Main Idea for Copy Pasta/"Mission Statement"

This project is to help crit staff, general critiquers, and newbies with getting their ideas and critiques across in a clear and concise way without confusion or distraction.

In the next tab, you will be introduced into a world of idea/draft critique copy pasta’s, but wait! Before you go over there, read this general use guide to familiarize yourself with the how’s and whys.

Why did we make this?

---

Well, Riemann and I, (KaraKatt), realised that we were repeating a lot of the same things in our critique. It gets time consuming to say these things over and over again when there could have been an easier way to go about it. Which is why we decided to write up this copypasta “hub” for critiques.

This is meant to streamline the process of critiquing, giving the critters more time to critique more drafts. This is NOT meant to be a replacement for real critique, but something to pair with it. It is to give more information without bogging down the actual critique of the draft or idea.

It is not our intention to get rid of giving crit, copy pastas alone can not hold up as critique. If you’re here, you understand the importance of giving accurate and good crit on others work. We wanted to give critters a way to save a little more time and possibly give more help and critique to people. It is about keeping the integrity of the art while making the process easier on those willing.

All in all, this is a way to help our wonderful crit staff, hobbyists,, and even novice critters just getting into it. Never meant to be a replacement for critique or the only thing of substance in the post, but to streamline the process and save time allowing for more to get done.

+ Mary Sue

There's this term in writing called a "Mary Sue". It refers to an overpowered character, usually sharing many traits and appearances with the writer of the character. I don't like this term, in and of itself, but I think it's appropriate to bring up here.

Power fantasies like this can be fun. But they're only fun for the person writing them, the person who identifies with the powerful self insert. I can tell this is a concept near and dear to you, and that's ok. But know that that other readers aren't going to get the same thing out of this as you.

Don't continue with this. We've seen a lot of self inserts, overpowered author inserts, the like. It isn't interesting to a broad audience.

+ Thing what does a thing

So this is, right now, very much so a "thing what does a thing". The site has largely moved beyond that in favour of more shortform storytelling. That being said, there's a delightful guide written by the delightful Uncle Nikolini about this.

So - it's not enough to just present this. You need to make the reader engage with it. This is usually done with a narrative, hence the above suggestion. So - what about this interests you? Why? And how do you get that across to your reader? Keep in mind "it does the thing!" isn't enough. We need to want to know more.
