Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3879 is to be contained inside of a standard issue abnormality containment cell that has been fully equipped with soundproof walls. When not being tested upon SCP-3879 should also be kept inside of a tight fitting clear plastic box. The area around this box must remain coated in at least 6 inches of soft foam.
SCP Foundation personnel are only to transfer SCP-3879 inside of its plastic case, with the approval of a member of the 05 council, and while equipped with military-grade earmuffs. Any SCP foundation personnel attempting to make contact with SCP-3879 are to be incapacitated and sent to the psychiatric ward. If the effects of SCP-3879 cannot be reversed the affected individual is to be terminated immediately.
Description: SCP-3879 is a slightly worn leather basketball measuring 72.39 cm in circumference; However, the “leather” from which SCP-3879 is made is believed to have belonged only to SCP-3879. SCP-3879 was discovered in ██████████ after three children went missing for a period of 29 hours before being discovered in a nearby wood. Two of the children were found dead. They are believed to have died in a fight for possession of SCP-3879. The third child was found next to the two corpses curled around SCP-3879 crying out in pain. When they were discovered by police forces in the area a foundation operative working inside the police force contacted the foundation and transferred SCP-3879 to ██████████.
Any exposure to sounds created directly by SCP-3879 will cause the immediate increase of heart rate, tingling in and around the hands, and an extreme sensation of attraction towards SCP-3879 on par with a need to come into contact with it. Previous victims such as Dr.████ have been able to recover. However, others have been shown to be resistant to treatment.
After a subject (human or otherwise) begins to experience attraction towards SCP-3879 they will desperately attempt to make physical contact with it. They are willing to harm both themselves and others in order to reach SCP-3879. At this stage, victims will cease all speech and nonverbal communication
If a subject is able to make contact with SCP-3879 they with proceed to curl around SCP-3879 in a fetal-like position. After a minute of this, the skin of the victim will begin to fuse to itself to SCP-3879. If the victim is wearing any clothing that is blocking the connection between SCP-3897 and it’s intended victim SCP-3879 will secrete a brown liquid which causes the clothing to break down in a fashion similar to a wet tissue, as well as doing some damage to the victim. This substance has been labeled SCP-3897-1 and is undergoing testing. As this process continues the initial effects of SCP-3879 dissipate and the victim becomes aware of what is happening to them.
SCP-3879 will continue to deform victims until their new form completely engulfs SCP-3879. Although the brain and organs of those encased SCP-3879 are shown to be non-functional the individual cells will remain alive. The cells decrease in number over time, presumably absorbed into SCP-3879. The only known way to remove these cells in by eroding, burning, or otherwise destroying them; however, this may cause damage to SCP-3879. Because of this 05-█ has mandated that all tests on SCP-3879 must be approved by at least one member of the 05 council.
Addendum- 3879-02:
After staff attempted to draw a tissue sample from SCP-3879 it was discovered that it is impervious to blades. Tests were performed with fire and acid which gave similar results. The restriction imposed by 05-█ has been lowered to class 4 approval.

00:01- Subject is instructed to bounce SCP-3879 one time and then set the ball inside of its box.
00:11- Subject obliges, audio-visual recording begins.
00:57- Subject steps towards SCP-3879.
01:01- Subject starts to move towards SCP-3879 but stops short of opening the case.
01:14- Subject opens the box and holds SCP-3879 staring at it intensely, this persists.
02:32- Subject clutches SCP-3879 closely to their chest.
2:52- Subject curls up on the floor still clutching SCP-3879 and begins to breathe heavily.
04:12- Subjects skin is observed to begin to fuse together and to SCP-3879. Heavy breathing stops.
04:22- SCP-3879 begins to secrete SCP-3879-1, saturating the victims clothing and beginning to pool on the floor.
04:49- Subject begins to ask what is happening as if they have woken up after a blackout.
05:15- Subject begins to plead for help. Extreme pain is reported, this persists with pleas growing more desperate over time. The limbs are now conjoined.
06:01- Subject begins to become aggravated. The neck is conjoined to SCP-3879. What remains of the victims clothing falls off due to the front having been disintegrated by SCP-3879-1.
06:34- The mouth has fused shut. Muffled screams are heard. The secretion of SCP-3879-1 stops.
07:27- Subject lurches forward. Their skin begins to stretch rapidly over SCP-3879 at a rate of approximately 10 cm each minute. The muffled screams grow more frantic then abruptly stop.
15:00- The testing chamber is opened and D-5284 searches the remains of the subject for a pulse with a stethoscope. Nothing is found.
15:53- Tissue samples are taken.
16:32- Staff exit the area and an equipped guard is sent to remove the subjects remains from SCP-3879.

Addendum- 3879-04:
Analysis of SCP 3879-1 has shown it to be comprised of a liquid with a similar chemical makeup to pancreatic juice, as well as a variety of partially digested tissues. This has led foundation staff to believe that SCP-3879 digests its victims and SCP-3879-1 aids in this process.
Addendum- 3879-05:
SCP-3879 had been moved to ███████████ following the transfer of ███████████ to ███████████. SCP-3879 will be returned on ████████. Testing on SCP-3879 has been prohibited by 05-█ until it returns to █████████████.
