An example of SCP-XXXX-B

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a storage locker at Site 34, under typical room conditions (temperature: 22C, humidity: 45%). Any requests for access should be taken directly to Dr. Heimdall. SCP-XXXX is to remain closed, save for weekly inspections by Dr. Heimdally for any anomalous behaviors.

Recovery details: SCP-XXXX was obtained from the dorm room of Rick ██████ after a video of SCP-XXXX-B’s effects surfaced online, taken by Sam ██████. Following Incident XXXX-1, appropriate amnesics were applied to the people involved. All are to be kept under occasional surveillance to ensure the confidentiality of the incident. Transcripts of Rick ██████ and Sam ██████ psychotherapy sessions are to be delivered directly to Dr. Heimdall.

Description: SCP-XXXX is 4.19g of psilocybin mushrooms, held within a small oak puzzle box measuring 10cm on each edge, with a uniform 1.5cm wall. There is also a small note, written on 55gsm paper. It measures 10cm x 10cm but is always folded twice, reducing the size to 5cm x 5cm. The note is written in English block letters, reading:

R,

Enjoy. Pay attention to B2.

T.

In order to open the box, a small sliding mechanism must be moved approximately 2cm to the right, which instantly causes the lid to swing open. There is no sign of traditional mechanisms or springs in the box, save for two butt hinges which hold the lid in place when opened. The box is denoted SCP-XXXX-A, the mushrooms referenced as SCP-XXXX-B, and the note as SCP-XXXX-C.

When SCP-XXXX-B or SCP-XXXX-C is removed from SCP-XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX-A will instantly shut, impervious to any attempts to keep it open. Experiments causing damage to SCP-XXXX-A are not permitted, due to the unknown effects, Safe Class, and SCP-XXXX-B’s uses. SCP-XXXX-B or SCP-XXXX-C will dissapear after remaining outside of SCP-XXXX-A after approximately 5 to 10 hours, or after exiting a 50-mile radius from SCP-XXXX-A’s location. SCP-XXXX-B undergoes rapid deterioration and decomposition, turning into a fine powder that contains no anomalous properties. SCP-XXXX-C turns into the same power, but instead seems to smolder and burn, but emits no heat while doing so. Attempts to extinguish SCP-XXXX-C have been unuseful.

While separated from its components, SCP-XXXX-A locks, and the sliding mechanism to open the lid disappears. As soon as SCP-XXXX-B or SCP-XXXX-C dissolve, SCP-XXXX-A can be reopened, always containing SCP-XXXX-B and SCP-XXXX-C. SCP-XXXX-C is always identical to its previous state, but SCP-XXXX-B changes state, and takes the form of a random number of mushrooms, always weighing exactly 4.19g.

An example of SCP-XXXX-B

Studies of SCP-XXXX-B have shown it to be most genetically and visually similar to Psilocybe cyanescens, containing the same average amount of phycobilin and psilocin. Trace amounts of a third compound, structurally similar to psilocin, can be found in SCP-XXXX-B. Any change in the state or chemical makeup of SCP-XXXX-B causes it to lose its psychoactive properties, and SCP-XXXX-A instantly “resets”.

Consumption of SCP-XXXX-B is to be strictly regulated and cleared by Dr. Heimdall at least 24 hours prior and requires direct supervision of Dr. Heimdall for the duration of SCP-XXXX-B’s effects. Users additionally need psychiatric clearance beforehand and must report all effects and hallucinations to Dr. Heimdall. Psychiatric therapy is strongly recommended after consuming SCP-XXXX-B.

Unlike traditional psychoactive mushrooms, the effects of SCP-XXXX-B does not vary due to factors such as body weight, external chemicals, previous tolerance, or mental health state. The effects of SCP-XXXX-B only varies with the amount consumed orally. Attempts to use SCP-XXXX-B as an intravenous substance has proven unsuccessful. SCP-XXXX-B will negate any effects of other psychoactive substances, including, but not limited to: other psychedelic mushrooms and substances, benzodiazepines, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and stimulants.

The effects of SCP-XXXX-B after consumption can be separated into four distinct phases, denoted P-0 through P-3. P-0 begins directly after oral consumption. Consumption of 0.1g or less will show no effects, but anything above will, including 0.15g. Long-term side effects are yet to be explored, but there are no recorded short-terms effects, save for stomach pains, headache, nausea, and sleepiness. The external effects and durations are listed below.

Phase Duration Effects
P-0 10-20 minutes The effects of other psychoactive substances are reduced and then removed. Patients on a dose of LSD, for example, instantly become fully sober. Once this is attained, P-1 begins.
P-1 15-30 minutes The patient falls asleep, remaining at the REM stage for the entirety of P-1. Brain activity and basic vitals are normal for REM sleep.
P-2 30-240 minutes The duration of P-2 directly varies to the amount of SCP-XXXX-B consumed. A minimal dose (~0.1g) results in a 30 minute P-2, and a maximal dose (4.19g) results in an exactly 240 minute (4 hour) P-2. These durations are standard across patients, with a minimal variation of 10 seconds. Incident XXXX-1, transcribed below, demonstrates P-2. Brain activity is nominal for REM sleep, but heart rate increases by 20-30%. Eye movements cannot be determined due to the nature of P-2.
P-3 60-100 minutes The patient falls back asleep, to levels similar to, if not exactly the same as, P-1. The patient reawakens after P-3 ends.

Patients are fully aware of their auditory surroundings during P-1 and P-3, and describe the sensation of being similar to a sensory-deprivation tank, with auditory stimuli sounding “muted” or “underwater”. Patients have been shown to recall exact sentences and topics introduced, sounds played, or numbers to memorize. Stimuli in P-1 or P-3 has no discernible effect on P-2.

During P-2, a hallucinogenic entity appears to the patient. The entity seems to be sentient, remembering patients from previous experiences, and capable of advanced communication in English. The entity always appears the same, taking the form of an approximately 175cm humanoid caucasian male, with wrinkles suggestive of someone 50-60 years of age. He speaks with an accent described as “neutral”. Attempts to ask the entity of his age, history, or name results in noncommittal answers. These “conversations” last for the duration of P-2, and topics range on anything the patient desires. The entity has encompassing knowledge of current events, history, politics, mathematics, chemistry, literature, culture, and technology. Speaking with it feels “relaxing” or “calming”, according to patients.

This all occurs in the patient’s mind. Externally, the patient’s eyes are stuck open, acting as high-intensity light sources, releasing approximately 150,000 lumens. The light emerges as volumetric and conical, with an approximate conical radius of 50degrees. The light causes no measurable changes in temperature or energy, and these visible effects of SCP-XXXX-B are unknown to the user.

Incident XXXX-1
On 05/26/██, a video was taken of a student at █████ School in ██████, CA, under the influence of SCP-XXXX-B. The video is 45 seconds long.
