Large facility containing one instance of SCP-XXXX - all staff are extremely assertive that the instance of SCP-XXXX must be contained.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a commonplace object of unknown name, function, or origin. Properties of SCP-XXXX are extremely difficult to assess due to a combination of memetic and counterconceptual infohazards, best summarised by the following three attributes:

  1. Implantation of the knowledge that all properties of SCP-XXXX are common knowledge among the rest of the populace
  2. Implantation of the knowledge that ignorance of SCP-XXXX's properties is highly embarrassing and should not be admitted to under any circumstances
  3. Removal or alteration of memories contrary to the prior two facts

Communication about SCP-XXXX is therefore extremely difficult without a combination of targeted amnestics (to remove implanted facts) and mnestics (to counteract the ongoing memory alteration). Currently, no genuine source of information surrounding SCP-XXXX's function or origin has been located.

Instances of SCP-XXXX are distributed approximately correlating with population density. Localised clustering has been observed in banks, educational institutions, and libraries, the latter of which will always possess at least one instance on or around the premises. Although crematoria and non-grave memorials display similar clustering, no SCP-XXXX instance has ever been located within 5 metres of a marked human burial site. It is currently estimated that between 900 million and 1.2 billion instances of SCP-XXXX exist worldwide.
