R: I'm gonna start by messing around with the tone, and PM you about about any possible large changes or structural edits.
R: I'm gonna see how it flows if IPS is left until the very end (mentioned, but not explained, in containment, and then proposal/acceptance/such in an addendum).
Another issue I've noticed is the contrast between the interview and the description. In the description, SCP-XXXX is always assuming the same form (otherwise, how would it be noticed? How would we know it's always the same entity?) and the interview, where it keeps swapping between forms.
Possible solutions:
- Change the interview so that it maintains the same form the whole time?
- Change the description so that it always is the same person UNDER the cosplay, but it's the costumes that swap?
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Foundation webcrawlers are to monitor social media platforms, websites belonging to pop culture conventions and convention organizers, and any photographic media coverage of any pop culture conventions.
Operation In Plain Sight is to be carried out as necessary by Foundation personnel with required clearances.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an entity which can only be observed through photographs. SCP-XXXX displays variable physical appearances, with no set height, weight, or any distinguishing features. SCP-XXXX most commonly appears in photographs taken at pop culture conventions, where it will always be dressed in cosplay1.
As characters chosen by SCP-XXXX are nearly always thematically relevant to conventions it attends, presence of SCP-XXXX will generally not be noticed until after a convention has ended, when participants sharing pictures on social media will notice SCP-XXXX appears to exist in several places simultaneously.
Addendum XXXX-1: First Contact
After several incidents during which SCP-XXXX was noticed on social media, threatening secrecy goals, Researcher Chan suggested that Foundation personnel attend a convention to see if they could draw SCP-XXXX to the event. Researcher Chan was sent to Wizard World in Des Moines, IA on June 12, 20█, along with two other research team members and four security personnel members.
Researcher Chan and Foundation personnel were unable to make any physical contact with SCP-XXXX at the event. Later during the event, however, Researcher Chan took a picture of herself with her phone in the ladies room and, upon inspecting it, noticed SCP-XXXX in the background of the photo. Researcher Chan took several more photographs, confirming that SCP-XXXX-01 was present in the background of each one, taking different poses each time.
On a whim, Researcher Chan asked a question out loud, and then took a picture. SCP-XXXX had answered the question by holding a dry erase board with a written message in the picture. Researcher Chan used this to set up an interview with SCP-XXXX-01 the following day (See Interview-XXXX-01).
Interview-XXXX-01
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX.
Interviewer: Researcher Chan.
Foreword: The following is a transcript of the first, and to date only, interview that has been conducted with SCP-XXXX. The interview took place on June 13, 20█ in a private room at Wizard World in Des Moines, IA. Researcher Chan used a digital camera that was also capable of producing polaroid prints to gather responses from SCP-XXXX.
<Begin Log, [11:00]>
Researcher Chan is sitting alone in a room at a table.
Researcher Chan: Hello, I'm going to start the interview now. Are you ready?
Researcher Chan proceeds to take a photo of the chair across from her. When the photo develops, SCP-XXXX is shown to be sitting across from her, giving a thumbs up. SCP-XXXX is clad in armor, make up, and standard containment-amenities meant to mirror those of SCP-2273. Researcher Chan is noticeably taken aback by this.
Researcher Chan: Wha… why do you look like that? How do you know to do that?
Researcher Chan takes another picture of the chair opposite herself. When the picture develops, SCP-XXXX is holding a dry erase board, with the message, "Felt it from you. I pick things up from people like that. Things they read, watch, care about. Characters."
Researcher Chan: These are not characters, these are… well, that's complicated, and not something I'm at liberty to discuss. But just how much do you know?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX has taken on the appearance of SCP-██, with the dry erase board held in front of its face with the word, "Enough." written on it. Researcher Chan is noticeably shaken and looks away from the image quickly when she realizes what form SCP-XXXX has taken, and excuses herself from the room.
Several minutes pass, during which time Researcher Chan contacts Site Director ██████ to confirm that SCP-██ has not breached containment. Upon confirmation, Researcher Chan takes a few minutes and calms herself before returning to the room and resuming the interview.
Researcher Chan: That wasn't funny, if you were trying to make a joke. Do you even fully understand what you're doing?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX has taken on the appearance of the character ████ from ███ comics, and is shown to be flippantly shrugging. What appears to be a chimichanga is visible on a plate in front of SCP-XXXX.
Researcher Chan: I have questions for you, if you're willing to start taking this seriously.
Researcher Chan takes another picture, revealing SCP-XXXX to be holding a dry erase board with the message "Not until you're dressed appropriately." SCP-XXXX has now taken on the appearance of SCP-3889. It remains in this form for the remainder of the interview. The chimichanga has disappeared.
Researcher Chan: What do you mean?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is still holding the dry erase board, but the message has change to read "You're dressed like one of THEM. It's boring. You're boring. Go change into something more in line with the weekend, and we'll talk then."
Researcher Chan: Don't be absurd, I'm dressed fine. Now, how are you able to appear in photographs the way that you do?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is not in the chair. In it's place is a hand painted sign with the words, "Waiting on you" written upon it.
Researcher Chan sighs and sits for a few moments, before leaving the room. Approximately 27 minutes pass before Researcher Chan reenters the room, now dressed in cosplay as the character ██████ from the television show ████. Researcher Chan retakes her seat.
Researcher Chan: Is this better? Can we begin now?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is shown to be sitting with its feet up on the table, making an "okay" gesture with one hand, the other holding the dry erase board with the message, "Good choice." written on it.
Researcher Chan: Thank you. First thing first, how long have you been doing this? Appearing in photos I mean?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is shown to be shrugging again.
Researcher Chan: What do you mean you don't know? Can you elaborate on that please?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. The image shows SCP-XXXX holding the dry erase board with the message "Not sure. I don't remember things like you I suppose. Places, dates, time, they don't matter to me. Only characters stand out."
Researcher Chan: I see. Why have we not seen any evidence of you in other places? Surely you can appear in any photo you wish, why do you only seem to come to conventions?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is shown holding the dry erase board with a message, but in the bottom right corner, "1/3" is written in a different color than the rest of the message. Researcher Chan takes two more pictures, each one showing a different part of a three part message. Combined, the messages read, "Real people are boring. Take themselves too seriously. And they all look so much alike. No variety, no depth. Not like here. You can be anybody. Anything. And nobody judges you. Nobody looks at you twice or like you don't belong. And the characters are SO much more interesting than regular people."
Researcher Chan: I see. Is that the reason why you don't appear in the stage photo ops? You think them boring?
Researcher Chan takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is shown to be holding the dry erase board, with the message, "Yes. Besides, it's rude to intrude upon those moments. People meeting their heroes and all that. It's not my moment to steal."
Researcher Chan: Well, then why do you appear in photos in the first pla-
The door to the room opens, and Assistant Researcher █████ Reed, who had been accompanying Researcher Chan, enters.
Researcher Chan: What's the meaning of this? I'm conducting the interv-
Assistant Researcher Reed: You need to see this.
Assistant Researcher Reed shows Researcher Chan an image on his phone. This image is later shown to have been an instance of SCP-XXXX on the convention floor, having taken on the appearance of SCP-3199, holding a sign with the coordinates for Site-█ and the words, "Release us."
Researcher Chan: Why are you doing this? Don't you realize that if some of the things we have locked up are brought to the attention of the wrong people that innocent people could get hurt? Or worse? Far, far worse things could happen! Do you even care?
Researcher Chan calms down and takes another picture. SCP-XXXX is standing across the table, holding the dry erase board with the message, "Cosplay is for everyone, and you have such great characters hidden away. If you won't share them with the world, I will".
Researcher Chan: You can't do that! Please, you have to understand! What can I do to make you understand?
Researcher Chan takes another photo, but SCP-XXXX is not across the table. Researcher Chan takes several more photos of the room, but SCP-XXXX does not appear in any of them. Researcher Chan collects the materials from the table and leaves the room with Assistant Researcher Reed.
<End Log, [12:14]>
Closing Statement: After the interview, all instances of SCP-XXXX at the Wizard World event ended. It was determined in the days that followed that shortly after the interview had ended, SCP-XXXX instances had appeared at three other conventions simultaneously over the remainder of the weekend. This was the first documented case of SCP-XXXX appearing in multiple locations at once. Operation In Plain Sight was proposed and enacted shortly after this interview took place.
