SCP-XXXX
Fig. 1: SCP-XXXX
Item # SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be confined within a standard-size personal lockbox, which will be kept in storage on Site-15 unless testing is authorized by the site's Research Director. The Site Director is to approve any access to SCP-XXXX due to the nature surrounding its arrival at the facility. The Site Director and all personnel interacting with SCP-XXXX should remain notified at all times to the location of SCP-XXXX, and under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX or any instance of SCP-XXXX-1-3 be left unattended until it is returned to storage. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1-3 are not allowed to be proliferated without prior authorization for testing purposes, and all instances of SCP-XXXX-1-3 are to be deleted following testing procedure. Access to SCP-XXXX is to be restricted to the Site Director and Research Director for the facility at Site-15.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a 128 GB SanDisk Cruzer Glide USB Flash Drive. The device is completely functional and has no anomalous physical properties. The device arrived at Site-xx, a cover facility for the Foundation located in XXXXX,XX,USA through the mail, arriving in a flat-rate USPS box. The package slip, handwritten in black ink and addressed to "Stegasaurus", featured no return address of any kind. Forensic analysis of the box and device yielded no finger-prints, and meta-data of the files contained on SCP-XXXX also showed no identifying information that could be used to track the package or device. Interviews with USPS delivery personnel and review of processing center manifests returned no information on the origins of the package. Review of security footage does not show the package being delivered via USPS or any other postal carrier. The package, including other packages containing SCP-XXXX, are thus presumed to manifest in the mail room of the facility. Attempts to record this manifestation periodically fail. Cameras are known to malfunction prior to apparition, and individuals stationed to observe for a potential appearance report a lapse of memory before and after the package appears. SCP-XXXX contains three PNG files, hereof listed as SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2, and SCP-XXXX-3. The files depict images of innocuous subjects, and do not seem to cause any debilitating or anomalous effects of any kind.
While originally believed to be a normal device with only curious circumstances for its arrival, the abnormal properties of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 soon began to become apparent to facility staff. Upon disposal of the device, facility staff continuously found it appearing in hallways and atop desks, especially those of site researchers. Staff confirmed the necessity of SCP classification when, upon destruction of the device, a package entirely identical to the original appeared in the facility mailroom. Inside the package was another instance of SCP-XXXX, which contained instances of SCP-XXXX-1-3. Should SCP-XXXX be destroyed, corrupted, or rendered unusable in a way that prevents access to SCP-XXXX-1-3, another package will arrive to the facility through the same circumstances. As previously mentioned, this arrival is impossible to identify or predict, but it usually occurs on average 2-4 business days after the destruction or nullification of SCP-XXXX. Should SCP-XXXX not be destroyed, but rather disposed of or misplaced, it will later manifest in an apparent area, usually those frequented by facility research staff.
Upon testing, researchers confirmed unusual properties of SCP-XXXX-1-3 as well. SCP-XXXX-1-3 cannot be permanently deleted from the device, nor can it be permanently altered. Any attempt to delete the original instance of SCP-XXXX-1-3 will result in the files reappearing upon the following usage of SCP-XXXX. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1-3 may be freely copied and shared, although this is not permitted in any form outside of testing purposes. While copies of SCP-XXXX-1-3 may be permanently deleted, any edits made to copies or the original instances of SCP-XXXX-1-3 will be reverted after the file is reopened a subsequent time. Furthermore, SCP-XXXX-1-3 appear to prefer their assigned order. Any attempt to change sort settings or manually move one file above the other has no effect while stored on SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1-3 are easily contained, and pose no direct threat or illicit harm in any way. It is recommended that the device and the files on it, however, be treated with caution due to the mysterious circumstances surrounding its arrival at Site-xx. Research and testing has not yet found a common link among the subjects of the files, if there is one at all. The purpose of the files remains a conundrum to research staff, as is the nature of the package's addressee "Stegasaurus", an incorrectly spelled form of "Stegosaurus"1.
