Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a barred, metal rodent cage in the middle of a 20x20 room, with plenty of food, water, and bedding to sustain it. Surveillance cameras are to keep a constant eye on SCP-XXXX during the cleaning and feeding process to prevent items being stolen. Staff are allowed playtime with SCP-XXXX but are advised to discard all small objects before entering the containment chamber. (Cell phones, wallets, pens, handguns, ETC.)
Description: SCP-XXXX is an adult female Wistar laboratory rat, (Rattus Norveigicus) approximately 7.9oz in weight with white coloration and distinct red pupils. Upon entering the proximity of SCP-XXXX’s cage, small items found outside the cage will disappear and reappear inside the cage when eye contact with SCP-XXXX is broken. later inspection of the cage proved no locks or bars had been tampered with.
SCP-XXXX was discovered during a laboratory test of SCP-███. Dr.███ was tasked with the testing of an experimental vaccine on a controlled test group of laboratory rats. After looking away for approximately 2 seconds to respond to a coworker, Dr.███'s syringe was stolen from his hand and into the possession of SCP-XXXX.
Multiple objects and scenarios have been tested. In each test, a different object of varying size,
the object's distance from the cage, and other miscellaneous factors were documented.
First test: A ceramic bowl full of baby carrots was placed on the floor, 20 feet from the cage. The entire bowl was moved from the floor and into the cage after all research staff had broken eye contact for 2 seconds. The test ended with SCP-XXXX storing the carrots beneath its bedding.
Second test: A clipboard was placed on the floor at the same distance. The same result occurred in under 2 seconds. The test ended with SCP-XXXX tearing the scratch paper from the clipboard to use as bedding.
Third test: A Class-D test subject was sent into the room and given a Quaker Brand granola bar. The subject was asked to approach SCP-XXXX, stop within 10 feet of the cage, unwrap the bar, and close his eyes. The subject and the observing research team all simultaneously broke eye contact with SCP-XXXX. Upon regaining visual contact, the bar had been snatched from the subject's hand and reappeared in SCP-XXXX’s cage. The test ended with SCP-XXXX storing the granola bar under it's bedding and the subject was sent back to the Detention Block with minor scratch marks. Later analysis of the marks conclude they came from rodent claws.
A fourth test was conducted using surveillance footage. A second Class-D was sent into the room, this time with a Canon Brand HD camcorder and another Quaker Brand granola bar. Again, the subject was instructed to approach the cage and stop within 10 feet. The subject unwrapped the bar, turned on the camcorder and all research staff broke eye contact with SCP-XXXX for 3 seconds. When visual contact had been regained, the granola bar remained in the test subject’s hand. Further study is required to conclude if SCP-XXXX is aware it is being recorded.
Attempts to recover the stolen items was met with little resistance as SCP-XXXX did little to keep it's property.
