Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-4483 is currently located at Secure Site 800-R, sublevel 2. Containment must be located no less than one hundred and fifty (150) meters below local groundwater to prevent contamination. All four members of SCP-4483 are to be housed in an unlit ten (10) by five (5) by five (5) chamber, the walls of which are to be constructed from airtight, non-reflective materials, and painted with a non-reflective, heat-resistant matte black paint. SCP-4483 must be contained within a four (4) by two point five (2.5) meter reinforced glass box on a raised concrete base no more than thirty (30) centimeters from the floor. The temperature of containment box must be kept no lower than one hundred and forty (140) degrees fahrenheit, and adequately connected to a sterile, airtight drainage system.

Chamber and drainage must be checked daily for buildup of contaminants by two D-class personnel under armed escort. SCP-4483 is to be monitored at all times for signs of natural dermal regrowth. Any and all members of staff observing SCP-4483 must be regularly rotated out in three month periods. Any and all staff showing signs of sympathy or suggestibility when observing or checking SCP-4483 are to be assessed for termination.

In the event of containment breach, sublevel 2 will enter a lockdown period. Sublevel 2 will be flooded with decontaminants, typically in the form of concentrated Glutaraldehyde or Formaldehyde vapors. Elevators shaft to the surface will be sealed and collapsed in the event SCP-4483 cannot be re-contained.

Description:

SCP-4483 is a group organism consisting of four anomalous humanoid creatures resembling anatomically-modern humans. SCP-4483 is comprised of two adult instances (designated SCP-4483a and SCP-4483b), and two adolescent instances (designated SCP-4483c and SCP-4483d), both of indeterminate gender. SCP-4483 was discovered dressed in attire matching that of a middle class British family from Victorian-era Canada. Each member of SCP-4483 is characterized by a complete lack of upper epidermis. Medical analysis has shown that collectively, SCP-4483 appears to have been flayed at some point in its existence, owed to deep lacerations located in the soft tissue. SCP-4483 also share additional defining traits as follows; lack of visible sensory organs, lack of mouth, presence of unique emission glands under the lower mandible, subpar physical strength, and constant state of bloodloss. In spite of its exposed subcutaneous tissue, and where conventional dermal layers would protect it from, SCP-4483 does not experience visible discomfort or pain from its condition; additionally, SCP-4483 has shown further absence of pain during testing with methods not limited to, but including; blunt force trauma, laceration, temperature extremes, pressure, oxygen deprivation, and exposure to predatory creatures (see Test Log 4483-1). Due to the nature of SCP-4483's exposed skin and resistance to disease, its blood and all forms of bodily fluid are considered a Class L-4 Biohazard, and must be cleaned, or drained with sterile means and equipment to prevent outbreak of highly-resistant pathogens and bacteria. All tissue samples taken from SCP-4483 must be handled on-site.

SCP-4483 are considered parasitoid creatures, after initial research determined instances of SCP-4483 outwith those in containment, not to be social predators. SCP-4483 secretes pheromones from its jawbone gland, similar in effect to a mild androstadienone produced during the mammalian "fight or flight instinct". Pheromone is absorbed through the skin, as well as through inhalation. Within seconds, intended victims note a sense of calm, and become more suggestible. SCP-4483 has been observed to mimic human vocalizations, though this trait is, for reasons yet unknown, limited to adolescent instances. Adolescent SCP-4483 members will emit sounds of distress, such as wailing, cries of pain or other such sounds to draw attention to itself. The manner in which SCP-4483 tracks its victims is poorly understood, but it is suggested that SCP-4483 is able to perceive refraction in light particles through its outer layer of tissue (see Test Log 4483-1 for further details). The nature of this light-based perception would appear to grant SCP-4483 the ability to identify potential victims at long range and in low-light.

Once close proximity with an intended victim has been made, SCP-4483 will seek to establish skin contact - typically near the head, causing immediate infection of tissues underlying the outer epidermis via an unidentified parasite. Within two to five minutes, infection spreads toward the cerebellum, causing immediate neuropathic decay. SCP-4483 will then 'feed' on the victim's skin, utilizing the nutrients to regrow its own. SCP-4483's keratin shell is remarkably durable, showing resistance to puncturing, armor-piercing firearms and sustained head from an oxyacetylene torches. The shell is weaker and more akin to a membrane, presumable to allow for articulation of the limbs.

Discovery:

SCP-4483 was discovered on January 18th, 198█ in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Located within a drydocked shrimp cutter, registered as Mint Julep to one Horatio Lawrence Arthur of Queen Charlotte, British Colombia. Vessel entered UK waters illegally during a storm, and beached near the English village of Roosebeck. Vessel was discovered by children visiting the nearby campground and entered by three youths. Law enforcement was called when the youths were reported missing. The Foundation was alerted to the vessel when both reporting officers failed to return. Area surrounding the boat was cordoned off under the implication that the ship was illegally carrying leaking hazardous waste. All four members of SCP-4483 were found inside, badly-emaciated and in a partial state of healing. The bodies of all five victims were discovered partially-excoriated, and further mutilated by Foundation agents before being returned to their families. Cause of death was stated to be severe chemical burns and acute poisoning. Taking the vessel into Foundation custody, few items of importance were discovered aboard. Beyond typical fishing equipment, the then-captain's personal effects were found in a waterlogged lockbox, including the ship's log and crew manifest, revealing the circumstances which brought it to the United Kingdom (see Addendum 4483). After ascertaining the ship was free from anomalous phenomena, the vessel was broken up for scrap.
