Item #: SCP-WALK
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-WALK is to be contained in a glass box with a cushioned interior contained in a soundproof room and put on a small wooden table right side up to give SCP-WALK-1 space to ‘move.’ Handling of SCP-WALK should only ever be done by Security Clearance Level 2 Personnel. Anyone that attempts to tamper with the container or with SCP-WALK is eligible to be terminated if they do not have permission or authority to do so.
SCP-WALK should never be left alone in the containment room, and should be accompanied by no more than one human (usually Class-D personnel) at all times. Class-D personnel are instructed to converse with SCP-WALK-1 as long as they are in the containment room.
While speaking to SCP-WALK is fine, speaking into SCP-WALK (as if to send out a transmission) is extremely ill-advised, for it will agitate SCP-WALK-1 and forcefully cause the subject to scream for as long as 3 minutes & 30 seconds straight, either dying of suffocation and/or rupturing vocal cords. Personnel who survive the trauma afterwards are to be put in psychiatric evaluation and speech therapy indefinitely.
Description: SCP-WALK is a functioning ██████ ███ █-█-█ brand walkie talkie of unknown origin. A second counterpart doesn’t exist is not found yet. It operates outside of the frequency range of walkie talkies so it is unable to interact with them. Interestingly enough, further tests have confirmed that SCP-WALK cannot interact with other devices with similar frequencies, but somehow SCP-WALK-1 is able to send those frequencies to communicate with us. The origin of these radio waves are unknown.
SCP-WALK-1 will make it clear that it does not want to be alone. If left by itself, SCP-WALK will be in a state where it will release a high pitched and deafening sound. Any speakers in a 20m radius will also emit the same sound. Exposure to this sound without covering one's ears has been known to cause [REDACTED]. Calming down SCP-WALK-1 after this state is tedious, but saying the right things in the right order to it will usually work and calm it down.
SCP-WALK-1 shows sapient qualities and can speak English but converses in a programmed and almost predetermined fashion, having a very limited amount of sentences (See Addendum WALK-A for more info). It will not respond to certain words and sentences, and seems like it will only continue the conversation with an answer that it accepts. Any change in SCP-WALK-1’s behavior when being conversed with should be questioned and be put on high priority.
Bringing up specific topics (most of them personal or relating to itself) can cause SCP-WALK-1 to become distressed. Saying these things to SCP-WALK-1 is not allowed. SCP-WALK-1’s audible reactions will vary from:
- Heavily sobbing for 10-15 minutes. SCP-WALK-1 will not respond to anything, even with the presence of multiple people in the room, until it is done crying.
- Hyperventilating. It can still talk during this period, but tests have confirmed SCP-WALK-1 is able to run out of breath and will lose “consciousness” in 3 minutes. Always attempt to calm down SCP-WALK-1 in this state or else contact may be lost for up to ██ days.
- Entering a tantrum-like state. It will not comply with any commands when in this state. How long this lasts varies on the person that it’s talking to. Class-D personnel typically get shorter times and usual behavior, while Foundation Researchers will usually [DATA EXPUNGED].
- Signal will cut out. Leaving SCP-WALK alone in this state will cause it to release a louder high pitched sound than before. It is able to move objects due to the vibrations of the frequency. The radius affecting other speakers increases to 50m. Constant exposure to the sound without covering ears also causes [REDACTED] but is more intense and effects start in seconds. So far, ██ Foundation personnel have died due to this particular event. Calming SCP-WALK-1 down after this state takes days. Do NOT have anyone leave the containment room if SCP-WALK is in this state until the signal is back. Signals may not come back for weeks. Requests from personnel to come out of the containment room during this state are to be denied until signal is back.
Containment teams are now looking for a second walkie talkie (which will be dubbed SCP-WALK-2 if it is found) similar to SCP-WALK due to a recent conversation on 5/██/20██. The audio log is not shown in this document, but is important as SCP-WALK’s origins are unknown.
