Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures:
//SCP-XXXX-A, -B, and -C are to be contained within separate aquatic containment tanks individually calibrated to simulate the temperature, pressure, and salinity of ~4300 below the Atlantic Ocean. Each SCP-XXXX is to be fed 10g of zooplankton biweekly.
SCP-XXXX containment tanks must be insulated as to be completely impervious to outgoing sound, with a similarly soundproof “airlock” serving as the only access to each. No audio recording or relaying devices of any kind are to be placed within, however cameras and non-recording audio sensors are permitted for monitoring purposes.//
All personnel within 15m of an unsecured SCP-XXXX are to be equipped with Type 4 auditory protective equipment. Personnel may not come into direct physical contact with any SCP-XXXX, and are under no circumstances to submerge any exposed portion of their person within a body of water containing SCP-XXXX. Cleaning, feeding, and sample collection within containment tanks will solely be carried out remotely.
Description: SCP-XXXX are ahermatypic scleractinians native to the abyssal zone of the ocean. A colonial species, each SCP-XXXX is made up of many genetically identical polyps, referred to individually as SCP-XXXX-1. These SCP-XXXX-1 reproduce asexually via budding, resulting in the SCP-XXXX's branching skeletal structure. SCP-XXXX are capable of reproduction by colonial fragmentation, however these offspring will remain genetically identical. There are currently 3 genetically distinct SCP-XXXX discovered, each of which display differences in size, pigmentation, and SCP-XXXX-2. The origin of the 3 SCP-XXXX, (SCP-XXXX-A, -B, and -C respectively) is currently unknown, as no SCP-XXXX has been observed to be capable of sexual reproduction. The age of these instances, given their growth rate and current size, has been estimated to be upwards of 20,000 years.
SCP-XXXX-1, in addition to being components of an SCP-XXXX's colonial biology, are extremely versatile endosymbionts. Upon detaching itself from SCP-XXXX and exiting its corallite, SCP-XXXX-1 are capable of swimming a short distance to reach a potential host. It will then begin the implantation process, entering the host's body through a suitable orifice and quickly travelling to the brain where it will root and begin to extend its tentacles throughout a lobe. At this point, full symbiosis has been achieved and the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 will manifest. (For further details on the implantation process and effects of SCP-XXXX-1 symbiosis in humans, see [INSERT LATER]) SCP-XXXX-1 have proven to be compatible with any organism physically capable of hosting them.
SCP-XXXX-2 is a cognitohazardous vibration emitted from SCP-XXXX with an average duration of 1.17 seconds.1 Once cognized by any vulnerable sentient organism, SCP-XXXX-2 triggers an anomalous "shutdown" response that rapidly disrupts the neurological function of the victim. The precise effect of disruption varies depending on the species effected, however in all cases it results in the total failure of one or more vital biological systems followed by death. SCP-XXXX-2 has shown to have an efficacy of 100%.
Although SCP-XXXX-2 is emitted from SCP-XXXX solely in the form of vibration, it retains its anomalous effects when perceived in any manner or converted into any medium of information (see attached experimental report.)
