Lucky Penny
Object Class: See Most Recent Addendum

Containment procedures: SCP-1943 shall be kept around a small research facility in an abandoned public baseball field in Ohio. No one inside the facility is to know what SCP-1943 is, the locations of its instances, or how it functions. Discovery and holding of any instance of SCP-1943 will result in Keter Status of the object. If

Description: A series of eleven identical United States steel wheat pennies from 1943. The pennies will appear in a rough circle spanning anywhere from a few meters to around 800 kilometers. The observed multiple “pennies” are in fact one singular object displaced in space. At any given time, the ratio of heads to tails will either be 6:5 or 5:6. If the ratio is to ever change, though it never has, {REDACTED}. Chemical composition of the object is unclear; testing has shown the object reacts to chemicals and stimuli as a non-anomalous 1943 steel wheat penny is expected to, though observation of the penny’s atomic composition under microscope reveals that the object is composed of exactly 34.1 metric grams of pure elemental copper per instance.

Notes (not sure if this should be addendums or part of the initial report):
Object instances are ONLY found in public areas. Apparent instances of the object indoors and/or on private properties are Not SCP-1943 and should under NO CIRCUMSTANCES be approached. If an instance of SCP appears to be in any such place, contact your nearest superior and evacuate the presence.
The area and all subsequent life within the perimeter of 1943 will experience a quantifiable increase or decrease of “luck” depending on the ratio of heads to tails in that instance
If a heads up instance is picked up, the initial effect of 1943 will cease. Instead, the holder of the instance will have their own “luck” increased exponentially and with no known limit. It is recommended that the penny (now SCP1943-2) be taken from the holder or the holder themself be neutralized as soon as possible. After a certain “luck” threshold, neutralization becomes nearly impossible.
The inverse is also true. If an individual picks up a tails up instance of 1943, their “luck” will decrease exponentially. These holders are much easier to neutralize, though neutralization should still be done as quickly as possible.
If another individual is to pick up an inverted instance of SCP1943-2 (ie, a tails if 1943-2 is heads) all instances of SCP 1943 will reconfigure and the holders will {redacted…} The scent of gunpowder will not dissipate and the area will experience slight radial decay. The pennies will have moved to another random location. The heads to tails ratio will be changed.
Evidence of a possible 12th instance of the penny has been discovered, though it seems
to have been neutralized (run through a novelty coin press in Branson, Missouri)
The presence of a majority heads up instance of 1943 seems to help negate the anomalous properties of non-living scps, such as the similarly appearing SCP-2534 slightly

Backburner ideas

  • An abandoned swimming pool (short story to be adapted into scp)
  • Diner in the desert (also short story adaptation)
  • A letter opener which causes any envelope opened by it to bleed the user’s blood, though no internal or external damage is done to the user, and no decrease in the user’s blood volume is detectable. Either the knife causes the envelope to spontaneously form blood, or it acts as a portal that maims some other dimensional instance of the user. accidental misplacement of the object has caused several accidental summonings by contaminating runes on opened documents with blood.
