- Item #: 5732
- Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures Revision 3: SCP-5732 is to be locked in at least 2 cases of steel with the first being approximately a 1.5 meter by 1.5 meter by 1.5 meter case with steel only. Cameras (thermal as well as traditional) and heat sensors are a requirement. There will also be a small "Observation room" outside of the containment chambers that has access to all of the data being gathered by the heat sensors and cameras. There will also be a manually toggled extinguisher switch, when activated this switch will flood the containment chamber with water. The second layer of containment will be a supportive structural layer, to prevent outside influences such as explosions from interfering with containment. (Which is how it breached the other two times.)
Physical testing is permitted only under the following procedures: 1.No physical interaction is allowed without an outer unit being comprised of steel surrounding the area the test is being conducted in; 2. approval of the testing protocol by at least 2 level 4 security clearance personnel; 3. any human or entity to enter the containment box of SCP-5732 is to wear steel at all times.
In the containment sector SCP-5732 is contained in, fire extinguishers must be placed at a distance of 3 meters, always to be easily accessible. If it is to be transported, then fire extinguishers must be in the vehicle that is transporting it.
Moving the object (short distances, etc. from it's containment chamber to a testing chamber) must entail that it be placed in a steel box with steel tongs and then transported with additional personnel to carry fire extinguishers.
If SCP-5732 is to be carried long distances (to another containment site for example), all short distance procedures shall be followed, with the exception that whatever transport method shall be used must contain a slightly large container of steel that the temporary box shall be placed in.
Description:
SCP-5732 seems to have the appearance of a plastic toy campfire that is 9.7 cm long, 8.4 centimeters wide and 8 cm tall. With a sticker on it saying it was the product of a company, "Fun for kiddies!" (Yes the exclamation mark is in the brand name.) However, this company does not now and has never existed. Any physical object that interacts with SCP-5732 with the exception of steel (and the brand sticker) will begin to burn any object at around █ seconds per square inch, this effect is consistent even in objects that are non flammable (Including the campfire's own ashes). Contact can be with any part of the object. Oddly enough, iron does not have the same immunity that steel does, as it only resists the effects of SCP-5732. After about █ minutes however iron will begin to burn. Tests with "flame proof" materials show the materials burning with similar rapidity to other fuels. (Again, the only substance immune to the effects of 5732 is steel.) Note: Standard fire fighting methods (dousing with water, lack of air, etc..) can still work on the fire created by SCP-5732 but do not seem to limit the object's effects itself.
Upon contact with any human, the fire will first (assuming there is skin on the point of contact) start to burn the skin, and then after doing so burn all of the organs. Killing the human in around 67 seconds. If spread by an object that made physical contact with SCP-5732 the fire will lose all anomalous (in other words, it can only burn flammable materials.) effects.
Oddly enough, even materials that melt, not burn, will still burn as if they were flammable.
No heat can be sensed near it, and the only fire like effects start when physical contact is made. There have been several times where Class-D personnel hovered their hands just above SCP-5732 and reported feeling no heat.
Note: Attempts to contain it with it's own ashes have proven unsuccessful as it burns away it's own ashes until everything left is CO2 and other gasses. However due to the nature of how things burn containing SCP-5732 in it's own ashes does slow it down (mainly because when a layer of ash is burned it leaves a slightly smaller layer of ash below it)
Discovery Log: Locals had been reporting ██ ████████ ██████ cave that could ███ ████ ████ █████████ ██████. With reports of the ████ no longer ███████ ██████ and █████████ happening at the same time, the SCP foundation looked into it and found SCP-5732. Class █ Amnestics were used on all witnesses.
