Picture taken of SCP-XXXX during early phases of secondary containment testing
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be secured within a vacuum- sealed, austenitic stainless-steel container measuring approximately 1.0m. Access to SCP-XXXX is permitted to all Level-2 personnel wearing proper cryogenic safety gear.
SCP-XXXX is to be suspended in a lead-lined, insulated containment cell using high-powered magnetic plates, completely separated from contact with any surfaces or other objects. SCP-XXXX is not to be exposed to any form of radiation, heat, electrical arcs, direct physical contact, or any other kinetic energy sources that could potentially supply energy to SCP-XXXX. The interior of the containment cell housing SCP-XXXX must be kept at temperatures near absolute zero with absolutely no exposure to any form of radiation including visible light. All tests regarding SCP-XXXX have since been ceased in order to reduce excessive energy exposure to the object.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a black, spherical object measuring approximately 70.13cm in diameter and weighing 19.90kg. The object was discovered in an impact crater in Death Valley, California on ██/██/20██ among the debris of a [DATA EXPUNGED], the remains of which are to be contained separately from SCP-XXXX on site ██. The surface of SCP-XXXX is entirely black; capable of absorbing approximately 99.99972% of all visible light. This extremely low level of reflection gives SCP-XXXX an almost two-dimensional appearance similar to that of a black hole.
The surface of SCP-XXXX is extremely cold, with both dramatic changes in ambient temperature and direct application of intense heat proving ineffective in changing the surface temperature of the object1. All attempts to record the surface temperature of SCP-XXXX have resulted in inconclusive data, however the ambient temperature immediately surrounding SCP-XXXX consistently reads at a temperature near absolute zero, with an average reading of -270.0°C to -272.3°C. Attempts to take samples from the surface of SCP-XXXX for molecular composition testing have proven ineffective. Attempts to alter the object in any way have proven unsuccessful. Following the events of Experiment 6.A, hereby referred to as (UNNAMED EVENT), all further tests regarding SCP-XXXX have been ceased.
SCP-XXXX has the ability to completely absorb all forms of kinetic energy. It is currently unknown if there is any method to destroy or alter SCP-XXXX in any way, as even exposure to extreme heat and physical force has no noticeable effect on its structural integrity2. It is unknown how much potential energy is stored within SCP-XXXX. Although steps have been taken to dramatically reduce energy exposure to SCP-XXXX, it is currently unknown if these measures will have any effect on the severity or frequency of (UNNAMED EVENT).
