SCP-3962 “The Wendigo”

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-3962 is to be kept in a 5 meter by 5 meters by 5-meter containment chamber consisting of 20 inches of solid concrete, lined with 9 inches of titanium. The door should only be opened for testing when authorized by O5 command, and the specimen is administered heavy tranquilizer. If the door is opened without authorization, the perpetrator should be immediately detained and terminated.

The primary form of containment in the organism's native region is slightly different than the procedures for captured specimens. The containment area is limited to an 8 km area in the [DATA REDACTED] National Park in [DATA REDACTED]. The area is bordered by a 9-meter high electrical fence and is manned twenty-four hours a day by guards armed with high caliber assault rifles. Civilians are prohibited from entering the area. Should a civilian enter the area, they should be detained.

If more than one instance of SCP-3962 breach the perimeter fence, the station should be immediately put on lockdown. Mobile Task Force TAU-13 will be dispatched to the site and shall be given full details as to the severity of the breach. Should TAU-13 be unsuccessful in their attempts to contain the instances of SCP-3962, an evacuation of the city of [DATA REDACTED] should be put into effect.

Basic Information: SCP-3962, codenamed “The Wendigo” by Foundation staff, is a Keter-class anomaly that can mimic the voice, appearance, and mannerisms of organisms that it kills. The organism is normally found in the forests and tundras of northern areas of the North American continent, as the climate of the area suits its needs. The specimen hunts in a similar way to an Angler Fish, luring in its prey by disguising itself as something seemingly harmless, then striking at its prey when they lower their guard.

First Sighting:
The organism known as SCP-3962 was first seen in the [DATA REDACTED] valley in [DATA REDACTED] on [DATA REDACTED] The specimen was seen luring in a Wolverine, after reports of missing people in the area. The creature engaged in combat with MTF, dismembering several before being hit with a tranquilizer. The specimen was then transported to Site 17 in the northeastern area of [DATA REDACTED]. The creature was studied for [DATA REDACTED] months before it was transferred to Site 20 because of an incident in command. (See addendum 3962-a for details) More instances of SCP-3962 began to appear in the northern regions of [DATA REDACTED], causing worry within the Foundation, pertaining to the durability of these specimens.

Description: The organism stands at approximately 3.5 meters in length, with a build varying from emaciated to bulky, depending on the diet of the organism. Its head consists of the skull of a deer or elk, depending on the region, topped with the antlers of that animal. Its feet are composed of cloven hooves, approximately 6 ½ inches in diameter. It possesses large palms, tipped with extremely sharp talons, capable to cut through solid steel. Regardless of body type, the creature is extremely strong and fast, being able to reach speeds of 128 kilometers per hour. The specimen is also quite durable, withstanding multiple 50 caliber rounds to the cranium before being terminated. Its body is mostly covered in fur, similar to that of a deer or elk. There are currently 12 known instances of the object in existence, including the Alpha, which is contained at Site 20. The other 11 instances are contained in the [DATA REDACTED] National Park, which has been restricted to public access due to the danger presented by SCP-3962. The Alpha, to avoid confusion, has been classified as SCP-3962-1, while other instances are codenamed SCP-3962-2.

Addendum 3962-a: On the night of [DATA REDACTED], O5 command experienced a rare communication error, resulting in the death of Dr. Simmons, and the Alpha specimen escaping. The specimen was eventually found, but at the cost of several MTF, and many researchers.
