SCP-XXXX-1 (Image taken during recovery)

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 are to be located inside a standard containment locker in Site-28. SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained in a specially designed plastic sleeve which also has a zipper compartment attached to the front for SCP-XXXX-2 to be placed inside in order to prevent accidentally triggering the objects anomalous effects (SCP-XXXX-2 is to be placed within the compartment prior to SCP-XXXX-1), as well as being placed inside a carbon storage tube when not being used for testing.

Any agents attempting to enter SCP-XXXX-A must be equipped with the following items: A fully charged body camera, at least 3 days of rations, and a fully loaded handgun with extra ammo clip. If an agent does not exit SCP-XXXX-A within 3 days, they are considered lost.

Description: SCP-XXXX consists of two components: SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a photo-negative painting on an 18x24 lightweight sheet of paper. The painting depicts an inverted bovine skull perched on what is presumed to be a human neck bone based on the silhouette. Microscopic analysis of the black powder that makes up the image has been identified as a mixture of standard art industry charcoal and an unknown powder material that through testing, has shown signs of thaumaturgical properties. When an individual makes physical contact with SCP-XXXX-1, they will be transported to a separate reality, which has been designated as SCP-XXXX-A. The effect does not appear to be limited to humans, as any matter (organic or inorganic) making contact with the painting will be transported into SCP-XXXX-A (with the exception of SCP-XXXX-2). Testing has shown that transport into SCP-XXXX-A only occurs when touching the front of SCP-XXXX-1, as touching the blank back of the painting does not trigger its anomalous properties.

SCP-XXXX-2 is a pair of periwinkle latex gloves that was found alongside SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-2 appears to nullify or counteract the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX-1, as any individual that comes in contact with SCP-XXXX-1 while wearing the gloves do not get transported to SCP-XXXX-A. This also applies to inanimate objects making physical contact with SCP-XXXX-1 while being held by SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-2 is believed to be part of a set of anomalous tools and supplies that has yet to be located (See Document POI-229-XXXX-28).

SCP-XXXX was initially recovered from █████ ██████ Community College in ███████, Pennsylvania after a number of students went missing from the campus, including a student hypothesized to be responsible for the creation of SCP-XXXX (See Addendum 3). The foundation became aware of the incident when reports came in of a teacher who worked at the college’s art campus was suspended from their job due to suspected dimentia after ranting about a magic painting.

Charcoal-Wasteland-Image-(New).jpg

Image of SCP-XXXX-A Taken by MTF (See Addendum 1)

SCP-XXXX-A resembles a large desert wasteland of unknown size. The sand in this desert is composed of graphite, charcoal, and a currently unknown substance resembling ground paper dust that is currently under analysis. The sky in SCP-XXXX-A appears similar to a paper with dense random strokes of pencil across it. Despite the massive quantities of charcoal and graphite in the environment, the air appears breathable and individuals do not show any signs of health hazards (See Addendum 1, Exploration Log-XXXX-1).

Inside of SCP-XXXX-A, there are various constructs placed randomly throughout the desert, designated as SCP-XXXX-A1. These constructs seem to be various forms of artwork, made apparent by their initial designs as well as each instance including a brass plaque with engraved writing similar to those found in art museums. A number of these artwork resemble objects and entities currently contained by the foundation or that the foundation has knowledge of. These artworks also possess anomalous properties ranging from visual, auditory, olfactory, physical and mental affects on those who interact with them through various means. Under some circumstances, the causes of which have not been precisely determined, these artworks may animate and become hostile towards any living entities nearby.

Humanoid entities resembling artist mannequins are also found throughout SCP-XXXX-A. These entities, designated as SCP-XXXX-A2, are of varying levels of degradation and modification, with many of them featuring carved faces and clothing. These entities are animate, and are often seen creating instances of SCP-XXXX-A1, although whether these entities are sapient remains unclear. While generally docile, SCP-XXXX-A2 have acted aggressively. It's believed they tend to act aggressively towards those who perceive the artwork inside SCP-XXXX as low quality, or have a low opinion of art in general, it is speculated this might also apply for SCP-XXXX-A1 instances becoming animate.

When an human expires inside of SCP-XXXX, It is believed that they are turned into a new instance of SCP-XXXX-A2. This is supported by the fact that SCP-XXXX-A2 instances resemble both agents who went missing inside of SCP-XXXX-A and some of the missing students from █████ ██████ Community College

To exit SCP-XXXX-A, an entity must touch another piece of artwork inside SCP-XXXX-A designated as SCP-XXXX-B. This piece of artwork is consistently a canvas drawing of a woman on an easel. The location of this drawing seems to change between explorations of SCP-XXXX-A, it is unknown whether this is due to SCP-XXXX-B being mobile or due to instances of SCP-XXXX-A1.

SCP-XXXX is believed to have been created by Joseph Campbell, designated POI-229-XXXX-28, a art student who went missing alongside other students at █████ ██████ Community College. Further details regarding the creation of SCP-XXXX can be found in Addendum 3.

Addendum 2: Instances of SCP-XXXX-01

While many instances of SCP-XXXX-01 have so far been found within SCP-XXXX-A, the exact number of instances is currently unknown due to SCP-XXXX-A not being fully charted as well as the possibility of having no limit.
