Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: A 2km area surrounding SCP-XXXX's archeological site and Provisional Site-1200 has been designated as a nuclear test site. Overhead air traffic is not permitted, and guards are authorized to shoot down drones within the perimeter. Civilians entering the area are to be intercepted and administered Class A-B amnestics before being released at the nearest population center. Foundation archeologists are to continue excavating the anomaly.

All extracted artifacts and fossils relating to SCP-XXXX are to be recorded and stored in Site-11's Intensive Care Object Storage. If not already trained in archeology, paleontology or geology, personnel assigned to Provisional Site-1200 must complete a two-week course on proper handling of prehistoric items and a one-week course on geology.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the group designation for the archaeological remains of the town of Temperance, Nevada and its citizens, which have been dated to the late Cretaceous period. The conditions under which Temperance disappeared are currently unknown.

At the time of disappearance, the calculated population consisted of about 70 civilians, 20 horses and other livestock, and an unknown amount of travelers. The town's few buildings included a saloon, sheriff's office, trading post, general store, and various domestic buildings along its main street.

The town is believed to have manifested in its relative geographic location 66 million years ago. It is currently believed that most of the subjects transported were neutralized by the dramatic increase in oxygen, with the remainder eventually succumbing to other factors.

SCP-XXXX was discovered in 1862 by gold miners searching for ore veins stemming from the nearby Everwood Mine. Foundation field operatives were dispatched to the dig site to evaluate the reports of human remains being found deep underground in newly created tunnels. Though originally believed to be Neanderthal remains, the anatomy of the recovered skulls were identical to that of a modern human. Suspicions of anomalous events were confirmed following the discovery of a revolver within a Appalachiosaurus' digestive cavity. Level II Hypnosuggestive agents1 were administered to all involved civilians and the Foundation purchased ownership of Everwood Mine.

Provisional Site-1200 was established near SCP-XXXX, and the area of discovery was excavated. Fossils and remains found within SCP-XXXX have been noted to be preserved at a higher degree when compared to other archeological finds. Whole skeletons in nearly pristine conditions have been found with little signs of damage, and items such as the aforementioned revolver have also been found in similar condition.

Archeological work on SCP-XXXX is ongoing, as is research into the reasons of the town's manifestation in the past.

Addendum 1: Recovered Journals
On ██/██/2008, a second lockbox found to be in good condition was recovered from SCP-XXXX. A journal was found within the recovered lockbox, labeled as belonging to one 'Jeremiah Tweed'; believed to be a Sheriff's deputy in Temperance at its time of disappearance.
