Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All entities from SCP-XXXX are to be contained in their deck box, surrounded by 0.5 inches of molten steel. The box is to be stored in Storage Locker 4563-███
in Site ███.
Following Incident XXXX- B, all entities are to be stored in separate glass trays. These glass trays are to be put in four metal boxes, with each group of entities stored with their respective suit. These boxes are then stored in separate storage lockers at Site ███.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a group of 52 playing cards1 that display sentient behavior. SCP-XXXX-A-1-40 refers to 40 numbered playing cards divided into four suits: Clubs, Spades, Hearts, and Diamonds. These playing cards do show signs of complex thought, but are observed to be much less intelligent than SCP-XXXX-B-1-12. They act as soldiers or workers when employed by members of SCP-XXXX-B-1-12 that belong in their suit. SCP-XXXX-B-1-12 refers to 12 sentient "face cards" divided into the four suits mentioned above. The cards come in 3 types: The Jack (XXXX-B-J), The Queen (XXXX-B-Q), and the King (XXXX-B-K). These cards are similar in appearance to most cards of its time, but often move in their pictures and try to communicate through body movements.

These four classes of the SCP have to very distinctive phases of behavior.

Aggressive

This phase is triggered when one or more suits are put in a room with no walls separating them. They start to fly at each other at high speeds, the highest recorded being 78 mph. At this speed, the cards can easily slice through each other, and can easily injure Foundation personnel in the process. Any attempts to interfere with this behavior has been recognized as violence, and met with aggression. For this reason, any personnel attempting to disactivate this behavior must wear a full Kevlar jumpsuit and be armed with protective bulletproof shields.

Additional Notes

Personnel have claimed to observe instances of SCP-XXXX using weapons made out of wood fiber and card wax, but as of now these claims are unverified.

Passive

When not in their aggressive state, entities comprising SCP-XXXX default to a passive state. In this state, SCP-XXXX-A-1-40 are observed to use minor telekinetic forces to chip off materials from their surroundings, including but not limited to:

  • Lead paint
  • Wood
  • Aluminum
  • Cards
  • Plant fiber
  • [REDACTED]
  • Tin
  • Dr. ███████ Orson's corpse

These materials are used to make walls, castles and homes coinciding with European 16th century architecture. Common layouts of these structures are recorded in Resource N-3. There seems to be a highlight around the respective symbols of the suits, with "stained glass windows" being adorned with their crests, as well as banners and walls. As far as the Foundation observes, there is no visible interior to these structures. At sunset, the cards' frames become empty, missing any identifiable numbers and faces. They return to their normal forms after sunrise. Interviews questioning the cards about the interior of these structures have been… puzzling at best. The structures are pitch black inside, and cannot be illuminated by any amount of light, whether it be solar or artificial. It is suspected that the interior, at least when between the hours of sunset and sunrise, takes the form of an extra-dimensional space. Whether the cards enter this space after leaving their physical form is unproven. It is unknown whether entities besides the cards reside in this space.
