Item #: SCP-?

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-? is not to be tampered with or connected to any external device in an attempt to retrieve data stored within itself. SCP-? is to be kept in a soundproof plexiglass containment unit approximately 0.5m by 0.5m. SCP-?-2 is not required to remain attached to the outside of SCP-?-1, however removal must be performed with the proper tools and equipment as to avoid any further incident (See SCP-?-A).

Description: SCP-? consists of 2 parts classified as SCP-?-1 and SCP-?-2.

SCP-?-1 appears to be an 18GB industrial hard disk drive (HDD) from the early 2000s, weighing approximately ██████. SCP-?-1 has a large sticker on one side reminiscent of a label commonly used on HDDs of similar appearance. Information is present on this label but does not seem to contain anything useful in explaining SCP-?-1s anomalous properties. When an attempt is made to either disassemble or alter any aspect of SCP-?-1, a phenomenon occurs that staff have described as “Uploading The Soul” where SCP-?-1 takes the human soul away from its host and stores it inside itself. After testing, D-class personnel that have come in contact with SCP-?-1 show no signs of life in any aspect other than basic human bodily functions. SCP-?-1 has been observed to let out short bursts of sounds reminiscent of distorted human screams that seem to aggrevate other SCPs within its vicinity.

SCP-?-2 is a tray that was attached to SCP-? upon discovery. SCP-?-2 consists of many parts made of aluminum, steel, and plastic. Prior encounters have confirmed that attempts to disassemble SCP-?-2 are non-incidental. As of now, SCP-?-2 is not known to possess any anomalous properties when separated from its counterpart and has thus been classified as Neutralized. While SCP-?-2 states that SCP-?-1 possesses a storage of approximately 18GB, it is unclear whether SCP-?-1 has a limited or infinite internal storage.

Addendum ?-1 Discovery
SCP-? was discovered in the electronics section of a Goodwill, a non-profit hand-me-down convenience store in █████████████████. SCP-? was purchased from the store by a 17 year old male. The 17 year old, based on word from his parents, "wanted to take it (SCP-?) apart to see how it works". The parents found the 17 year old in his room, immobile, and possessing no higher brain functions. The local police were called immediately after. The following day, SCP-? was located by our research team and was later seized and brought into containment.

Addendum ?-2 Incident SCP-?-A
The first test for SCP-? was initiated on 04-21-20██ at Site ██. The first test was to see if SCP-? had any data stored inside it that the research team could potentially recover. Dr. Richards was on observation as a D class personnel inserted SCP-? into a connector designed specifically for this test. Upon connection, SCP-? let out a cry that lasted about 3 seconds. Once the cry had stopped, all personnel in the building suddenly fell to the floor. Their bodies were discovered 2 weeks later, most severely malnourished and some dead. The survivors were transported to the Site 50 Medical Facility. Dr. Richards body was not found anywhere in the building. SCP-? was transported to a more secure containment at Site ██. Of the 37 living personnel, not one has made any recovery progress as of yet. No further test are to be initiated.
