerged in an unidentifiable black fluid that has a consistency similar to water. At almost all times, the only visible part of its body is a large pair of feathered wings that extend out of the liquid.

During active stages of SCP-XXXX, ███████'s body will be exposed at a steady rate due to its rapid consumption of the black liquid in which it is submerged. It is during this period that victims will leak the very liquid before they disappear from the main layer of reality and emerge in Equolance.

The most defining warning signal of Equolance victims is that their vision becomes completely filled with Visual Snow, the condition where one sees what resembles television static in their vision. Once the victim is sufficiently blinded by this effect, they are lost.

The flesh of ███████'s wings ripple and flow in a fluid-like manner, fluctuating in size. The width of the wings is indeterminable; this is due to their inconsistent size as well as the fact that no tools can be transferred between reality and Equolance. ███████ produces waste products on a regular basis, similar to the manner of a normal organic being. Its waste products are animate and have been designated as SCP-XXXX-6, SCP-XXXX-7, SCP-XXXX-8, SCP-XXXX-9 and SCP-XXXX-10. (For details on waste products, see report below.)

SCP-XXXX-3 is a young caucasian male named Rowan Fithings; he has declared himself as ███████'s caretaker. Visually, he has no remarkable features whatsoever, save for his long black hair and purple eyes. When questioned about his eyes, he notes that they were once brown. In a similar manner to ███████, Rowan's waste matter is animate and hostile to perceived threats. He has displayed complete control over them; he is able to command them to attack any being in sight with pure telepathy. He is also capable of quelling their aggression, to the point of complete docility.

SCP-XXXX-4, dubbed the Spring, is always designated to any human that has, by unknown means, been marked by ███████. It is during this period that a shared dream will infect many members of the population of the hometown of the Spring. Every instance of this shared dream will all display the Spring in vivid detail, all off them leading the dreamer to said Spring via golden trails. When enough dreamers have experienced this shared dream, they will invariably come together to form a cult dedicated to hunting down the Spring for the sole purpose of offering him/her to Rowan Fithings.

SCP-XXXX-5, dubbed the cult, is the collective population of dreamers who have all shared the same dream to locate the Spring. They will raid and pillage every surrounding area for the reason of finding the Spring. They are always aggressive and hostile to non-Cult members, willing to commit homicide at any signs of resistance. The Spring is their only spared victim.

Once Rowan Fithings locates the Spring, he can immediately take them to Equolance. When he performs this task, an immense volume of black fluid will emerge from his pores and skin and engulf the Spring, effectively transferring them to Equolance.

Equolance transference is capable of taking exclusively human bodies to said sub-layer of reality; clothing, animals, and other objects are not capable of such transference.

Once Rowan Fithings transfers the Spring to Equolance, the Birds will then descend upon the two and carry them into the shadow of the wings in the sky. Once the subjects make contact with it, they will emerge into ███████'s den, where Rowan Fithing will force the Spring onto their knees. Through unknown means, they will then transform into a statue-like structure, where they will gush their golden fluids into ███████'s black pool. Once this occurs, SCP-XXXX will re-enter a passive stage, usually lasting between █ and ████████████ days.

After the latest active stage in ███████, Agent ███████ was able to interview Rowan Fithings, who is currently being held at Site-███.

Interviewed: SCP-XXXX-3

Interviewer: Agent ██████

Foreword: Agent ██████ interviews SCP-XXXX-3 on how he has come to have involvement with SCP-XXXX.

<Begin Log>

Agent ██████: Good evening, SCP-XXXX-3—

SCP-XXXX-3: Rowan.

Agent ██████: Yes, Rowan. Please explain the mechanics of SCP-XXXX-1 to me.

SCP-XXXX-3: That's Equolance. Equolance is the purple world underneath our regular, every day society. The Beauteous One is the one who made it.

Agent ██████: The Beauteous One?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yes. The monster in the black waters.

Agent ██████: Ah, SCP-XXXX-2. How does it take its victims?

SCP-XXXX-3: Everybody is filled with a fluid that keeps them anchored in reality. It drinks that out of them, taking them to its home.

Agent ██████: Why do you call it the Beauteous One?

SCP-XXXX-3: That's what the cult members call them.

Agent ██████: How do you organize your cult?

SCP-XXXX-3: I don't. They always form themselves. I can find the Spring just fine every time, but they're always around to actually bring them to me.

Agent ██████: Are there any warning signs before a victim is taken?

SCP-XXXX-3: Well, yeah, but by the time you see them, you're already gone.

Agent ██████: What are they?

SCP-XXXX-3: First, the floaters in your eyes get thicker and thicker. Everybody thinks they're just some gunk stuck in your eyeballs. It's actually the brain's method of filtering the Equolance beast's existence so the average joe doesn't see them. Same with Visual Snow. That's the condition where somebody sees TV static in their vision. When the Beauteous one drinks you, you see nothing but static. That's when you know you're gone. Once you're in Equolance, some of your vision comes back. Maybe it's your brain finally giving up and just deciding that seeing your killer is better than not.

Agent ██████: Equolance beasts?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah. There are beasts in Equolance. They're the Beauteous One's piss, [EXPLETIVE] (for feces), feathers, skin, and tears. It drinks people's waters, its waste babies eats a little ball of light from their hearts.

Agent ██████: What is this ball of light of which you speak?

SCP-XXXX-3: Their souls, I guess.

Agent ██████: I see.

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah.

Agent ██████: I've been told that you cooperate with Foundation agents during active stages. We only ever suffered a few losses during our first deployment, but on every other subsequent mission, we never suffered any loss of further personnel. Why is that?

SCP-XXXX-3: I told the Beauteous One to stop taking them.

Agent ██████: You have that level on control over SCP-XXXX-2?

SCP-XXXX-3: I have no control over it. I can just ask it to not drink a few people. That's it.

Agent ██████: What is this fluid that it consumes? Why does it pull victims into Equolance?

SCP-XXXX-3: Calling it a fluid is kind of inaccurate. It doesn't exist in normal reality. It's like…think of being underwater while someone's firing a gun at you. No, no bad analogy…well, either way. If you have it, you're safe. If he drinks you, you're done.

Agent ██████: Does SCP-XXXX-2 have a name?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah.

Agent ██████: May I hear it?

SCP-XXXX-3: No.

Agent ██████: May I ask why?

SCP-XXXX-3: Everybody who hears its name gets taken there. I'm guessing you have microphones all over this room.

Agent ██████: You'd be correct.

SCP-XXXX-3: I'm not saying its name. I can take a lot of people with me there at once, but I can only bring one person back to reality with me at a time. It's exhausting, though.

Agent ██████: How do you bring them back?

SCP-XXXX-3: I fill them with the black waters so they can return to reality.

Agent ██████: I see. You say you can bring one of us there?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah, but you'd come naked. Only humans can be brought in.

Agent ██████: Is there a reason for that?

SCP-XXXX-3: I guess only humans have the waters. Never tried an animal. It never took any.

Agent ██████: Well, it is inevitable that we will attempt to launch an investigation in SCP-XXXX-1. Would you be willing to take a researcher with you there?

SCP-XXXX-3: Sure, but I can't promise that I can protect them. I could just show you everything with my mind.

Agent ██████: Through telepathy?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yes.

Agent ██████: SCP-XXXX-2, the submerged entity. Would you be able to show us its full body?

SCP-XXXX-3: You don't want to see what it looks like.

Agent ██████: Any particular reason?

SCP-XXXX-3: You'll end up like me.

Agent ██████: Ah. It's a cognitohazard where it mutates victims to partially mimic its functions. That's why your waste products also have anomalous properties.

SCP-XXXX-3: I don't understand half of what of you said, but I'm assuming that you're guessing that looking at it is what made my my piss, shit, tears and blood turn into beasts too.

Agent ██████: Correct.

SCP-XXXX-3: Well, sort of. Looking at it and drinking its waters did that to me.

Agent ██████: You say you drank its fluid?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah. It chose me.

Agent ██████: It chose you?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah.

Agent ██████: For what purpose?

SCP-XXXX-3: To find the Spring every time one shows up.

Agent ██████: Why did it choose you?

SCP-XXXX-3: My wife was the Spring when it chose me. It can't bring the Spring into Equolance by itself, so it always chooses someone close to the current Spring and has them drink its black waters so they can bring the Spring to it.

Agent ██████: What is the significance of the Spring and why does it need a subject to bring them to it?

SCP-XXXX-3: The Spring's waters are gold and they always have a lot more than a normal person. The Spring can keep it quenched for a while before it needs a new one.

Agent ██████: What pre-requisites must be met for the next Spring to emerge?

SCP-XXXX-3: I don't know, shitty luck?

Agent ██████: So you're unsure.

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah.

Agent ██████: How far does SCP-XXXX-2's influence spread?

SCP-XXXX-3: I'm guessing on all of Planet Earth. I'm not 100% sure myself.

Agent ██████: The entire planet?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah.

Agent ██████: But your home is in ███████.

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah. There might be more people taking care of it, I guess.

Agent ██████: Have you come into contact with any of them?

SCP-XXXX-3: Nope. I watch over the Beauteous One in ███████. Never heard of anybody or anything else.

Agent ██████: I see. You said earlier that you drank its waters?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah. What about it?

Agent ██████: Were you submerged in its pool?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah. The birds grabbed me and dropped me inside.

Agent ██████: Please describe the sensation of the waters.

SCP-XXXX-3: Warm. Like water.

Agent ██████: Did you get a good visual on the entity's features?

SCP-XXXX-3: Yeah.

Agent ██████: Are you able to describe it?

SCP-XXXX-3: It's better if you see it, but that's an awful idea. You really should stop asking to see it or know what it looks like.

Agent ██████: I am tasked to gather as much information on it as possible. Please understand. Are you able to do it through telepathy?

SCP-XXXX-3: If you really want me to. Might break you.

Agent ██████: Explain.

SCP-XXXX-3: It wanted me to drink the moment the birds dropped me. I tried defying it, but then it forced my eyes open. It broke my heart. It broke my heart more than sacrificing my wife did. It…someone needs to take care of it. It's starving and thirsty. Always starving and thirsty.

Agent ██████: Please tell me all of the details preceding the events that happen before you became its caretaker.

SCP-XXXX-3: That's gonna be a roller coaster. Sure. Where do you want me to start?

Agent ██████: Wherever you see fit.

SCP-XXXX-3: Ok. Her name was Darlene. She was very fit and very muscular for a woman. She was perfect. Before everything happened, I had a few nightmares. They were all the same; I followed a trail of gold that led me to her. She was so bright in the dreams. So beautiful. It would always be a scene where we were together somewhere and I'd see it from the third person. Then the dream would switch to the first person of whatever we were doing. I'd look over to see where I was before, and I'd see a bird. The nightmares got worse and worse over time. That's basically all there is to it.

Agent ██████: I see. Any more details you wish to add?

SCP-XXXX-3: When Springs are sacrificed, they don't die. They sit in front of the Beauteous One for eternity, always staring at the sky. Even when Spring goes dry, they don't die. I can't imagine what's going through her head…

Agent ██████: My condolences, Rowan.

SCP-XXXX-3: You don't mean it. But that's ok. It's a job. Greater good and all that.

Agent ██████: Yes. Well, one final question. Do you possibly know of any way we can neutralize SCP-XXXX-2?

SCP-XXXX-3: You tell me.

Agent ██████: I see.

SCP-XXXX-3: If you still want me to show it to you, I can, but I'm not taking you into its waters if you feel sorry for it.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: Not wanting to risk being subject to an extreme cognitohazard, Agent ██████ employed a D-class for the sole purpose of experimentation with Rowan's telepathy. D-class immediately began weeping profusely and violently demanded to be allowed to see SCP-XXXX-2 and become another one of its caretakers. D-class then began leaking black fluid and was presumably taken by SCP-XXXX-2. Field Agents were deployed and, after a thorough search, located and subsequently terminated the D-class, who was confirmed to have become a caretaker.

SCP-XXXX-6, dubbed the Cloak, is a large, translucent purple, vaguely fabric-like creature surrounded by floating shards of reflective glass. Its presence is given away by the sounds of intense snoring.

Portions of its body frequently pulse in and out of the three-dimensional plane, suggesting a higher-dimensional nature. On the 'underside' of its body, there are numerous tentacles and tendrils. It incapacitates prey by flashing hypnotic lights at them to put them to sleep. It has been shown to use the mirror shards to reflect its lights in its victims eyes when they attempt to flee.

Once the victim is unconscious, the Cloak commands the mirror shards into slicing the chest and heart open, where it will find an orb of glowing light. It will then pierce the orb with one of its tendrils before consuming it via suctioning. Foundation personnel have theorized that this creature may be formed from the submerged entity's shed skin.

SCP-XXXX-7 is a massive pond located underneath a natural clearing surrounded by foliage. It has a memetic effect where seeing it will induce a sensation of incredible burning thirst in the victim's throat. If the victim attempts to drink from it, the pond will then enter an active phase where it assumes the consistency of oobleck and becomes a dark shade of purple. Algae that was previously invisible will turn a shade of purple that is darker than the pond.

The pond's liquids will slowly 'crawl' over the victim's limbs before encasing them and pulling them inside, where the algae will tie itself around their bodies and hold them in place. It is then that SCP-XXXX-7-1 will swim over and tear the victim apart.
SCP-XXXX-7-1 is an eel-like creature that is comprised of what resembles feces. Its body is covered in human eyes and human teeth. It coils itself around the victim's limbs and tears them apart piece by piece, steadily making their way to the heart. Smaller specimens coil themselves around the heart to tear it open, allowing the glowing orb inside to 'spill' into the pond and absorb into the algae. It is unknown as to what happens to the remains of the victim.

SCP-XXXX-8, dubbed the birds, vaguely resembles a creature of avian origin; it, however, is far unlike any recorded species. The flesh of its body is visually identical to the flesh of the wings on SCP-XXXX-2, leading personnel to believe that SCP-XXXX-8 was formed from its shed feathers.

SCP-XXXX-9, dubbed the sorrow, is a large, tear-drop shaped creature comprised of a gelatinous, transparent substance. This creature is notably different from all the others in the fact that it does not seek to consume the victims of Equolance. Instead, it dedicates its time into protecting them and making sure that no harm befalls them. This act has been shown to be futile, as SCP-XXXX-9 is the weakest of the waste products and has little to no combat capability whatsoever.

SCP-XXXX-10, dubbed the mist, is a cloud of purple mist that enters victims via the lungs. From there, it enters their blood stream, using the host's blood stream as an access point to the heart, where it surrounds the orb. It is unknown what happens to the orb at that point. After this is finished, the mist leaves the victim's body behind.

Addendum:
Addendum-XXXX-1: SCP-XXXX was discovered on ██/█/20██ when the Foundation received information about missing person’s cases in ███████, ███████. Agents noticed that they all shared the identical feature of piles of clothing drenched in an unidentifiable black fluid. They were dispatched to investigate the area, only to be attacked by a singular Cult. Sightings of anomalous creatures were also noted.

Addendum-XXXX-2: During light research on Rowan Fithings' records, it was discovered that Darlene Fithings, his late wife, had the maiden name of Darlene Equolance.
