SCP-4565 as retrieved from its original computer
Image titled "steve.png" extracted from SCP-4565
Item #: SCP-4565
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-4565 is to be kept in a small lock box at all times. When testing SCP-4565 ensure the used device contains no other storage devices. A device connected to SCP-4565 must not be plugged into a phone line or network, and must be powered by a battery instead of a wall outlet. No external devices will be connected to a device containing SCP-4565. Traces of SCP-4565-2 found on any devices other than SCP-4565 must be terminated.
Description: SCP-4565 is a 1TB Hard Drive, it was found among the remains of a burned down residence located in ██████. The item was used within a custom built computer stored inside the building, all other parts were rendered completely destroyed, contrasting the unscathed Hard Drive. Various other tests have taken place to analyse the strength of the item, and so far it has been deemed indestructible.
Early analysis of the item when installed into one of the foundations computers revealed a single folder contained on the Hard Drive titled "SteveBills". The file appears to contain a program which uploads itself to any storage devices or domains connected to the Hard Drive and infest them with various corrupted files and applications before taking full control of the device/server. Every attempt to remove SteveBills from SCP-4565 results in an anomalous event in which all other components of the computer exceed a temperature manageable by any cooling system, rendering all components of the computer unusable except SCP-4565, this file has been classified as SCP-4565-2. This event has commonly caused combustion of the computer, but it is unknown if this caused the destruction of the residence where SCP-4565 was originally found. The creator of this program is currently unknown.
On one rare occasion, researchers at Site 21 were capable of extracting one file from SCP-4565 without causing complete meltdown of the system. This file was an image titled “steve.png” which resembles a pixelated image of what appears to be a middle aged man, with a bald head and a goatee. The source of this image and the person in it is currently unknown, but it can be rumoured they are named “Steve Bills” in correlation with the name of the program and image. It is a possibility the creator of this program intended for this image to be found.
Further research will proceed to uncover more information about SCP-4565 and SCP-4565-2.
