SCP-XXXX in its containment cell environment
Special Containment Procedures: In the event of a containment breach, MTF Lemuria-1 ("Egyptian Historians") is to attempt to locate SCP-XXXX before it escapes from Site-19 Site-45. Foundation agents who suspect the presence of PoI-XXXX-1 are to immediately inform a higher-level employee; said higher-level employee is to notify MTF Lemuria-2 ("Good Kidnappers") who are to immediately engage PoI-XXXX-1 (if found) at his last known location.
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in an artifically-created dessert enviroment, and access to SCP-XXXX’s containment chamber is restricted to Level 3 personnel and above.
All security officers are to wear an outer layer with a thickness of at least 5cm as to not trigger SCP-XXXX’s main anomalous effect. In the event that SCP-XXXX is rediscovered, it is to be relocated back to it’s containment chamber. Surveillance of SCP-XXXX-1 is unattainable due to SCP-XXXX-1’s non-physical state.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a golden scarab discovered in the Sahara Desert by Po1-XXXX-1. The scarab has green luminescent eyes and spots trailing down its back. The scarab is approximately 4 centimetres in length and has a gold tinge on its elytron and pronotum. Field agents discovered SCP-XXXX while pursuing another unrelated anomalous object rumoured to be around the main search area. The scarab was found in the town of [REDACTED], West Egypt and was immediately seized and transported to Site-19.
In the process of retrieving SCP-XXXX, a closed-off area containing locals was discovered. After interrogation, the scarab was moved in near-proximity to the locals, when the locals entered a state of considerable emotional distress. Locals during interrogation stated that the scarab was used as a torture device for lower class workers if they disobeyed the leader (hereafter designated PoI-XXXX-1) of the town. Additional workers (hereafter designated PoI-XXXX-2) found in the secluded areas were severely mutilated, and seemingly neglected by PoI-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX’s main anomalous effect manifests upon physical contact with humans, in which SCP-XXXX proceeds to climb onto the human’s back and attach itself, sinking its claws into the host. (hereafter designated SCP-XXXX-2) After 5 seconds of attachment the host enters a comatose state, not needing sustenance. When subject enters comatose, researchers report the victim of SCP-XXXX as "rising up in the air to about 5 meters above ground". The subject starts to emit a golden glow from the eyes. The longest time period D-Class personnel have stayed attached to SCP-XXXX is 3 weeks.
Subject’s brain was showing signs of enhanced activity through the 3 week period. Hosts surviving SCP-XXXX have reported seeing a "vast light tunnel of gold and green with a sand path laid out in front of them", additionally stating the length of the tunnel to be infinite or near-infinite. Hosts have also reported seeing a silhouette of a figure 9 feet tall with golden luminescent eyes. After multiple reports of this unknown entity, SCP-XXXX was transported to Site-45 for further research and the strange figure later being designated SCP-XXXX-1. Hosts also report SCP-XXXX-1 moving closer, at which time they report that the light tunnel begins to visually distort.
After a prolonged test on D-7908, it was determined that SCP-XXXX is parasitic, and when SCP-XXXX attaches to a host, it feeds off the host’s subjects dopamine and serotonin levels, most likely the reasons why the locals in the town of [REDACTED] experienced considerable emotional distress when SCP-XXXX was in close proximity. The lack of dopamine can also cause a rise in spastic uncontrolled convulsions due to dopamine's role in motor functions in the brain.
Addendum XXXX:
SCP-XXXX has been allowed to roam around its enclosure as it does not pose a threat, as long as there is no physical contact. The scarab requires sustenance but does not require any food or liquids when attached to a host. If SCP-XXXX comes in physical contact itself with a person it will not trigger it’s main anomalous effect, only attaching if touched by a host. SCP-XXXX-1 has been linked to the signs of mental illness in all those who attach to SCP-XXXX.
If a test subject remains attached to SCP-XXXX for over 3 weeks, without interacting with SCP-999 or other SCPs capable of alleviating mental illnesses caused, the host begins to suffer from chronic PTSD, similar to the mental illnesses present in PoI-XXXX-2.
Addendum XXXX-2: Historical use of SCP-XXXX

The Egyptian pharaoh Khufu was the second pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, famous for ordering the construction of the Great Pyramids at Giza. Historical archives know little of the pharaoh other than the fact he was the first pharaoh to use slaves. The researchers at Site-45 took a look deeper into any piece of information possessed by Shane Barbok. They found the following information:
- The scarab was once held by the pharaoh "Khufu".
- Khufu used the scarab to coerce people into building the Great Pyramids of Giza.
- Khufu had changed his name from "Bebo" meaning Born on Tuesday. He had changed it to give himself the illusion of being more powerful. Khufu means "Khnum protect me".
- When ancient Egypt’s civillian population became aware of Khufu’s actions, multiple assassination attempts were made, all of which failed..
- When he died naturally of old age, all monuments, statues and tablets were expunged, only leaving ,ironically, the smallest statue ever made of him.
*The scarab was sold to a local shop and was circulated from town to town for the next 4000 years until being sold to Shane Barbok.
No further information could be retrieved as parchments/papyrus scrolls were either waterlogged or destroyed by Khufu.

Currently, the most detailed report of SCP-XXXX-1 is available thanks to input from D-7908, who stayed in the anomaly induced comatose for 3 weeks. This is a conversation with there psychiatrist after the events of the test.

Interviewer: What did you see when attached to SCP-XXXX?
D-7908: [silence]
Interviewer: Don't worry, you can tell me what happened and what you saw.
D-7908: [silence]
Interviewer: I need you to tell me what happened, the foundation needs to know. It's OK to talk.
D-7908: It was walking towards me, slowly, it looked like a smudge at first from a distance.
Interviewer: OK, good good, keep talking, it'll be over sooner than you think.
D-7908: I yelled out to it to see who it was, but it didn't answer. It just kept walking. After a while it's eyes opened blinding me for a bit. The gold glow was overwhelming.
Interviewer: So this, being has gold luminescent eyes, am I correct?
D-7908: Yes, yes, and it looked 9 feet tall with a strong muscular build.It looked like it had three horns on its head. It looked docile until..
D-7908 begins to show signs of emotional distress.
Interviewer: Until what…?
D-7908: It raised it's hand, and started to get faster. I wanted to run away from it but it was travelling to fast that it would catch up to me. I started to panic, the light tunnel began to go weird around me and i heard a loud roar coming from behind me.
Interviewer: Did the "being" catch you?
D-7908: It did catch me, and I tried to struggle out of its grip, when i found myself back in the containment cell.
Interviewer: Thank you for telling me what you saw. Is there any sensations you felt while in the comatose?
D-7908: I felt lonely, isolated. I can't really remember much of what i felt, I just felt less motivated to do something.
D-7908 starts to suffer signs of severe emotional distress
Interviewer: We can stop here if you want. I just want to make sure that you have told me everything you know.
D-7908: [starts to cry] The beings body looks oily, but is really rough. It's arms burnt my body.
Interviewer: That's all we need to know, please head to SCP-999's containment cell. SCP-999 has powers that will help you to recover from your mental illness. I’ve notified the guards at SCP-999, they should let you in. Oh and some escorts so you don’t do any sort of shenanigans.

Foreword: D-7908 had described a more detailed version of SCP-XXXX-1 before falling into complete distress. D-7908 was later escorted to SCP-999's containment cell and was given Class-C amnestics after interacting with SCP-999.
Research Log #1
0900 Hours:D-7908 ordered to enter SCP-XXXX's containment cell at 0900 hours. D-7908 has had a quick debrief on the SCP's anomalous effects and the purpose of the test. Test has been set-up to see how long subject can stay in comatose and assess physical and mental reactions victims will have to SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1.
Subject proceeds to contact SCP-XXXX and has now entered comatose and monitoring has begun concerning SCP-XXXX and D-7908’s physiology and psychology.
1000 Hours
One hour has passed since the start of the test and D-7908 has not shown any sign of physical discomfort. As D-7908's mental state has been tracked, researchers have noted a common trend concerning the brain activity of all test subjects attached to SCP-XXXX, as there is a higher level of brain activity as D-7908 is attached to the SCP. D-7908 vital signs are stable.
1500 Hours
D-7908 has now been in an anomaly-induced comatose for 6 hours from the beginning of the test. Other personnel have noted small drops of blood below D-7908’s current position. This behaviour is considered non-anomalous due to minor blood loss caused by SCP-XXXX. Enhanced brain activity has sustained through the 6 hour period. Monitoring equipment detects a minor decrease in D-7908’s dopamine and serotonin levels.
2000 Hours
11 hours have lapsed. The gashes on D-7908 have become more noticeable. This test now represents the longest test of SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effects.. Enhanced brain activity remains stable but serotonin and dopamine levels have started to decrease at a higher rate. Level 4 personnel who are proficient in psychology are now being permitted to watch subject’s vitals as of the event of D-7908's hormone levels dropping.
2400 Hours
D-7908 has now been in an anomaly induced comatose for 15 hours now. dopamine and serotonin levels have stopped decreasing and have levelled out but haven't been fully replenished. Wounds on D-7908’s back have stopped cutting open due to the size of the SCP's claws. The test subject has been shown to sporadically convulse once or twice.

Week 1
D-7908 has now been in an anomaly induced comatose for a week, updates on his vitals. D-7908’s vitals are slowly dropping. Researchers are attempting to research the cause of decreases in dopamine and serotonin levels.
A pattern has been noted, with the drop in serotonin and dopamine occuring at the same time of day. Researchers now theorize that there is a parasitic relationship between the victim, in which SCP-XXXX feeds on people’s serotonin and dopamine as sustenance. Dr. ████████ has taken note of this theory, and has scheduled research into the parasitic relationship to begin on ██/██/20██.
D-7908 has started to convulse more frequently and rapidly, and the wounds on the back of D-7908 have started to heal but continue to bleed due to the sudden convulsing of the body. The comatose has continued, seemingly with no end.
Week 2
D-7908 has now been in anomaly induced comatose for 2 weeks now. Subjects vitals continue to drop but are still sufficient to prevent subject expiration. Enhanced brain activity continues.
The wounds on D-7908’s back has almost completely healed. Dopamine and serotonin levels have severely dropped, however not severe enough to cause Parkinson's Disease,1 but still causing severe damage to D-7908's mental state.
Test subject has been noted to be convulsing more often as of lately. The head researcher responsible for the test intended to continue the test for 5 weeks but due to the degradation of D-7908's mental state, which could make him an unuseable test subject, forced him to cut the test short to four weeks.
Week 3
Test had to end earlier than anticipated due to test subject’s serotonin levels getting dangerously low. D-7908 started to convulse uncontrollably, his vitals starting to drop at a dangerously high rate. Two security officers immediately pulled D-7908 down and promptly detached SCP-XXXX. Vital signs started to normalise but hormone levels were not recovering. when D- ████ was detached he regained return to normal.
D-7908 immediately began showing severe emotional distress, attempting to distance himself from SCP-XXXX as quickly as possible. The test subject began to vomit then suddenly lost consciousness. Medical staff were immediately deployed to help prevent any further harm to D-7908. D-7908 was allowed access to SCP-999's containment room for up to 10 minutes a day while undergoing recovery therapy, involving conversing with a psychiatrist concerning D-7908’s experience.
After all details of the comatose were described and permanently recorded, and D-7908 was determined to be in a state of psychological stability, Class-C amnesics were administered to allow D-7908 to be reused as another test subject for research experiments concerning SCP-XXXX.
On December 3rd, 20██, Foundation agents dispatched to search for PoI-XXXX-1 successfully located PoI-XXXX-1 and dispatched MTF Lemuria-2 ("Good Kidnappers"). A video log is available below detailing MTF Lemuria-2’s encounter with PoI-XXXX-1. Investigations show that PoI-XXXX-1 often visits the ██████ coffee shop.

The team enters the coffee shop, concealing their weapons. All MTFs disguised as U.S Army soldiers.
Cashier: [IN ARABIC] Hello, welcome to our coffee shop! What would you like today. Oh, and you’re actually soldiers. Thank you for your service!
Unit 3, 4, and 5: [WHISPERING IN UNISON] We want lattes!! Get us some, seriously!
Unit 6: Well I don’t want anything. I’m on a caffeine-free diet, since it’s bad for me.
Unit 1: I’d like some espresso!
Unit 2: [IN ARABIC] Hello, could I have two espressos and three lattes? And also a cup of water if you suppose.
Cashier: [IN ARABIC] Ok! That’s going to be 12 bucks.
Unit 2 hands over 12 USD in Egyptian pounds and shortly returns to the table. 15 minutes pass, and Foundation civillian-disguised observers detect PoI-XXXX-1 in a car, in the next town. Observers confirm PoI-XXXX-1 as being headed for the town MTF Lemuria-2 is in. After around two minutes, the cashier announces that the MTF’s drinks are ready and Unit 1 pickes them up. They can be seen chatting and drinking coffee for an additional 25 minutes.
20 minutes pass. A car is heard pulling up and PoI-XXXX is seen exiting the car, which is a Toyota Innova, coloured white, plate number CSP 5233. The entire squad is seen at the entrance. PoI-XXXX-1 enters immediately, and is subdued. An amnestic administration team is called onsite to administer appropriate amnestics. CCTV camera footage is confiscated from the shop and replaced with doctored footage not showing the encounter with PoI-XXXX-1.
[EXTRANEOUS CHATTER BETWEEN MTF REDACTED FOR BREVITY]
Unit 1: HANDS UP! PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!

Unit 3: [radio] Command, positive precious package. Package secure. Call the truck and two extra reinforcement soldiers, mission complete. PoI doesn’t seem to have expected this, he’s unarmed, how perfect.
Unit 1: Good job, team! Let’s tie him to the chair.
15 minutes pass, spent by the MTF waiting for reinforcements to arrive. The cashier and other customers in the coffee shop are visibly shocked. The amnestic administration team and two additional soldiers leave a truck, and the MTF unties PoI-XXXX-1 and proceeds to handcuff him and hold him in the truck. The amnestic administration team is seen administering amnestics. The two reinforcement soldiers are assigned to guard PoI-XXXX-1 to prevent escape.

On ██/██/20██, PoI-XXXX-1 was interrogated by the team leader of MTF Lemuria-2 ("Good Kidnappers") to determine PoI-XXXX-1’s intentions for using SCP-XXXX. PoI-XXXX was transported to an undisclosed site for interrogation after Incident XXXX-1, in which PoI was held in containment until being dispatched to one of the research sites and given D-class status.

PoI: My name is Shane Barbok, the mayor of the town [REDACTED]. I have been mayor of that town for 10 years and I have no clue what gives the right to bring me here against my own free will.
Unit 1: Save you queries for later Shane. Where did you find the SCP?
PoI: The what? I have no clue what S..C..P is.
Unit 1: The Scarab sir, the torture device you used on the lower class locals.
PoI: Oooooohh, you mean the Golden Scarab of the Pharaohs, i found it when i was on a trip to Abu Mingar, Egypt. I wanted to bring back a souvenir, and found the powerful animal. Rumours said that it was used to command slaves back in a Ancient Egypt.
Unit 1: Then why did you use it on the towns people?
PoI: Because, I wanted to get my 10th year in a row as the mayor, which allowed me to be in the towns hall of fame. I would finally get the respect i deserved, so I used the Scarab as punishment for those who got in my way, rival candidates, locals, others who caught onto what I was doing. 6 months ago I finally got put in the hall of fame, immortalised forever. But I continued to use it for those who spoke ill about me.
Unit 1: How long have you had the SCP for?
PoI: I have had it for 9 months, until someone stole it away from it's resting place about 2 months ago, wait…THAT WAS YOU!
