Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the high profile nature of the area surrounding SCP-XXXX, a 10 square mile exclusion zone has been erected around it's location, under the guise of a quarantine1 by the French government due to high arsenic levels found in the soil. This exclusion zone is to be regularly patrolled by Foundation personnel disguised as French military police. If Non-Foundation Personnel persist on intruding despite warnings, Foundation personnel are to capture them and administer Class-C amnestics, whereby the intruder shall then be removed from the site premises. Lethal force is authorized for particularly persistent intruders, but is discouraged in the interests of maintaining the secrecy of the exclusion zone.
The entrances to SCP-XXXX are to be contained by hermetically-sealed doors. The main flue and other airways leading out of SCP-XXXX have been sealed with concrete, and are to be routinely checked for airflow. No Foundation personnel are permitted inside SCP-XXXX without Foundation certified hazmat gear. Any living thing directly exposed to SCP-XXXX-1 without proper gear is to be terminated and incinerated immediately.
The inside of SCP-XXXX is to be wired with remote incendiary charges, capable of sustaining temperatures of no less than 1000 degrees Celsius for sixty seconds. Remote detonators have been installed at several locations within the exclusion zone, and are to be manned by Foundation personnel at all times. Furthermore, a fail safe detonator has been linked to a sensor specially designed to detect instances of SCP-XXXX-6. Should an instance of SCP-XXXX-6 be detected by the sensor, the charges will automatically detonate. In the event of an incendiary detonation, the entrances and airways are to be resealed as quickly as possible.
Concept:
- Anomalous gas canister/cache of gas canisters
- Object Classification - Probably Safe if the canisters are intact/can be contained in airtight containers
- Origins:
- WWI battleground bunker, unearthed by French gov't in 1998 (redact the exact year) during an attempt to excavate/preserve historic sections of the Ypres (probably redact this) battlefield. Bunker was German, but found buried deep. Part of German chemical weapons development, so likely to use a particularly cold/unempathetic chemist experimenting with compounds in the bunker. Experiments going on in the bunker so as to minimize friendly casualties in the event of a mishap, for the ease of available test subjects (wounded/captured French, and maybe even German soldiers), and for the ability to rapidly deploy new strains of chemicals on the battlefield. Germany desperate for a victory, so highest echelons of German political authority have authorized testing without restrictions on live human subjects. Most of this information uncovered via a relatively intact journal from the German doctor.
Description: SCP-XXXX was initially discovered in 199█ by surveyors hired by the French government, tasked with reviewing and updating the safety classifications of the former World War I battleground and attached trench systems near the city of █████. According to reports from Foundation personnel implanted within government agencies, the survey team was authorized to explore the trench systems as well as any connected bunkers, and to assess health of said fortifications for historical preservation efforts. All eight (8) members of the original survey team became instances of SCP-XXXX-6 during their exploration of SCP-XXXX, and were later terminated and incinerated by Foundation personnel.
SCP-XXXX is a bunker system containing a cache of metallic, cylindrical, canisters containing five (5) anomalous gaseous substances, henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-1 - 5. The vast majority of the bunker system resides 100 meters below the surface, well below WWI-standard bunker levels of 30-40 meter depths.
The original purpose of the bunker, according to the diary of it's caretaker, one Dr. Johann Ehrlich, was to develop and test the efficacy of new chemical weapons close to the front, such that they might be deployed strategically during trench raids in small quantities. The bunker was dug so deep to shield it from artillery fire as well as to limit the possibility of contaminating a significant portion of German lines in the event of a chemical mishap.
The bunker consists of a stairwell leading to a 10m x 10m x 3m space adjoined by several smaller rooms. The initial space (henceforth referred to as The Lab) contains various chemical testing paraphernalia spread out across several wooden tables, a small cache of small arms munitions in a crate, five (5) Gewehr 98 rifles, a full German Army lieutenant-colonel's uniform, a doctor's frock, and era-appropriate chemical safety gear.
Immediately upon descending the stairs and turning left, a wooden door leads to a small living quarters, within which rests a bed, a trunk containing various articles of clothing (presumed to belong to Dr. Ehrlich), several wooden pieces of furniture, and formerly Dr. Ehrlich's journal.
Directly across from the stairwell is a glass window allowing observation into a testing room, which is connected to the main room via a small metal hatch. Within the observation room is a gurney bolted to the wooden floor, and a ventilation shaft in the ceiling connected to a primitive negative pressure system.
On the far right side of The Lab is a wooden door leading to an area containing twenty (20) small cells. The cells walls and floors are smeared with traces of dried feces and blood, and some have phrases like "Never get out", [REDACTED], and "It's in the air" scrawled in blood on the walls.
The entrance to final room in SCP-XXXX is located in the far right corner of The Lab, and contains a shelving system with five (5) different types of canisters on them. These canisters are estimated to number in the hundreds, and all still appear to be hermetically sealed. Several locations where canisters should be are empty, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the locations of these canisters, or if they exist at all. On the floor immediately to the right of entering this storage area is a metal hatch, which upon opening reveals [REDACTED].
