Cracks in the Pages

Item #: SCP-5064

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5064 is to be kept in a two inch thick metal box in a vault in Sector-██. The object poses no threat unless in contact with bare skin, protective gear should be worn at all times while handling SCP-5064. At no point should SCP-5064 be read, those who do read it will be terminated.

Description: SCP-5064 is an old book with a brown hardcover. The amount of pages the book contains is unknown, but is estimated to be around three-hundred. When SCP-5064 comes in contact with bare flesh, the person (referred to as SCP-5064-1 or “The Reader” after contact is made) after touching seems to be non-existent. While SCP-5064-1 is still present in the world, any other individual seems to forget any trace of SCP-5064-1’s existence, and is oblivious to any attempt of contact SCP-5064-1 tries to make with an said individual. Prolonged periods away from SCP-5064 result in The Reader to rapidly decrease in body temperature. The Reader reports to observe the world to be slowly freezing, or for immense amounts of snow or ice to be present during prolonged disclosure to SCP-5064. If SCP-5064-1 is holding SCP-5064 and not reading it, SCP-5064 will begin to burn SCP-5064-1. The contents of SCP-5064 are described to be of conspiracy theories, cryptids, cults, and other odd occurrences (SCP-████ was reported of being present in a chapter of the book). As the book goes on, the contents of the book become darker and morbid. Eventually, SCP-5064-1 will experience signs of insanity, schizophrenia, or depression. This will inevitably lead to the suicide of SCP-5064-1, which will then prompt the book to revert to a docile state. The book will not return to a docile state until SCP-5064-1 has been terminated. Attempts to have SCP-5064 read and summarized have been made, but upon reading and/or hearing the summarizations of a chapter, the individual experiences the effects of SCP-5064, and are determined as SCP-5064-1.
