Special Containment Procedures: TEMPORARY PROCEDURES AS OF %%updated_at|%d/%m/%Y%% UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE - Scranton reality anchors installed 1498.5m below sea level at 37.7333° N, 121.8317° E; 36.7333° N, 122.8317° E; 35.7333° N, 121.8317° EE and 36.7333° N, 120.8317° EE are to be focused on: 11.3733° N, 142.5917° E 36.7333° N, 121.8317° E. The anchors must receive routine examinations every 72 hours and if damage has been sustained, they are to be repaired or replaced immediately.
HMS Crichton has been appropriated from the Royal Navy and is being established to serve as a base of operations for managing SCP-????. A perimeter of surface patrols of the sea in a 5km radius of the site is being maintained as well as constant active sonar and passive sonic scanning of the ocean to ensure containment.
Until the risk of the anomaly is discerned, marine patrol drones equipped with radar capabilities and Spearfish class heavyweight torpedoes are permitted to use lethal force to ensure no unauthorised access. All admission is to be cleared only by subdivision Director Barnes of TeSpAn, or a member of the Overseer Council.
The general public, news media, and international government bodies have been fed news of an oil spill. The United States government and Unusual Incidents Unit have been made aware of the discovery due to their required cooperation for a smooth containment process.
As per UAO-ΥΦ-19's procedures, any further non-foundation exploration of Monterey Canyon has been dissuaded by embedded agents in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC).
Previous Foundation records of UAO-ΥΦ-19 have been redacted and redirected here to allow avoid misinformation.
Description: SCP-???? is an experimental deep-sea living environment and research station located in the Monterey Canyon; 1498.5km below sea level, at 11.3733° N, 142.5917° E. Contact with the living pod was lost, and subsequently, the pod itself remained undetectable by conventional means. Measurements suggest the site of the pod became the focal point of a minor spacetime disruption.
SCP-???? was initially constructed as part of the Valkyria research program as a joint venture of NOAA and EMBRC and several other national and transnational entities, following the detection of an unidentified, rhythmic signal occurring in the proximity of the station.
The station itself is constructed of a single, spherical chamber of 50m radius, constructed of high-density steel, reinforced glass, fiberglass, and mineral wool shells which house eight concentrically separated layers housing purpose-built rooms for living and research.
Initially, the submerged station was able to communicate via fiber optic cable with the 'HMS Crichton'; a custom, merchant class aircraft carrier based on the RRS class ships, constructed by the British Royal Navy in collaboration with the project. However, after losing communication with Dr. Blackwell (who due to the imminent hurricane remained the only occupant of Valkyria-1 at the time) this cable was found to be severed approximately 1000 metres below sea level. During the hurricane, the HMS Crichton was docked and remained ported when the Valkria project was discontinued.
Discovery: The anomaly can be assumed to have occurred either on, shortly before, or following 10/07/2003 when communication the Valkyria pod was lost during hurricane Isabel. Thanks to foundation agents embedded in the project, news of the potentially anomalous nature remained censored.
Foundation misinformation portrayed that due to underwater currents caused by the hurricane, the submerged environment was destroyed by geological activity.
The last known location of the Valkyria-1 was scanned with multibeam echo-sounders, but no trace of the base was found. A minor temporospatial disturbance resulting in a small radius of dilated time was found in its place.
The location was named UAO-ΥΦ-19 and due to its relatively inert and isolated location, it was never deemed necessary to receive SCP designation due to infeasibility of access for research or formal containment. Discouragement of further exploration by and TeSpAn monitoring were deemed suitable procedures, subject to constant review.
Following advancement in deep-sea exploration availability for both private corporations, governments, and individuals; a foundation-led expedition to research the anomaly was finally deemed viable. On %%updated_at|%d/%m/%Y%%, explorative research mission CD-14 was approved by director Barnes.
Upon reaching the location of the anomaly on %%updated_at|%d/%m/%Y%%, however, the Valkyria-1 was rediscovered, entirely intact. The seemingly still functional pod contained what appears to be the severely decayed body of Dr. Andrea Blackwood (identification pending), the sole inhabitant of the Valkyria-1 at the time of its disappearance, along with extensive audio logs recorded by Dr. Blackwood which are pending analysis.
Below is a transcript of the recordings discovered in SCP-???? by explorative research mission CD-12.
