Item #: SCP-4390
Object Class: Thaumiel
Special Containment Procedures: At all times Foundation Task Force "Faro Caro" will monitor global news reports and screen for reports of suicide that had been followed by a decline in social behaviors, a decline in mental health and displaying of obsessive tendencies regarding fictional characters or entities. When a report has been verified to be linked to SCP-4390 the corpse of the deceased will be brought into Foundation custody with the body of a D-Class subject of similar body proportions being used as a replacement.
In the event that the deceased happened to be an individual of great public influence than a cover story regarding their expiration will be fed to the media, citing drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and or depression as the cause of the individuals suicide. Any persons who witnessed the deaths of the victims of SCP-4390 are to be given a class A amnestic, debriefed, and released.
In the event that a member of the Foundation is afflicted by SCP-4390 they are to report to Site Director Dr. Colress at Site-██ where they will be debriefed on the nature of SCP-4390 and depending on the form SCP-4390 has taken, appropriate measures for the individual to take to minimize injury or casualties will be relayed. From then on they will be closely monitored by Faro Caro team members until their expiration.
Update 4390-1: As of ██/██/████ and the implementation of Project 4390-TOKCT, any Foundation personnel affected by SCP-4390 are to follow project protocol under the direction of Site Director Dr. Colress.
Update 4390-2: As of Incident 4390-Omega SCP-4390 has been reclassified as a Thaumiel level entity from its original designation as a Keter level entity. Although Special Containment Procedures remain the same.
Description: SCP-4390 is undetectable to the naked eye as well as all forms of recording or tracking technologies to all except SCP-4390-A. Currently the only known means of understanding the properties of SCP-4390 is through the testimony of the few Foundation personnel that have been affected by SCP-4390. See SCP-4390-A Documentation for further details.
SCP-4390 is a shape-shifting entity of variable height, weight, age, sex and other features and of unknown intelligence, unknown origins, and unknown motives. SCP-4390 targets individuals who have an unusually strong attachment to fictional characters, whom they might refer to as a "TV Crush" or "All time favorite character", regardless of medium, even if there is no known image of the character it manifests as. While the method of selection for SCP-4390 is unknown it seems to prefer targeting male individuals in the 16-35 age range although female victims of the same age range are known to exist.
SCP-4390 will approach an individual in a similar manner that the fictional character it is mimicking would do with examples including bumping into them in the street, crashing into them with a bike or small motorized vehicle, or appearing next to the individual while sleeping. Based on the available testimony it is understood that SCP-4390 will initially appear to be a non-anomalous human being who simply has an uncanny resemblance to the character it portrays, or if the character is a non humanoid entity, than SCP-4390 will claim to be interested in cosplay. Once contact has been established the affected individual will be referred to as SCP-4390-A.
From this point forward SCP-4390-A will be for all intents and purposes unkillable as SCP-4390 will prevent SCP-4390-A from being harmed either threw directly interfering with efforts to terminate SCP-4390-A, which always results in the death of anyone deemed a threat to SCP-4390-A, or threw a secondary anomalous affect that prevents SCP-4390-A from succumbing to all manner of illness, disease, poisons and other similar causes of deaths.
For a period of 4-8 weeks SCP-4390 and SCP-4390-A will spend excessive amounts of time together, with the subject even bringing SCP-4390 to their place of employment and place of residence. After this initial period, the person that SCP-4390-A holds most dear, a parent, friend, spouse, or sibling will perish in a tragic accident that directly or indirectly has some relation to the fictional character the subject is affected by, though the actual cause of death to said individuals, henceforth known as SCP-4390-B, seemingly have no pattern outside of factors relating to the location and culture that SCP-4390-B lives in. After the death of SCP-4390-B, SCP-4390-A's mental health will begin to deteriorate and will display knowledge of SCP-4390-B's death even if not directly told, and will exhibit anti-social behaviors, reluctance in going outside, sleeping and mood disorders, and a lack of social awareness.
SCP-4390-A will begin openly conversing with SCP-4390 and begin openly expressing their adoration for SCP-4390 and express a desire to do anything SCP-4390 would ask of them. Testimony from Foundation personnel who have been affected by SCP-4390 suggest that by this stage SCP-4390 is physically indistinguishable from the character it is impersonating regardless of species, size, personality or graphical design. Additionally it would seem that at this stage SCP-4390 is capable of exhibiting any and all powers and abilities of the characters it mimics. It is currently unknown if SCP-4390 has any sort of power ceiling.
The final period of SCP-4390-A's life lasts exactly 3 months, with the subjects mental state deteriorating to dangerously unstable levels (though the extent of this seems to be influenced by the personality that SCP-4390 is exhibiting at the time) and SCP-4390-A begins offering wealth, positions of power, weapons, offers of servitude, acts of violence, and information in order to please SCP-4390 and convince it to stay with it. However regardless of SCP-4390-A's best attempts, when the 3 month period is up SCP-4390-A is usually penniless and is either killed by SCP-4390 in a way that appears to be consistent with that of a suicide or murder suicide or SCP-4390-A will commit suicide on its own, always leaving behind a suicide note claiming heartbreak as the cause of its suicide.
"I am going to be frank with everyone here. The fact that an XK class end of the world scenario has not happened despite the 334 known cases of SCP-4390 is a blessing considering the power that this SCP could potentially posses. All it would take is for it to possess some poor bastard with the wrong fetish to cause the end of us all. While I acknowledge containment is impossible I suggest implementing "Project 4390-TOKCT" immediately. Might as well get some use out of this thing … I do not get paid enough for this." - Faro Caro Head and Site Director Dr. Colress
Summary: Project 4390-TOKCT, implemented on ██/██/████ are a series of protocols designed to enable the study and testing of SCP-4390's anomalous properties while minimizing casualties to on-site personnel and in the case of D-Class personnel becoming SCP-4390-A then experimentation into if SCP-4390 can be terminated or terminate SCP's listed for termination shall commence until SCP-4390-A expires. (See termination logs).
In the event SCP-4390-A is a non D-Class Foundation staff member, their families or next of kin are to be notified of the individuals death and a cover story shall be provided. The body of a D-Class, terminated in a way that is consistent with the manner of death listed, shall be given to the family. While not consistent, this has been shown to decrease the chance of an SCP-4390-B instance and subsequent world event from triggering by 13%, likely because the loved ones of SCP-4390-A think of SCP-4390-A in the past tense and not the present tenses as they believe it to already be deceased. SCP-4390-A will be paired with SCP-999 to reduce SCP-4390-A's mental deterioration. After 8 weeks has passed or if SCP-4390-B manifests and dies than SCP-4390-A shall voluntarily enter a humanoid containment cell with a bed, desk, and bookshelf provided inside.
Every three days SCP-4390-A is to write or record documentation regarding the behavior of SCP-4390. On that day SCP-4390-A will be asked to move to a different room under the presumption that SCP-4390 follows SCP-4390-A so that an armed guard might collect the method of documentation. This cycle is to continue until SCP-4390-A's mental state has deteriorated to an unmanageable level or if SCP-4390 decides to intervene and prevent documentation written by SCP-4390-A from falling into Foundation custody.
These procedures is done so as to minimize the possibility that SCP-4390 interprets the Foundation as an active threat to SCP-4390-A which in turn minimizes the number of Foundation casualties.

"It would seem Dr.███████ was a 'Man of Culture', as they say, and SCP-4390 imitated the likeness of one … ah, I might butcher this, Motoko Kusanagi? Anyway apparently she is pretty well known for her hacking abilities. Seeing as all records of documentation made by the SCP-4390-A's that have manifested in Foundation custody are lost I am sure we all know what happened. Don't worry, I have my best men of the case." - Site Director Dr. Colress.
Test A - Date: ██/██/████
Subject(s): D-55578 (as SCP-4390-A), SCP-4390 (as "Ciri") from ███████ ███████, and SCP-682.
Procedure: SCP-4390-A an led into an area approximately 300 square acres located 150km away from Site-██. SCP-4390 was identified as the fictional character known as "Ciri", whom Site Director Dr. Colress assumed would be weak enough to be terminated.

"Ok so I am not a video game person myself but I can say this much, it would seem that SCP-4390 also recognizes 'mechanics' as an inherent ability of the character it imitates. In this case it seemed to have a set amount of … "damage" for lack of a better word, however when SCP-682 reached what you might call 0 health, while it did cease to move, SCP-4390 still saw the skeleton of SCP-682 as a threat. In that situation is was impossible for Foundation Faro Caro agents to recontain SCP-682, 4390 and 4390-A and instead SCP-4390 forced SCP-4390-A to stay close to SCP-682 until SCP-4390-A expired, which took exactly 3 months. SCP-682 was temporarily classified as "Unknown" with motions to reclassify as "Neutralized" being made. However such motions were denied when SCP-4390 disappeared with the death of SCP-4390-A and SCP-682 began regrowing its body mass… . Overall we got close though." - Site Director Dr. Colress
Note: It is hypothesized that SCP-682 realized that it was completely unable to harm SCP-4390 and decided to "play dead" in such a way that prevented SCP-4390 from technically recognizing it as a capable threat. As this was the first successful termination attempt to remove all of SCP-682's body mass, save its skeleton, it has been approved by the O5 Council for continued termination attempts to be made on SCP-682 and other SCP's listed for terminations using SCP-4390. Motion to reclassify SCP-4390 under "Thaumiel" classification pending.

**Summary: SCP-4390-A identified to be ███████ ███████, the 12 year old son of the mayor of Kampot, Cambodia. SCP-4390 was theorized to be taking the form of a fictitious deity known as "Boethiah", though given this character appears in a variety of different entries in the same series it is unknown which version SCP-4390 was imitating.
According to on file records from Armed Mobile Task Force Tau-4 ("All Things Bright and Dutiful"), SCP-4390 presumably came into contact with SCP-1788-1. While there is no visual conformation of this, seeing as all Foundation agents stationed at Kampot died before they could file a proper report, the specifics that led up the incident is considered non important.
SCP-4390 considered SCP-1788-1 as a threat to the safety of SCP-4390-A and not only did SCP-4390 terminate the instance of SCP-1788-1 (and all SCP's in the area of affect) but the power of its attack destroyed the entire city of Kampot and its population of 50,000 as well as a further 30,000 people as the shock-wave of the attack reached all the way to Nataya Beach (a distance of 16.1km). SCP-4390-A survived.
The Foundation was forced to blame the destruction on terrorists and in order to appease the civilian population, the international media, and the Cambodian head of state, the Foundation was forced to arm and appropriately dress a 6th of its supply of D-Class personnel in clothing one would find consistent with that of a terrorist cell. The Foundation allowed the Cambodian Government along with its international allies to terminate these D-Class in what was publicly called a "stand against the terrorist threat".
When SCP-4390-A expired 4 months later, his body was incinerated.
"As much as I and the rest of the council appreciate the work of Dr. Colress, SCP-4390 costed us 80,000 civilian casualties as well as severe structural damage and costed the Foundation a shit ton of money to cover this mess up, in exchange for the eradication of at least 32 other anomalous entities. While SCP-4390 is more than capable of terminating other Keter level SCP's, we are not about to sacrifice upwards of a million people to terminate these threats.
While Project 4390-TOKCT has been authorized to continue as a protocol, and while SCP-4390 likely terminates dozens of SCP's such as SCP-1788-1 and SCP-2191 instances, and terminates individuals with malicious intent toward SCP-4390-A, it can not be ignored that SCP-4390 posses an unacceptable risk to the planet and reality as a whole.
Work into finding methods of containing SCP-4390 is being funded and I trust Dr. Colress to get me results by this time next year. For now, however, the motion to classify SCP-4390 under a 'Thaumiel' classification has been granted. Only because SCP-4390 has the highest rate of terminations than anything we have on record." - O5-█
