Curiosity

"So, we've almost reached the end eh?" I said, sipping out of his whisky casket.

"Yup" sighed Dr. Clef, "We've gone up to SCP-5998. As far as I know, no signs of an SCP-5999"

"Same" I chuckled, "I wonder if the O5 is hiding something from us, from me!"

"Who knows and who cares!" sighed Clef, "It's not like it matters"

"True" there was a long silence afterwards. It had been a struggling time for the foundation. The "Sixth Series" as some call it have left everyone dazed and confused. Leaving more and more questions such as,

"How?"

"When?"

"What?"

"Why?"

"Ight, imma head out" heaved Dr. Clef sitting up from his chair.

"Night Clef" I called.

"G'night O5-5" he called back.

We retired to our offices, they were ready to relax. I rode the elevator from Light Containment to Sector Romeo, went through the Administrative Offices, rode the elevator down further into the Earth, and walked into my office. As I entered, I realized how much chaos I had gone through during Series-VI. Loads of papers were stacked throughout my offices, wrappers of microwaveable, fast-making foods were lying around. I sighed, I wanted to clean up but I had gone through the whole day without seeing a single MEME. A sat down on my chair, happy to finally relax.

I loaded up my computer surprised to see that there had been a file added to the Series-VI collection.

"SCP-5999?" I thought, "Is it… finally here?"

I opened it up and sure enough, there it was, an un-viewed SCP-5999 file. I was rather suprised to see it was accessable to all clearances. Most of the SCPs in this Series have been Level-[4] through Level-[O5]. Slightly excited, I opened the file.

I saw in white letters flashing in a red box, in all caps saying: "WARNING: DO NOT CONTINUE"

I chuckled and sang to myself, "Don't stop me now!" I opened the file seeing what wonders awaited me.

I found myself confused…

My computer's screen had turned into one of those old retro TV things. The page of the SCP was even more confusing. It's background color was a dark, almost dead like chrome.

I could see the SCP-Foundation symbol glowing a haunting yellow, bellow it, also in yellow, and in a box, read:

[The above is instrumental to proper containment. Proceed]

What caught my eye the most was the image above the box. An image of Seven Candles.

Well nonetheless, I decided to obey and proceeded by clicking the box.

Every word was glowing yellow.

It read…

Item Number null

Object Class: CONTAINED

"Hold on… contained?" I thought, "Isn't that what almost every SCP is… contained? So, why give this SCP the object class contained when literally… you know what never mind"

The file's special containment procedures didn't interest me as much as I hoped. I just kind of skimmed through out. It was saying something about witnesses and a place called Albright Manor?

When I reached the bottom, there was another box that read:

Description

CAUTION!

DO NOT PROCEED!

"You think that's gonna stop me?" I laughed as I clicked on the box.

I was greeted with the same format as the page before with the pictures of the candles… but something was off.

There were seven lit candles…

Now there's only six.

Before I started reading… I heard something, behind me just vaguely. It sounded like… some kind of metal. I turned around of course to find nothing. I thought nothing of it and once again skimmed through the file.

"Not as interesting as I hoped" I sighed, "What's the deal with the candles?" I reached the bottom to once again be greeted with another box that read:

Exploration

CAUTION!

DO NOT CONTINUE!

Like before I disregarded the warning and continued.

Five

Only five lit candles.

"Normal, probably normal" I thought.

Then…

I heard it…

again…

The clanking of metal followed by a faint quiet whisper. I got up out of my chair. I pulled out my revolver, it's gold letters shown in the darkness of my office. I walked up to the back window and looked through. Below me was the ice mining machinery at work, still trying to dig up the Brute I sighed and face palmed myself.

"Come on O5-5" I chuckled, "Pull yourself together, just the machines!" I sat back down and continued, bursting at the seams with curiosity.

With each entering of the next page…

Another candle…

Died out…

"Two…" I said to myself skimming to the bottom. This time they were talking about tests. I saw the aftermath of D-00002, "Nasty"

When I reached the bottom, I saw something that made me highly concerned. The box read:

Recovered Evidence

DANGER!

CONTAINMENT BREACH IMMINENT!

"Wait breach imminent?!" I thought, "How does looking at a file cause a near breach?!" Of course, being a naive O5, I clicked and continued…

One…

Candle…

One candle left.

My office was humming with electricity, my computer's fan was on high, and I was sweating so much, it looked like I took a swim in the magical pool.
