Item #: SCP-4390

Object Class: Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: At all times Foundation Task Force "Faro Caro" will monitor global news reports and screen for reports of suicide that had been followed by a decline in social behaviors, a decline in mental health and displaying of obsessive tendencies regarding fictional characters or entities. When a report has been verified to be linked to SCP-4390 the corpse of the deceased will be brought into Foundation custody with the body of a D-Class subject of similar body proportions being used as a replacement.

In the event that the deceased happened to be an individual of great public influence than a cover story regarding their expiration will be fed to the media, citing drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and or depression as the cause of the individuals suicide. Any persons who witnessed the deaths of the victims of SCP-4390 are to be given a class A amnestic, debriefed, and released.

In the event that a member of the Foundation is afflicted by SCP-4390 they are to report to Site Director Dr. Colress at Site-██ where they will be debriefed on the nature of SCP-4390 and depending on the form SCP-4390 has taken, appropriate measures for the individual to take to minimize injury or casualties will be relayed. From then on they will be closely monitored by Faro Caro team members until their expiration.

Update 4390-1: As of ██/██/████ and the implementation of Project 4390-TOKCT, any Foundation personnel affected by SCP-4390 are to follow project protocol under the direction of Site Director Dr. Colress.

Update 4390-2: As of Incident 4390-Omega SCP-4390 has been reclassified as a Thaumiel level entity from its original designation as a Keter level entity. Although Special Containment Procedures remain the same.

Description: SCP-4390 is undetectable to the naked eye as well as all forms of recording or tracking technologies to all except SCP-4390-A. Currently the only known means of understanding the properties of SCP-4390 is through the testimony of the few Foundation personnel that have been affected by SCP-4390. See SCP-4390-A Documentation for further details.

SCP-4390 is a shape-shifting entity of variable height, weight, age, sex and other features and of unknown intelligence, unknown origins, and unknown motives. SCP-4390 targets individuals who have an unusually strong attachment to fictional characters, whom they might refer to as a "TV Crush" or "All time favorite character", regardless of medium, even if there is no known image of the character it manifests as. While the method of selection for SCP-4390 is unknown it seems to prefer targeting male individuals in the 16-35 age range although female victims of the same age range are known to exist.

SCP-4390 will approach an individual in a similar manner that the fictional character it is mimicking would do with examples including bumping into them in the street, crashing into them with a bike or small motorized vehicle, or appearing next to the individual while sleeping. Based on the available testimony it is understood that SCP-4390 will initially appear to be a non-anomalous human being who simply has an uncanny resemblance to the character it portrays, or if the character is a non humanoid entity, than SCP-4390 will claim to be interested in cosplay. Once contact has been established the affected individual will be referred to as SCP-4390-A.

From this point forward SCP-4390-A will be for all intents and purposes unkillable as SCP-4390 will prevent SCP-4390-A from being harmed either threw directly interfering with efforts to terminate SCP-4390-A, which always results in the death of anyone deemed a threat to SCP-4390-A, or threw a secondary anomalous affect that prevents SCP-4390-A from succumbing to all manner of illness, disease, poisons and other similar causes of deaths.

For a period of 4-8 weeks SCP-4390 and SCP-4390-A will spend excessive amounts of time together, with the subject even bringing SCP-4390 to their place of employment and place of residence. After this initial period, the person that SCP-4390-A holds most dear, a parent, friend, spouse, or sibling will perish in a tragic accident that directly or indirectly has some relation to the fictional character the subject is affected by, though the actual cause of death to said individuals, henceforth known as SCP-4390-B, seemingly have no pattern outside of factors relating to the location and culture that SCP-4390-B lives in. After the death of SCP-4390-B, SCP-4390-A's mental health will begin to deteriorate and will display knowledge of SCP-4390-B's death even if not directly told, and will exhibit anti-social behaviors, reluctance in going outside, sleeping and mood disorders, and a lack of social awareness.

SCP-4390-A will begin openly conversing with SCP-4390 and begin openly expressing their adoration for SCP-4390 and express a desire to do anything SCP-4390 would ask of them. Testimony from Foundation personnel who have been affected by SCP-4390 suggest that by this stage SCP-4390 is physically indistinguishable from the character it is impersonating regardless of species, size, personality or graphical design. Additionally it would seem that at this stage SCP-4390 is capable of exhibiting any and all powers and abilities of the characters it mimics. It is currently unknown if SCP-4390 has any sort of power ceiling.

The final period of SCP-4390-A's life lasts exactly 3 months, with the subjects mental state deteriorating to dangerously unstable levels (though the extent of this seems to be influenced by the personality that SCP-4390 is exhibiting at the time) and SCP-4390-A begins offering wealth, positions of power, weapons, offers of servitude, acts of violence, and information in order to please SCP-4390 and convince it to stay with it. However regardless of SCP-4390-A's best attempts, when the 3 month period is up SCP-4390-A is usually penniless and is either killed by SCP-4390 in a way that appears to be consistent with that of a suicide or murder suicide or SCP-4390-A will commit suicide on its own, always leaving behind a suicide note claiming heartbreak as the cause of its suicide.

"I am going to be frank with everyone here. The fact that an XK class end of the world scenario has not happened despite the 334 known cases of SCP-4390 is a blessing considering the power that this SCP could potentially posses. All it would take is for it to possess some poor bastard with the wrong fetish to cause the end of us all. While I acknowledge containment is impossible I suggest implementing "Project 4390-TOKCT" immediately. Might as well get some use out of this thing … I do not get paid enough for this." - Faro Caro Head and Site Director Dr. Colress
