A Literal Hired Gun

Item #: SCP-3358

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3358 should be kept in a standard sized rifle length gun case. It should be left with the bolt open and with a chain lock inserted into the chamber and magazine well preventing the weapon from being used. The key to this lock should be kept with the chief quartermaster at the weapon’s site. The case with the locked weapon should be kept in a restricted access section of the site’s armory. 05 approval is required for any use of SCP-3358 outside of general testing.

Description: SCP-3358 is a regular military model of the Remington 700 bolt action rifle. It is equipped with an x12 magnification scope, one OD green bipod, and one cheek riser. The weapon has no visible differences from a regular rifle except for two slots on the stock of the weapon. When in the hands of a regular shooter, the weapon will act as a regular rifle it accepts standard .308 ammo and standard Remington 700 magazines. The slots on the stock consist of a credit card reader, and a slot for inserting paper American currency. On credit card billing statements, the payment is filed under the Remington company’s name. When any individual inserts either a credit card or 500 USD they have approximately 1 minute to tell the rifle the name of a person they desire to have killed. If they fail to tell the rifle who they want to be killed, it will reject the payment. If the patron does not think of the face of the person they want killed, the rifle will not accept the job and return the payment. The rifle also does not accept jobs in which the patron offers it a nickname.

Upon acceptance of a job, the rifle will not move until the patron looks away. When the patron is not looking at the rifle, an entity designated SCP-3358-1 will manifest and take hold of the rifle. SCP-3358-1 is described as a featureless humanoid wearing a pair of rectangular lens glasses, it is translucent and purple in hue. As soon as the weapon is slung over the entity’s shoulder it will disappear without a trace. Within approximately 24 hours the target the patron paid for will be killed with a single clean shot to the head. The scene of the assassination will be 100% sterile upon inspection, the entity will not leave any implication of its existence. Upon completion of the hit, SCP-3358-1 will replace the rifle in the relative area where it was paid and vanish again. When the rifle is inspected, inside the chamber will be one Remington brand brass .308 casing. The patron does not have to supply ammunition to the entity and doing so will not make the entity fire more than a single shot. After testing it has been determined that the weapon has a 90% success rate in assassinating targets regardless of location, political status, or physical status. After inspecting sites in which the weapon failed to complete its hit, it was determined that the aim of the weapon was correct but a physical object either prevented the target from being hit by the projectile or there were no good angles to shoot from.

SCP-3358-1 does not make subsequent shots at targets, it either fires or does not and if it does not successfully kill the target the patron is refunded the payment in full. Tests showed that the rifle did not accept jobs that targeted children below the age of 18 or unmarried women except in case of political assassination, leading the researchers to believe that SCP-3358-1 somehow keeps up to date with the world and may have a moral code. All attempts to either entrap or communicate with SCP-3358-1 directly have failed. Researchers and upper-level personnel have considered the possibility of using SCP-3358 to eliminate high-value targets that are deemed to be a threat to the foundation or its interests, but such ideas are awaiting 05 approval
