Item #:
SCP-XXXX

Object Class:
Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
Subject is to be contained in a stretch of land approximately 231 acres in size, located in (DATA EXPUNGED). Subject should be allowed to reproduce and spread freely, and should only be halted in the event that it surpasses the 231 acre limit. The concealment of SCP-XXXX is to be maintained under the guise of a nature preserve. A minimum of 20 teams of 3 level 4 security personnel to a team are to be posted at regular intervals around the perimeter of the containment site, to prevent unauthorized civilian presence. Any fauna attempting to enter the containment site is to be allowed entry unless it poses a significant threat to the subjects. A minimum of 5 level 4 botanical research staff are to be present on site at all times.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a oak tree that stands approximately 20 feet tall and is of unknown age, as typical indicators, such as annual growth rings, are absent, leading some staff to believe subject was "created" by some other anomalous entity, and not grown normally. SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties are not immediately evident until the removal, either intentional, accidental, or natural, of a branch 1 inch in diameter or thicker. Once removed, the branch or branches, collectively know as "SCP-XXXX-A" will almost immediately animate, slithering and squirming there way across the ground, much like a snake. Once subject encounters a clear patch of grass or dirt, SCP-XXXX-A will stand itself upright and drive the broken end of itself into the ground. Once driven deep enough to stand straight with no support, subject will begin to anchor itself by rapidly growing roots. This process usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 48 hours, depending on the size of the branch and distance from SCP-XXXX. once the anchoring process is complete, subject will then take on the physical properties of a seemingly random species of tree, native to the environment or not. Subject will then begin to grow like a normal tree.

Addendum:
SCP-XXXX research staff are currently petitioning 05 Command to classify the subject as a possible contengincy plan for certain XK-"end of the world" extinction scenarios. Approval of the petition is currently pending.
