Item #: SCP-3949

Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3949 is to be contained at Provisional Dimensional Site-37 located at coordinates ██°██'██.█"█ █°█'██.█"█. 20 meter concrete walls surround SCP-3949 with guard posts erected at 20 different points along the wall to survey for any civilian boats or other potentially harmful objects. They are to be staffed by two MTF guards stationed there 24/7. Absolutely no one is allowed past the walls into SCP-3949 without confirmation from the Site-37 Research Director. Buoys are put up surrounding the island 1 Kilometer away from SCP-3949 to warn boats of Chemical Biohazard material near in the water after the buoys, and to go around the buoys for safe travel. Any boat or non-foundation personnel that goes past the buoy is to be redirected away from SCP-3949 by radio contact from the guards. Anyone who violates this and attempts to get past the walls into SCP-3949 or does not turn away from SCP-3949 is to be shot and disposed of immediately. Any research inside SCP-3949 or in Site-37 are to be accompanied by 2 MTF guards, and patrolling MTF guards to be 3 in number. MTF squads Taiwan and Birdy Down are to be stationed on Site-37 at all times. SCP-3949-2 is to be kept on Site-37 in its own light containment cell in Level 2.

Note from Doctor Sweeney, dateline 09/09/1998: If any Research Personnel goes into SCP-3949 without two MTF guards with the appropriate gear WILL be demoted and transferred to some other site, that is you survive. We don't want you screwing this up. This island may be good for walks, but we don't want you to get ambushed by some cultist. I'm serious about this. Just because they don't normally kill humans doesn't mean they will. And we don't know when that snake is trying to escape. So keep those doors locked.

Description: SCP-3949 is an island located approximately 104 Kilometers East of ███████ Island, Russia. SCP-3949 is around 5.2 Kilometers wide and 7 Kilometers in length. SCP-3949's average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit) despite the average temperature of islands in that vicinity -25 degrees Celsius (-13 degrees Fahrenheit). The waters around SCP-3949, however, are extremely cold ranging from -42 degrees Celsius to -99 degrees Celsius (-43 degrees Fahrenheit to -146 degrees Fahrenheit). Despite this, the water does not freeze and retains its absurdly cold properties. This cold water is present around SCP-3949 until approximately 0.5 Kilometers away, where it heats up to regular temperatures for that area. SCP-3949 itself, however, is surprisingly tropical, with multiple species of Crab, Bird, and Reptiles being present on SCP-3949 along with a currently unidentified species of Palm tree. SCP-3949's temperature does not seem to be affected by the cold seas around it, staying hot all year round.

SCP-3949-1 describes a Siberian tribe native to SCP-3949. Around 100 members of the tribe exist on SCP-3949 at any time. Members of SCP-3949-1 can be seen night or day knocking down Coconuts from palm trees and killing birds and crabs with crude spears and bows. SCP-3949-1 are mostly designated in one cave complex in SCP-3949 with the main entrance being located in the center of the island. SCP-3949-1 depend on Coconuts and the native animals for food. SCP-3949-1 has large huts and crude wooden homes in the cave system under SCP-3949. SCP-3949-1 has a developed language and writing system, though no one has been able to decrypt it to this day. Very little is known of the spoken language and the written language. Members of SCP-3949-1 write by engraving messages onto slabs of limestone from the caves using pickaxes or any sharp tool. No other product of SCP-3949-1's culture is seems to be made. No pottery, drawings, or even simple cave drawings are not produced by SCP-3949-1. SCP-3949-1's main purpose on the island is to summon SCP-3949-3. They seem to summon SCP-3949-3 by assembling assorted writings on limestone tabs in the shape of a square in any part of the island. These squares can be as small or as large as anyone wants. SCP-3949-3 is directly proportional to the size of the square. SCP-3949-3 is seen appearing out of these squares. SCP-3949 has been hostile to all and any attempts of communication.

SCP-3949-2 is a coconut recovered from SCP-3949. SCP-3949-2 possesses the ability to talk and hear in English, and shows signs of Sentience akin to humans. SCP-3949-2 claims to be from another reality, as SCP-3949-3 is. See interview log 01-3949 for further information on SCP-3949-2 and current standings.

SCP-3949-3 is a serpentine-like being that is summoned when people from SCP-3949-1 assemble writings in a square formation at any point. SCP-3949-3 will slither out from the bottom of the square, appearing out of sand, stone, or any surface that the square is made on. The size of SCP-3949-3 is directly based on how large the summoning square is. The largest recorded length of SCP-3949-3 is when the summoning square was roughly 4 Kilometers long. SCP-3949-3 was around 500 meters in length, or 1640 feet. The usual size of the summoning square is only a meter long, and so the average length SCP-3949-3 is only 12.5 centimeters long. SCP-3949-3 will actively seek out to escape the island. Shown through tests, SCP-3949-3 can not swim. When SCP-3949-3 is present, members of SCP-3949-1 will try to bring SCP-3949-3 to the shore, usually ending with failure. SCP-3949-3 will not bite members if SC-3949-1. SCP-3949-3's bite has been known to penetrate Kevlar and certain types of stone. When SCP-3949-3 bites any living being, plant or otherwise, its body temperature will begin to rise dramatically. Human subjects usually die within 5 minutes as they are simply charred to death. Liquids in the body are converted into gases and steam, and the fat and DNA will also begin to melt in the subject. The same process happens with all living things, and there is no cure once bitten. SCP-3949-3 seems impervious to all types of damage, and is extremely hot itself. The exact temperature of SCP-3949-3 is unknown, but touching SCP-3949-3 usually leads to severe third degree burns. SCP-3949-3 can stay on the island for an indefinite period of time, but once it observes that it can not escape, or at any time it wishes to leave, SCP-3949-3 shall simply vanish from whatever place it is currently at.

Doctor Sweeney: Hello. My name is… Dr. Sweeney, in charge of Research Operations on this Island. I've been told you can speak, is that true?
SCP-3949-2: Yes.
Doctor Sweeney: Now. Are you aware that you are… A coconut?
SCP-3949-2: Yes. I have always been a coconut.
Doctor Sweeney: Do you have a name I should call you?
SCP-3949-2: I have never required a name. I assume the name 'James' should do well… Is that a name that is common in your reality?
Doctor Sweeney: Erm… Yes, James. James is quite common of a name. My cousin's named James. Now, would you mind telling me how you speak and hear English?
SCP-3949-2: I have learned how to process things in that sense and speak English in preparation of heading here.
Doctor Sweeney: Ah… Mind telling me where you came from?
SCP-3949-2: The same place where <undecipherable sound> comes from… Yes… Yes… The Serpent.
Doctor Sweeney: Hm…<Short Pause> Describe where you both come from.
SCP-3949-2: A reality different than yours. There is a hole between the two. The natives of this Island use it to their advantage. They wish for the Serpent to come. Come between realties. Already, many have used the hole to jump through. I have come as well, to warn you.
Doctor Sweeney: Go on, James.
SCP-3949-2: The citizens of the realm of where the Serpent comes from finds this reality disgusting. At all points of the world, they try to come out. To come and attack. They have mostly stopped at the turn of the… 1000th year, using your time. But they still try. I am not even of the Serpent's realm. There are many holes, many realities…
Doctor Sweeney: So you've come here to warn us of that Serpent and other things from that reality. Okay. Do you plan to stay here?
SCP-3949-2: I have no choice. I went in the hole and it closed. I think this reality will satisfy me, however. I've always wondered, what do camels look like? They don't appear in most realties, I've found…
Doctor Sweeney: I'll… I'll arrange it. Thank you, James.
