Special Containment Procedures:
All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be tranquillised and placed in a 1 kilometre3 glass transparent plastic dome aviary in site-██. Four kilograms of bird seed per instance of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be placed in the aviary each morning. All personnel displaying early symptoms are to be placed within a padded cell with all supplies needed and to be equipped with an electric bracelet designated to shock consistently from 5:30am to 6am.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a parasite measuring 10 micrometres and looks similar to a common earthworm. The organism is spread through skin contact with an egg of the organism or the organism it self, the infection rate is [REDACTED]%. Once infected, after 1 week subjects may display symptoms listed below:

  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Hallucinations of loved ones saying the idiom, "The early bird catches the worm!'
  • Random vocalisations of bird calls, observed calls include: Barn owl, common raven, kookaburra and a pigeon.

However when a subject continues to sleep after 6am anomalous effects will activate through a [REDACTED] compound from the parasite and subject will become an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Subjects first show effects through their lips being coated with keratin as well as elongation of the lips into a shape similar to the common crow beak. Subject's stomach will reject all food that is not seeds or worms. SCP-XXXX-1's vocal cords begin to shrink and transform into a syrinx however during this change SCP-XXXX-1 is unable to talk or make any noise. Once the transformation is complete SCP-XXXX-1 can vocalise through the same calls they displayed before anomalous effects. On rare occasions subjects have experienced other changes of shrinking in size and legs transforming into talons of an American Eagle.

After 2 days once transformation is complete SCP-XXXX-1 will replace every hair with a feather1. These feathers can vary in colour and shape, DNA scanning shows feathers belonging to a sun conure, a fairy bluebird, a canary and rarely a domesticated chicken2. These feathers are infested with SCP-XXXX's eggs measuring 1 micrometre which upon skin contact will warm up and hatch. Once hatched the parasite infects [REDACTED]% of the time, however after 5 minutes the eggs will die.

After full transformation SCP-XXXX-1 will become extremely aggressive towards humans, charging at them while shaking vigorously causing many feathers to fall off to potentially infect nearby humans. While all SCP-XXXX-1 have no higher brain function, they have been observed to break glass and destroy cameras before attempting containment breach.

Addendum:
Containment breach █/██/██
During an unauthorised lunch break, all security personnel in charge of containment left cameras unattended. Most SCP-XXXX-1 began to destroy every camera in their aviary while a few instances started to break the glass dome. The dome shattered after 1 minute of constant deterioration. Every SCP-XXXX-1 escaped containment and were captured by personnel on site with hazmat suits and tranquilliser guns. All instances were returned to temporary cells until a stronger plastic dome was placed. All security personnel in charge were terminated.
