Item #: SCP-4000
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4000 is to be contained as soon as possible, as it has spread among a majority of the continents of Europe and Asia Minor. One infected subject should be contained in a standard humanoid containment chamber, which has any gaps air could get into being covered and filled using cloth, at Site-79. Due to the anomaly being known to the public, Public Task Force Ψ-18 “Crow Doctors” is to distribute experimental cures to as many civilians as possible. To decrease panic, Cover Story-H3 “God’s Wrath” has successfully been spread throughout the populace. The cures mentioned above currently revolve around the balancing of the humors using methods such as:
- Bloodletting
- Forced sweating
- Overconsumption of water
Description: SCP-4000 is an affliction of unknown origin which cannot be cured by any means currently known to man. There are three varieties of SCP-4000 (referred to as SCP-4000-A, SCP-4000-B, and SCP-4000-C) which, while having vastly different symptoms, all lead to very high mortality rates.
SCP-4000-A attacks the lungs and causes fevers, weakness, headaches, the coughing of blood, and nausea within a few hours of initial affliction, which quickly turns into pneumonia, chest pain, shock, and death by respiratory failure.
SCP-4000-B attacks the blood and causes abdominal pain, heavy bleeding out of all bodily orifices, diarrhea, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, shock, and gangrene. Any people found to be infected with this variety of the plague, is not to be subject to any healing attempts, as the infected will almost inevitably still die, and the doctor will likely become infected as well.
SCP-4000-C attacks the lymph nodes and causes chills, muscle cramps, fever, seizures, gangrene, swelling within the groin, armpits, and neck, and malaise. This variety is by far the most common of the three varieties.
Discovery: SCP-4000 was discovered in 1347 in Italy, where it is believed to have been brought by a trading ship traveling from Asia Major brought it to Italy. From Italy, the plague quickly spread throughout the general populace, when about 7 months after initial infection is presumed to have happened, the Foundation was made aware.

Item #: SCP-4000-EX
Object Class: Keter Explained
Special Containment Procedures: No special containment procedures are currently required for SCP-4000-EX at this time.
Description: SCP-4000-EX is a bacterial plague caused by the species Yersinia pestis, originally thought by the Foundation to be anomalous. SCP-4000-EX is currently easily curable through antibiotics. There are three varieties of SCP-4000-EX (referred to as SCP-4000-A-EX, SCP-4000-B-EX, and SCP-4000-C-EX), which, while having vastly different symptoms, all lead to very high mortality rates if not properly treated.
SCP-4000-A-EX, now known as the pneumonic plague, infects the lungs and causes fevers, weakness, headaches, the coughing of blood, and nausea within a few hours of initial affliction, which quickly turns into pneumonia, chest pain, shock, and death by respiratory failure.
SCP-4000-B-EX, now known as the septicemic plague, infects the blood and causes abdominal pain, heavy bleeding out of all bodily orifices, diarrhea, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, shock, and gangrene.
SCP-4000-C-EX, nowknown as the bubonic plague, infects the lymph nodes and causes chills, muscle cramps, fever, seizures, gangrene, swelling within the groin, armpits, and neck, and malaise.
Discovery: SCP-4000-EX was discovered in 1347 in Italy, where it is believed to have been brought by a trading ship traveling from Asia Major brought it to Italy. From Italy, the plague quickly spread throughout the general populace, when about 7 months after initial infection is presumed to have happened, the Foundation was made aware.
The bacteria Yersinia pestis was discovered in 1894 by the swiss researcher Alexandre Yersin during an epidemic of SCP-4000 in the territory of Hong Kong. SCP-4000 was declared Explained on 26/07/1894.
