Close view of SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All SCP Foundation personnel are required to keep a distance of at least a kilometer from SCP-XXXX. No human or animal is allowed to be within 100m of SCP-XXXX. Security personnel are to monitor SCP-XXXX at all time and also patrol the areas around SCP-XXXX to prevent civilians and animals from entering the restricted area. Subjects found within a kilometer of SCP-XXXX are to be detained, subjects found within 500m of SCP-XXXX are to be terminated. Aerial traffic is to be restricted for further security. Exploration beyond the 500m mark is only to be allowed by a Level 3 Researcher or higher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a time-space anomaly, located in what is known today as "Zone Rouge" in Northeastern France. It covers around 1200 square kilometers of land and has been isolated by the French Government since the end of The First World War. Shortly after the war, the areas in which "Zone Rouge" is found have started to be filled with a white smoke from a currently unknown source, the smoke itself appears to be very dense and to thrive on consuming living beings, such as animals or humans. If subjects are to be found near SCP-XXXX, the smoke will extend to capture the said subjects at speeds that could exceed 50km/h. Experiments using D-Class personnel have concluded that any subject captured by SCP-XXXX will vanish immediately without any trace and the size of SCP-XXXX will increase. Expansion of SCP-XXXX varies from each subject consumed.

Anomalies inside SCP-XXXX are categorized as SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2.SCP-XXXX-1 is to be described as human remains of what appears to be either British or French soldiers of World War I era or their German counterparts. SCP-XXXX-2 are described as machinery, mostly tanks, exclusively from World War I era, such as K-Wagen or all Mark tank variants. SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 present no hostility towards subjects outside the smoke, however the anomalies inside SCP-XXXX appear to always be engaged in a World War I trench style battle and have no will of their own. Sounds can be heard ranging from explosives to tank tracks, no specific human sounds have ever been detected to this day. It is currently unknown how SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 function.

Environment inside SCP-XXXX appears to resemble exactly how the grounds of that area looked during World War I. Outside SCP-XXXX, the environment is normal and no effects have been detected. Anomalies inside SCP-XXXX that "escape" will gradually disappear with more time they spend outside.

Addendum: Test Logs

Foreword: Only the most significant results are to be written. Level 2 access is required for visualisation of the unabridged logs.

Test 1
Subjects: D-XXXX-01
Test: Subject D-XXXX-01 has been sent beyond the 500m mark. Subject observed for 10 minutes.
Results: SCP-XXXX has extended greatly towards subject D-XXXX-01. Subject was recalled to prevent capture from SCP-XXXX.

Test 2
Subjects: D-XXXX-02
Test: Subject D-XXXX-02 has been sent within 100m of SCP-XXXX.
Results: Subject D-XXXX-02 has been caught in less than 30 seconds. No sight of subject D-XXXX-02 is observed. SCP-XXXX has expanded following the capture of subject D-XXXX-02.
Note: It certainly feels like the "smoke" is aware of its surroundings.

Test 3
Subjects: D-XXXX-03
Test: Subject D-XXXX-03 is to be sent inside SCP-XXXX with a camera.
Results: Subject D-XXXX-03 has disappeared almost on sight when it entered SCP-XXXX, the camera itself stopped working the moment in entered SCP-XXXX.As in previous test, SCP-XXXX has expanded in size.
Note: Most likely objects post World War I are rejected or destroyed. We have to try again.

Test 4
Subjects: D-XXXX-04
Test: Subject D-XXXX-04 was assigned to drive a replica of a World War I era truck inside SCP-XXXX.
Results: Subject D-XXXX-04 has stopped abruptly 30 meters inside SCP-XXXX. Subject described for a few seconds feeling "as if it travelled in time" and later described the sound of "tens of thousands of boots in mud approaching his truck". Communication was cut immediately after.
Note: How hasn't he disappeared immediatly? How was he able to communicate with us for this period of time?

Addendum-B: On ██ / ██ /20██ ,an exploration team inside of three World War I replicas Mark V tanks has been sent inside SCP-XXXX to possibly discover the source of the smoke. Upon entering SCP-XXXX, few instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have approached the exploration team but no hostility has been shown. A further inspection has revealed that SCP-XXXX-1 does not feel any kind of pain as bullets and shells would simply knock them down, without killing them. As the team travelled towards the center of SCP-XXXX, almost all members reported feeling "distressed" and "as if they've seen horrors no one could imagine". Communication was cut abruptly afterwards, only just before this it was reported that all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 present nearby the exploration team have [REDACTED]. Until this day, no sign from the exploration team has ever been received.
