'Jaws of Malice'

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous pair of hydraulic rescue shears, colloquially referred to as ‘jaws of life.’ The primary memetic properties of SCP-XXXX appear to only effect those within a vehicle. When the shears are applied to any part of the vehicle one is an occupant of, said occupant will perceive a rusted parody of SCP-XXXX crushing the limb they are most partial to and or other varieties of mutilation. This perceived entity will from here-on be referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. If SCP-XXXX’s jaws are applied to a vehicle successively, then the occupant will perceive further mutilation with yet-to-be-determined limitations. Regardless what is seen by SCP-XXXX's victim(s), no amount of physical harm induced by SCP-XXXX-1 has been physically detectable. Anyone who is to handle SCP-XXXX, aside from D-class personnel in testing conditions, is to be informed of SCP-XXXX's secondary memetic effects upon the user.

Foundation personnel discovered the anomalous object after investigating a lawsuit in which an elderly blind man had accused the local fire department, of ██████ County, of cutting his “poking arm” off in the process of rescuing him from a motor-vehicle accident. It appears Mr. ████’s contact with SCP-XXXX-1 induced conversion disorder, making his arm superficially non-functional, as it may have in ██ other suspected cases of interaction prior to containment. Most recovered after the application of Class-A amnestics, while Class-D amnestics are usually necessary for those exposed to multiple or particularly intense episodes of interaction with SCP-XXXX-1. Although Mr. ████ appeared to suffer from dementia, an initial investigation was undertaken by Field Personnel. A pattern of domestic abuse was discovered among local veterans of the fire department, with one having recently fled in lieu of being a suspected serial killer. SCP-XXXX was identified and contained shortly following this.

—work in progress, or possibly never—

Test Log Candidates:

-test for memetic effects on user/victim, multiples times (standard/obvious and 'wait & see' stuff)

-test on hypochondriac ('bad leg' severed, instead of writing hand and so on)

-test on multiple occupants (maybe all perceive being pulled into each other, mutilated simultaneously as one blob of people? seems particularly hard to write, beyond multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-1 presenting themselves but interesting)

-test on individual over series of ‘episodes’ (turns individual catatonic, puts in coma, or can kill via sheer stress?)

—Conceptual Notes—

-conversion disorder

-blind individuals are not immune to any perceived mutilation, perhaps more detail beyond self?

-multiple episodes induce long-term effects, eventually even a permanent state of catatonic schizophrenia, coma, and inevitably death a dozen or so separate episodes.
