We just want to tell a story…
Item #: SCP-X
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP X and its contents are to be kept in a secure room at [Somewhere in Canada]. Under no circumstance are SCP X, SCP-X-1, or any instance of SCP-X-2 allowed to be removed from containment without Level 4 clearance.
Revision: Following Incident X-1 (see below), containment procedures have been revised. SCP-X is to be kept in a secure containment unit along with bedding for four people. Every night, at least two personnel must be appointed to spend the night in SCP X's containment unit. Any personnel with at least level 3 access may volunteer. One of the appointed subjects will be designated as "the Narrator," while the other one to three subjects will be designated as "the audience".
Before going to sleep, the Narrator must read at least three pages from SCP-X-1, while the audience must watch and react to SCP-X-2 as they perform.
Description:
SCP-X is a wooden suitcase, measuring 61 cm wide, 37.4 cm tall, and 8 cm thick when closed, not including the handle. Its outer surface is coated in black paint, although the front features a brightly-coloured painting that depicts instances of SCP-X-2 dancing beneath a sunset. The interior of SCP-X features one compartment1 meant to store SCP-X-1, twelve smaller compartments2 meant to store SCP-X-2, and an additional hidden compartment that can only be accessed by SCP-X-2. The latter compartment contains various props that instances of SCP-X-2 will use when performing, including costumes, accessories, replica weapons, miniature functioning Foundation access cards, and possibly more.
SCP-X-1 is a small red paperback book with no words on the cover. The book measures 10 cm long, 7 cm wide, and 1 cm thick. Inside is a series of written stories that range wildly in subject, theme, and genre. The story that the Narrator will turn to when they first open the book will typically be one that will appeal most to the present audience3. The total amount of stories within SCP-X-1 appears to be infinite - all attempts to turn to the last page of the book have proven unsuccessful.
SCP-X-2 collectively refers to 12 small wooden toys, each depicting an animal or creature that appears in SCP-X-1's stories. When the Narrator reads from SCP-X-1, SCP-X-2 will spring to life, and begin acting out the story as the Narrator reads. If there is no audience present, then SCP-X-2's performance will appear unmotivated or lackluster.
The following is a list of all twelve instances of SCP-X-2.
| Designation | Description | Known Names4 | Typical role or personality |
|---|---|---|---|
| SCP-X-2a | An ambiguous child wearing a red shirt. | Kid, George, Melissa | Tends to be the heroic protagonist. |
| SCP-X-2b | A blue bird. | Blue, Talon, Sir Tin | Tends to be SCP-X-2a's most faithful ally. |
| SCP-X-2c | A brown monkey. | Monkey, Lawrence, Harry | Tends to portray a friendly trickster. |
| SCP-X-2d | A white rabbit. | Rabbit, Lucy, Charlie | Characters portrayed by SCP-X-2d tend to be cowardly, and are often bribed with carrots or other goods. |
| SCP-X-2e | A blue elephant. | Elephant, Buster, Ellie | Tends to play a strong and imposing, but unintelligent character. Interestingly, has at least once played the role of a cow. |
| SCP-X-2f | A notably large turquoise snail. | Snail, Pierre, Fred | Characters portrayed by this puppet tend to be more friendly. |
| SCP-X-2g | An orange tiger with black stripes. | Tiger, Prince, Selena | Tends to play a cunning antagonist. |
| SCP-X-2h | A grey wolf. | Wolf, Lawrence, Max | Tends to play either an antagonist or anti-hero. |
| SCP-X-2i | A pink mushroom with white spots and beady eyes on its stem. | Spencer, Puff, The Princess | Often plays a minor role whereas it presents the story's McGuffin, or is itself the McGuffin. |
| SCP-X-2j | A large yellow bee with black stripes. | Bee, Beatrice, Hector | Tends to be extremely aggressive. Has attacked site personnel (See Incident X-1). |
| SCP-X-2k | A gold Chinese dragon. | Dragon, Drake, The King | Typically portrays royalty, god, or some other higher power. |
| SCP-X-2l | A tree with a face and long branches for arms. Can dispense wooden balls to represent apples. | The Tree, Earl, The Wizard | Usually appears in scenes as a stationary prop, but sometimes gives the other characters advice. |
While the Narrator is reading SCP-X-1 and instances of SCP-X-2 are present and performing, the audience will begin to feel drowsiness, and will eventually fall asleep, usually by the time the Narrator has finished reading three pages.
If SCP-X, SCP-X-1, and SCP-X-2 are not interacted with in over two days, or if SCP-X-2 is not allowed to perform in front of a live audience, SCP-X-2k will fly away, carrying SCP-X and the rest of its contents with it. The other instances of SCP-X-2 will assist SCP-X-2k in their escape, often by utilizing the props stored in SCP-X's hidden compartment.
Acquisition:
SCP-X was discovered at the ██████ Orphanage in Ontario, Canada after rumors of a set of "magical toys" emerged. Agents M██████ and M██████ investigated, and discovered SCP-X's anomalous effects when they read SCP-X-1 to a group of children. When the orphanage staff were interviewed, they claimed that SCP-X had appeared about two years ago, and has since been a staple feature of the ██████ Orphanage. SCP-X was confiscated, and Amnestics were applied to the orphanage staff and children.

Incident X-1: After four days with no interaction, the door to SCP-X's containment cell was opened from the inside. Two members of security spotted SCP-X-2k flying away, while carrying SCP-X in its claws, and ordered for it to stop. SCP-X-2k approached the guards, and opened SCP-X enough so that SCP-X-2c could crawl out and hand SCP-X-1 to the guards. SCP-X was seized and returned to its containment cell. SCP-X-2k was bound with fishing line.
Two hours later, the door to SCP-X's containment cell was again opened from the inside, and SCP-X-2k flew out carrying SCP-X. SCP-X-2k was again spotted and captured by security. SCP-X-2j repeatedly attempted to sting the guards in retaliation, but was quickly captured. Instead of being returned to its containment unit, SCP-X was brought to Dr. Gil, who read SCP-X-1 to the security guards. After the guards had fallen asleep, Dr. Gil returned SCP-X-1 to its compartment, and brought SCP-X back to its containment cell.
In light of this incident, it's clear that SCP-X-2 is extremely clever, resourceful, and very eager to do its job. I propose that SCP-X should be reclassified as Euclid, and that its containment procedures be revised to emphasize nightly testing. - Dr. Gil
