SCP-3253

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3253 is to be contained in a 20 x 20 x 20 meter room made of 1.5" titanium alloy with no less than 15(fifteen)% copper per square meter of titanium. SCP-3253 is to reside on a pedestal made of the same compound as the wall in the exact center of the room, and any attempt to move SCP-3253 from its position is to be met with physical force and immediate reassignment. At least 2 (two) D-class personnel are to remain in the room with SCP-3253 at all times, and must immediately report any change in SCP-3253's behavior through an intercom system to the assigned researchers and guards. The door which leads to SCP-3253 must not be opened under any circumstance unless both D-class personnel are able to individually complete 10 (ten) basic 2 (two) digit multiplication questions within 15 (fifteen) minutes.

Description: SCP-3253 is an unbranded microwave which is 8 x 16 x 14 centimeters and made of an as of now unknown metal a metal compound which is similar in atomic structure to that of the outside walls of SCP-3008. It is currently unknown what relation SCP-3253 has with SCP-3008, and currently no attempts are being made to find out due to the extreme difficulty in exploring SCP-3008. SCP-3253 is completely grey, with the exception of a clear glass window, not found on other microwaves due to the inability of glass to stop microwaves. SCP-3253 does not emit any microwaves whatsoever, even less than the standard that are detectable on regular microwaves. SCP-3253 is unable to be activated, and no attempts have been made to deconstruct SCP-3253 due to the effects of remaining within close proximity of it.

SCP-3253 was first acquired by the Foundation on ██/██/19██ when a family residing in the U.S. state of ████ reported a feeling of "constant lightheadedness" shortly after purchasing SCP-3253 from their local Ikea. It should be noted that this is NOT the same Ikea as SCP-3008 as this Ikea was shut down in 2007 and an apartment complex has since taken its place. The family was found to have all lost 13% of the blood from their body. The family had reportedly not been involved in any accidents and had no genetic defects that could have attributed to this high loss of blood. The family reported that drops of blood could be found on the stove directly below the microwave, and the interior of the microwave produced a very strong odor which smelled very similar to iron. The Foundation quickly seized the microwave and provided a financial compensation of $150 USD to the family.

The Foundation team which retrieved SCP-3253 and brought it to site-11 reported feeling "dizzy" and an inability to walk in a straight line for more than "a few feet". Medical examinations revealed that all 4 team members had lost 13%, 16%, 12%, and 17% of their blood respectively. These preliminary events were enough to determine that simply being within close proximity to SCP-3253 was a danger to an individuals health, and as such a 20m exclusion zone was set up around SCP-3253. After testing 322 different compounds of metals, it was found that an alloy of 85% titanium and 15% copper was the most effective at blocking the effects of SCP-3253, however nothing has yet been able to completely stop its effects.

The effects of SCP-3253 do not take place immediately, and further testing revealed that subjects did not suffer any blood loss or other adverse effects until entering within 10m of SCP-3253. Furthermore, blood loss does not occur at the same time for all subjects, and the quickest time symptoms were reported was 3 minutes and 32 seconds, while the slowest time was 11 minutes and 12 seconds. TUS (time until symptomatic) varies each time a subject is exposed to SCP-3253 and as of ██/██20██ no two times have ever been exactly the same down to the second.

Blood loss level also varies dramatically, ranging from 0.755mL/min to 0.946L/min. This means that the effects of SCP-3253 may not be felt for a few hours, but may also be felt within less than 60 seconds. Subjects blood levels return to normal amount at a seemingly random rate as well, and has no connection to the rate of blood loss. Some subjects had their blood return to normal levels within several minutes, while others had their blood replenished at such a slow rate that it may as well have not been replenishing whatsoever.

It is currently unknown where the blood that SCP-3253 draws end up, however the best supported theory suggests that inside SCP-3253 is an interdimensional portal which the blood travels through before being dumped into an alternate universe. No evidence currently exists to support this theory, and it is most likely false. Another theory hypothesizes that the blood is put into the body of a randomly selected human on earth, similar to how SCP-819 operates. No evidence supported this theory and worldwide observations of Polycythemia vera cases had not reported any anomalies until 07/██/20██.

On 07/██/20██, a man in the Guangxi province of the People's Republic of China was admitted to hospital after an extreme case of Polycythemia vera. The blood found in his body (AB+) was mixed with trace amounts of O- blood. This incident coincided with a test at site-11 in which a subject was sent into the chamber wearing a suit of lead and kevlar in an unsuccessful attempt to mitigate or nullify the effects of SCP-3253 on the human body within its effective radius. The subject was retrieved and found to have O- blood type. Although not absolute concrete proof, this theory (dubbed "the 819 theory") is the strongest theory and has the most evidence, as such it is the accepted theory until either proven wrong or another theory overrides it.
