A recent instance of SCP-5XXX

Special Containment Procedures: Greetings cards, post cards, and handwritten communications have been banned within 2 km of Site-XX, and will be treated as a potential instance of SCP-5XXX if discovered. Documentation and communication between personnel will be in digital or print formats, and when possible, hermetically sealed. All potential instances of SCP-5XXX are to be contained in a remote document storage locker, 3km north of Site-XX. Additional storage space will be allotted when the volume of SCP-5XXX instances exceed that of its current containment unit. Once every six months, a D-Class personnel will be exposed to the contents of SCP-5XXX.

In event of a containment breach, all site personnel must schedule a mandatory set of psychological evaluations within a month of SCP-5XXX's containment breach. Further evaluations are to be conducted at the discretion of Site-XX's head psychologist or site director.

Description: The SCP-5XXX instance pictured is a recently obtained handmade greeting card, measuring 8cm by 14cm. The cover fold has blue strips of paper horizontally located in the upper third of the card, underneath which is a printed circle on white paper and the phrase "I am here for you always", also print, glued into the circle. Previous instances of SCP-5XXX have included but are not limited to: a 1968 Hallmark Christmas card (model unknown), a pop-up card identical to the sku4184 model American Greetings birthday card, a handwritten letter, and a postcard depicting the first edition cover of the Kurt Vonnegut novel Cat's Cradle. SCP-5XXX will appear in the possession of an individual within 1km 2km 3km of any instance of SCP-5XXX, typically among mail, paperwork, or other such documents. Individuals currently experiencing interpersonal strife, those who suffer from maladaptive social behaviors, and the mentally ill all have an increased likelihood (over 50%) of SCP-5XXX appearing in their possession.

The contents of SCP-5XXX vary depending on the recipient, but examination of SCP-5XXX [instances] is that all instances feature an emotional sentiment from an individual emotionally close to the subject. Messages in SCP-5XXX have been recorded to be from spouses, lovers, parents, children, siblings, extended family members, and friends. In the month following exposure to SCP-5XXX, subjects will develop a mental illness (dubbed SCP-5XXX-1) superficially similar to that of paranoid personality disorder (PPD). Following incident [5XXX-1], the efficacy of using amnestics to treat SCP-5XXX exposure has been proven inadequate.

Those afflicted with SCP-5XXX-1 will experience all Type A symptoms, and two or more Type B symptoms.

Type A symptoms of hallucinations and delusions, and type B symptoms of intrusive thoughts and paranoia will manifest [with a single focus] across all subjects: the subject will gain an intense and irrational belief that their interpersonal relationships are deteriorating. This delusion will be reinforced by [anomalously caused] visual, audio, and tactile hallucinations.

Incident [5XXX-1]revealed additional information regarding SCP-5XXX's anomalous properties: if SCP-5XXX, regardless of instance, goes unread for an extended period of time or is destroyed, the anomaly's range of properties will expand. This manifests as an increased range at which an instance of SCP-5XXX may appear, and the form it may take.
