Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be put under a continuous, non-interrupted distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. At least nine (9) PCs are to be conducting said attack at any given moment. These PCs are to be kept in at least three (3) different storage rooms on sites ██, ██ and ██. In each of these locations at least one backup energy generator is to be connected to the computers in case of power outages. A technician is to check up on all machines on a weekly basis and to undertake any maintenance duties whenever necessary, be it hardware or software related. Otherwise, these storage rooms are only accessible by personnel with Level 2 clearance or higher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous website from a publishing company called ██████ ██████ that offers services pertaining to self-publishing, international book distribution and a special print-on-demand option that delivers books world-wide. While the website does not seem to be anomalous at first glance, it offers a delivery service called “instant delivery”, next to the more common tiers of “express delivery” and “standard delivery”. When selecting the instant delivery method during checkout, the user-uploaded book will appear more or less instantly in the proximity of the provided address, seemingly out of thin air. Furthermore, they seem to be free of charge. Books that are ordered through SCP-XXXX with the instant delivery option will be from now on referred to as SCP-XXXX-1.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will usually appear where books are commonly stored or seen lying around, such as bookshelves, night stands or tables, but less common (though still not unusual) places like on sofas, on the floor or in a bed are possible as well. SCP-XXXX-1 is also offered for sale in online retailers such as ██████ and indexed in multiple book indexes.

The amount of SCP-XXXX-1 instances that is possible to order is of varying limit and depends on the size and type of the location. It is assumed it is like that for the books to appear in a inconspicuous manner. Addresses can be general locations as well and will appear in suitable places. See Test Log TE-XXXX-A.

The actual process of appearing is yet to be experienced first hand as instances of SCP-XXX-1 will only materialize in a place where that is currently not supervised in any manner with the effect that the book are only found after they have appeared and never during the process itself.

SCP-XXXX first came to the Foundation’s attention when DR. R████ used SCP-XXXX to self-publish a book he wrote, an erotica novel regarding the ████ and the ████ ███ fetish published under the pseudonym of N████ T████████. Dr. R████ was perplexed when he found his newly published book in his home library, sitting in a formerly empty spot on a shelf a mere 10 minutes after he ordered it. After he tested SCP-XXXX’s a few more times, he reported the anomalous website to the Foundation.

The Foundation took immediate steps to locate and suppress SCP-XXX, though no physical evidence of the existence of the company such as its headquarters, its printing presses or even its servers were found. Nonetheless, a DDOS attack was found to be effective in containing SCP-XXXX, resulting in HTML error 503 when visiting SCP-XXXX and making the website unreachable for any and all users.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 can be differentiated from normal books by [DATA REDACTED. SCP-XXXX might be of use to the Foundation so knowledge of how to identify SCP-XXXX-1 is restricted to personnel of clearance level 4 or higher. In order to obtain the specific characteristics of SCP-XXXX-1 and other information, form F-XXXX-1A and/ or form F-XXXX-1B, respectively, must be filled out and submitted to the council.]

No anomalous characteristics were found to be exhibited by SCP-XXXX-1.

Utilisation of SCP-XXXX was suggested to the council to be used as a tool for misinformation campaigns of the Foundation and is currently pending review.
