Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:SCP-XXXX
Description: SCP-3721 is a 3 inch thick leather-bound book. The words 'The Master Book' are embroidered onto the front of the book in 10 karat gold. Upon opening SCP-XXXX, the entity will read, perceive or otherwise comprehend a set of instructions. No matter who or what interacts with SCP-XXXX, instructions will always adjust themselves so they can be understood. In recorded cases, humans will be able to read their instructions in their primary language, animals or organics otherwise incapable of understanding speech will receive a complex series of sounds and smells, and machines or automatons will be visually shown precise pixel perfect images corresponding to machine code.
Instructions given vary, but in most cases subjects will receive a set of five rules each page. Rules given are often trivial by nature, requiring the reader to perform or not perform certain tasks. While readers are capable of disobeying rules, they will feel a strong mental and sometimes physical (See addendum XXXX.1) compulsion to obey. On occasion, readers will be instructed to enforce and uphold the rules given to others. This usually results in the subject taking physical action against those who disobey their given rules.
Addendum XXXX.1
D-43229 and D-10094 are introduced into a medium sized room with SCP-XXXX resting on a table in the center. Test is being conducted by Researcher Sven. Log taken shortly after initial recovery of object, and little to nothing is known about the object's behavior
Sven: D-10094, please open the book in the center of the room**
D-10094: Sure thing Doc
D-10094 opens SCP-XXXX and appears ecstatic
D-10094: Holy crap! Is this a promotion!?
Sven: What? What does the book say?
D-10094: <Distraught> Well… it says "You will uphold order"
Sven: Interesting… D-43229, now you. Please open the book.
D-43229: Sure thing…D-43229 mutters an expletive under his breath before opening SCP-XXXX and appears concerned with the contents
D-43229: Are-ey ou-yey eally-rey onna-gey ake-mey- Are you guys really onna-gey-
D-43229 seems to struggle with his words before continuing. D-10094 shows extreme discomfort upon D-43229's break from pig latin
D-43229: What the hell kind of ules r- RULES are these?
Sven: Please recite the rules you were given. In english if you can
D-43229: <noticeable pause> Number one is 'You shall not walk backwards'… Two is 'You shall never use slurs', Three is 'You hall-sey, SHALL SPEAK PIG LATIN'
D-10094 is showing heightened signs of hostility towards D-43229. Sven silently motions a security to accompany the D class within the chamber, upon which D-10094 become less hostile
D-43229: <Brief pause to acknowledge guard's entry> Four just says not to drink any carbonated substances, and five is just… it says not to disclose these rules to any other. Sugar- I mean shit…Sugar, sorry.
D-43229 backs away from stationed security guard, D-10094 inhales heavily, but then resolves. Both D class are escorted back to D block
Approximately four hours after the conclusion of testing D-10094 stabs and kills D-43229 when no guards are present, despite their previous reported comradery. D-10094 reports having no memory of the incident and appears distressed upon discovery of his actions. D-10094 is placed in solitary confinement, execution postponed until all testing with SCP-XXXX is concluded
Addendum XXXX.2
One D class subject previously met with 'You will be a Scribe' is placed in a room with SCP-XXXX and a folder. All observation is done from remote sources monitered once again by Researcher Sven
<0h.45m.0s> D Class exhibits normal behavior and noticeable boredom
<2h.15m.0s> All remote surveillance is disabled temporarily
<2h.15.15s> Two security personnel enter chamber for direct observation. Security personel discover subject crouched in corner, having torn open a vein in their left arm with their right index finger nail. D class appears to be frantically writing in the supplied folder using their own blood. Before security personnel can reach the subject, subject falls unconscious. Folder now appears to be titled 'Rule Book' in gold. Before she can be stopped, one guard opens the new instance of SCP-XXXX-A. Guard begins to exclaim, but quickly covers her mouth before realizing her mistake.
<2h.16.30> Guard A: <Nearly hyperventilating> "It said not to speak… that was the only rule!"
Guard A is issued a temporary set of flak armor to protect against future assassination attempts but is ultimately re-assigned to SCP-XXXX. Guard B denies having perceived the inside of SCP-XXXX-A
Addendum XXXX.3
Approximately two weeks after the events of Addendum XXXX.3 aforementioned Guard A successfully counters an assassination attempt from D-10094. Upon entering the medbay for medical attention, Guard A and all surrounding medical staff are shot and killed by Guard B, who afterwards displays similar amnesia symptoms to D-10094. Guard B has been terminated and SCP-XXXX has been subsequently re-classified as Euclid
There's no way of knowing how many scribes, protectors or books there are out there. Who knows how many homicides are caused by this thing. Formally requesting this anomly be re-classified as Keter
