Item #: SCP-XXXX (will be replaced later)

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedure:

All staff on site must be equipped with wool insulated mylar suits. These suits must be replaced approximately every five hours, or whenever the suit reaches thermal equilibrium with the wearer. SCP-XXXX is to be left within a sphere of bulletproof glass no smaller than five (5) meters in diameter. Around the sphere, a larger sphere of 2000 W spotlights must be created. 2000W spotlights must always be directed towards SCP-XXXX. The sphere of spotlights should be placed so that equal amounts of light illuminate SCP-XXXX from all directions. Any spotlight that begins to dim or goes out must be immediately replaced by Level 2 or higher personnel. No physical contact should be made with SCP-XXXX during this process or at any other time. In the event of a power outage, a set of backup generators will automatically activate. There is also a tertiary generator in the event of failure within the secondary generator. In the unlikely scenario of all three generators failing, all staff must immediately report to Control Room Alpha and equip 500 W high power flashlights. Staff must then attempt to distract SCP-XXXX by illuminating SCP-XXXX without allowing SCP-XXXX into close proximity of any staff member or allowing SCP-XXXX to escape. This can be done by using the 500 W flashlights alternatingly to make SCP-XXXX switch its path of motion. This must be done until power is returned, at which time SCP-XXXX must be lured into containment. Ideally, illuminating a bright light within the bulletproof sphere will attract SCP-XXXX. The sphere may then be remotely closed and the spotlights may be turned back on. If this is ineffective, an incapacitated D-class personnel or animal may be used to lure SCP-XXXX back into containment. If the D-class/animal is turned into an instance of SCP-XXXX-1, the instance is to be immediately terminated. In the event of an escape by SCP-XXXX, nuclear warheads should not be used under any circumstance to avoid mass heat absorption. Instead, MTF-221 Foxtrot “Ghostbusters” must be contacted.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a humanoid figure currently 2.13 meters tall. It is bipedal when stationary, but quadrupedal when running. SCP-XXXX has no distinguishable features on its body due to the fact that the body of SCP-XXXX is completely black. SCP-XXXX absorbs all rays of visible light as well as infrared and ultraviolet rays. Based on Incident Report 451, it is likely that SCP-XXXX is immune to modern weaponry. Projectiles including bullets, flames and solid projectiles have passed through SCP-XXXX with no observable effects. Electricity has been tested on SCP-XXXX to no observable effect. Further testing is ongoing pending approval of O5-[redacted]. Traditional scales have not been able to obtain a measurement from SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX’s inability to be physically touched and apparent weightlessness may indicate that SCP-XXXX is massless. SCP-XXXX displays a high attraction for objects that produce light. The attraction seems to be directly proportional to the intensity of the light produced by the object. SCP-XXXX seems to be content when large amounts of light are on it. Whenever SCP-XXXX comes into contact with a light source, the light from that source will be immediately diminished. The light seems to be physically drained into SCP-XXXX, but no tests have proven this. SCP-XXXX also displays a high attraction to objects with high temperatures, particularly those made of organic material. SCP-XXXX displays high attraction to living beings, especially birds and mammals. SCP-XXXX is also attracted to recently deceased individuals if the body is above 30° C. SCP-XXXX does not interact with non-living corpses below this temperature threshold. When a living organism or corpse comes into contact with SCP-XXXX one or two possible outcomes will occur. The first is that the body will be absorbed. During this process, a victims body will slowly be turned into a black liquid, which is identical to SCP-XXXX-2. This sludge is then absorbed by SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX grows larger during this process, but it is currently unclear how efficient this process is due to the fact that SCP-XXXX’s weight is currently unmeasureable. The second possibility that occurs when a living object comes into contact with SCP-XXXX is much more rare, occurring approximately 22% of the time. During this process, the victim will slowly be engulfed by a black substance coming out of SCP-XXXX, seemingly identical to SCP-XXXX-2. Once, fully engulfed, the victim will become an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. During this process, SCP-XXXX will become smaller, with an apparent correlation to how big the victim is. This process can only occur when the victim is alive, however.

SCP-XXXX-1:
An instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is created approximately 22% of the time when a victim comes into physical contact with SCP-XXXX. Once the victim is fully engulfed in black liquid, it will reanimate. The new subject will be identical in outline to the victim, but will be completely black, similar to SCP-XXXX. The new instance of SCP-XXXX will then search out light and heat similarly to SCP-XXXX. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 can turn other living objects into more instances of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 instances have not yet been observed assimilating other organisms similarly to SCP-XXXX at this time. Based on Experiment 1, it seems that the victim remains alive when it becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 sometimes are assimilated back into SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX will grow larger if this occurs. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 seem to be autonomous of SCP-XXXX, as they continue to function when outside of the presence of SCP-XXXX. However, telepathic control of the instances by SCP-XXXX is possible. Unlike SCP-XXXX, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are vulnerable to traditional weaponry. When the instance is terminated or mortally wounded, the black liquid surrounding the subject will coalesce and become SCP-XXXX-2.

SCP-XXXX-2:
SCP-XXXX-2 is a black, oily substance that is found after an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is terminated. The substance has a low viscosity and can flow easily. SCP-XXXX-2 must be contained in any airtight container if researchers desire to keep it. SCP-XXXX-2 is not to be contained at this time. SCP-XXXX-2 is attracted to SCP-XXXX and will flow toward SCP-XXXX until it reaches it, at which time SCP-XXXX-2 will be assimilated by SCP-XXXX. If any living organism has physical contact with SCP-XXXX-2, it will be transformed into an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 or be made into even more SCP-XXXX-2 and coalesce with the already existing SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-2 takes no notice of any organisms nearby, and only attempts to return to SCP-XXXX-2.

Incident Report 451:
Psychological Evaluation of MTF-221 leader Mason Briggs by Dr. Joseph Warren:

Dr. Warren: Can you recall the events of September [redacted] 20[redacted]?

Briggs: I guess I can try… *sighs*. It was supposed to be a normal mission. We heard of a “dark man” that was terrorizing a small Canadian town and turning people into pitch black minions. We assumed it would be something that could be easily handled with bright lights and demon buster rounds. We geared up and set out in a heli. When we arrived the place was in chaos. People were screaming and running everywhere. The first thing I noticed was that there was little destruction, which usually happens when one of these anomalous fucks show up. We disembarked and moved into the town. That’s when we first got a look at what we were dealing with. There was this humanoid … thing crouching over the body of a child. It went after a child, man. Seeing that will fuck you up, regardless of how hard you are. To see a child’s body being consumed by a black liquid as he screams and cries for help is something you just can’t forget.

*Mason Briggs takes a deep sigh*

Dr. Warren: If you don’t want to keep going we can stop the interview.

Briggs: No, I’m fine. If I don’t tell you now I know one of you lab rats will come back for me soon enough. I put a bullet between that things eyes, well, where its eyes should have been, and it slumped over. That black stuff came off and began moving away. At the same time, that kid had been fully covered. He got up and looked at us. It began charging when Jordan put a bullet through it. Just like the first one, that sludge came off. The kid was still there though. With a bullet through his forehead. I don’t think Jordan was ever the same after seeing that. Really fucked him up. Can you blame him though? He put a bullet through that kids head… I’ve heard the victims are still alive when it takes them. I hope for Jordan’s sake he never finds that out… Anyways… we continued moving towards the town center, taking out a few of those things on the way there and when we reached the square, there it was. It was bigger than the rest, standing at about 7 feet tall. The darkest thing I’ve ever seen, it was pitch black. Mac put a clip through it, but it didn’t even flinch. That’s when it turned on us. We put the tac-lights on it, thinking it would repel the thing. But it didn’t care. It charged Mac, and it… it grabbed him. I should’ve saved him. I was right next to him. I started lighting that fucker up, but it didn’t do anything. That black liquid began moving up off the things arms onto Mac and started engulfing him. He was screaming the whole fucking time. He kept screaming that he was so cold. Dear God… it was awful. Jordan grabbed me and started pulling me away. I couldn’t bear to watch anymore so I shot him. Thought that was the least I could do. Didn’t want to see what happened to him after that and I started running with the squad. I ordered the squad to turn the lights off. When I turned around, the thing was climbing a street light. Mac was nowhere to be seen. When it reached the top of the pole, it put its hand on the light, which instantly went out. That’s when I realized it was attracted to light and not repelled by it. I ordered my team to turn their lights on and scatter them to slow the thing down. We hid in a building and called for evac. We had no idea how to stop the thing, so we needed the big guns to come in. I fed the info that the thing is attracted by light to the higher ups, which is how they came up with the plan to contain it. In about 20 minutes a truck from the nearest facility came with a huge spotlight on the back of it. Our new orders were to draw it into containment using that. They were building the container about two hours away so that we could be directly away from that thing the whole time while they got ready. While we were inside, that thing had found another target. It was easy to locate, though. That’s because we could hear the screams all the way across town. We drove the truck over and found It was attacking a family of four. The target was already absorbing two of them. The father was trying to help his daughter, but when he touched the black sludge it began spreading over him too. We put down everyone that was affected and turned on the spotlight. It instantly turned on us and we gunned it towards the designated zone. It came barreling after us, but thank god for technology. After initially outspeeding the SCP, we eventually figured out it ran about 30 mph max. I swear that this was faster than when it charged Mac, but anyway, we kept going. Around halfway to the containment zone, the sun began rising in the distance. This presented a slight obstacle, as the thing would get distracted by the sun. However, we’d shine the spotlight on it again and it would continue to follow us. Eventually, we drove into the containment zone and shut off the spotlight. The thing ran right into the containment sphere, where a bigger light was. It got shut where it was now. Thank god. I hope they terminate that fucker before he kills anyone else.

*The interview refers to Incident 451 in [redacted], Canada. This incident resulted in the death of thirty, including foundation personnel Nathan “Mac” MacNamara. Amnestics were applied to all survivors and a cover up story of a terrorist attack was implemented after multiple C4 explosives were set off at the town center. The incident ended in the capture of SCP-XXXX.*

Experiment XXXX-1:
On the request of General [redacted], foundation personnel were tasked with discovering how to sever SCP-XXXX-2’s connection with SCP-XXXX in order to be used as a potential component of stealth suits. In order to obtain a sample of SCP-XXXX-2, a D-class subject was used. The D-class was requested to enter the containment chamber of SCP-XXXX and drop live rats to SCP-XXXX until an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was created. D-class 2010 was sent into the chamber with a bucket filled with live rats. A small hole was created within the bulletproof glass sphere and attached to a long pipe. The pipe was made out of steel and the inside was covered in lubricant so that the rats would slide down it. D-class 2010 placed rats down the pipe. It was then observed whether or not an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was created. After an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was created, the pipe was lowered so that it was at a downward angle to the bulletproof sphere. The new instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was attracted by the D-class personnel and slid down the pipe into a container made of bullet proof glass. The instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was euthanized with poison gas so that a sample of SCP-XXXX-2 could be obtained. Once the sample was obtained, testing could begin. The container the sample was in had to steel plated gloves attached to the side so that personnel could interact with the substance without risk of direct contact. However, during an attempt to place the substance into a flask of hydrochloric acid, the sample of SCP-XXXX-2 caused a researcher to turn into SCP-XXXX-1. The researcher proceeded to cause four other researchers to turn into instances of SCP-XXXX-1. All instances were then terminated. One researcher temporarily survived the incident, an audio surveillance device recorded the researcher, which is transcribed below.

Audio Recording of Lab Assistant Andrew Long, after Experiment 1:

*Gunshots and then a thud*

Security Guard 1: That’s all of them, call in the hazardous-material clean up team. Higher ups have stated to let all this sludge to return to the SCP. Too dangerous to contain at the moment, apparently.

Security Guard 2: Yes sir

*Moans are heard from Andrew Long*

Security Guard 1: Wait. We have a live one!

*Andrew Long’s moans turn into screams and wails*

Andrew Long: Oh my god… it’s so cold. Everything is so cold. I need heat.. Please!

*Andrew Long hesitates for the moment*

Long: I’m… I’m alive? I got turned into SCP-XXXX-1 didn’t I?

Security Guard 1: We need medical staff in here ASAP!

Long: You… You have to listen to me, I’m not going to make it…

Security Guard 1: Just wait, we’ll get you patched up.

Long: No, you don’t understand… This could mean the fate of the world. I know what that thing wants…. When I was in there, our thoughts were… connected… It desires light, and while our containment procedures our adequate at keeping it satisfied for now. It has greater desires.

*Long can be heard violently coughing, likely due to the bullet wounds he has sustained*

Long: When it absorbs light or people, it gets stronger. It gets bigger and faster as well. While it is not capable of escaping this earth now. If it gets stronger… it… It wants to absorb the fucking sun…

*End of recording*

*Long died from blood loss shortly after within foundation healing chamber. The end of the recording were his last words. No further experiments have been done using SCP-XXXX. Long is the only known person to temporarily survive becoming SCP-XXXX-1. General [redacted] has been reprimanded for the failure of the experiment. Researchers are trying to discover better ways to keep SCP-XXXX contained, but the current confinement procedure seems to be adequate. Any further testing done on SCP-XXXX must be approved by the O-5 council.*
