My Darling.

When the Earth comes to an end

When Our Loving Mother comes to a rest

I want you and I

Holding

Hands
at the end of the world.

Just…
You and I.

You and I.[]

The Foundation had been lost to time. Nobody today had known what it had been; there had been nobody left alive to discover such a thing. The earth continued to grow fruit, regardless of the fact that her original children had been lost. Earth belongs to the beasts now. A wind blows past, through the broken window. A pair of collapsed wings sit in the rubble next to a pile of black nothingness. This had been one of the sites of the lost Foundation. It doesn't matter how long it had been, the world had taken over, with vines, shrubbery, forests of steel and metal.
A dog wanders in, oblivious to the noises occuring inside. There's a chorus of whistles, sirens and gongs. Gongs for an escaped Euclid, a whistle for the no longer safe. A Keter siren screams in the darkness, suggesting a containment breach occured.

It seems so.

It didn't matter that the containment breach or whatever that had doomed the world had ended long ago. The siren was ever faithful. The dog continues, scratching at a near fossilized pair of wings. There's a computer, still on in the wind, displaying a singular message.

'I'm Sorry.' The monitor flickers again.

SCP-4810 during phase two. Unable to identify red object.

Special Containment Procedures:

Description: SCP-4810 refers to a phenomenon affecting large populations of deceased individuals within a two kilometer squared area. All cadavers affected by an instance of SCP-4810 begin to develop anomalous abilities, such as levitation and unnatural body change.

The first recorded viewing of SCP-4810 had been described below.1

It was like the sky was the ocean, and the wandering corpses the fish in the deep sea… I was a caretaker at the local cemetery. You had to ignore every sound and every odd thing you see out in the corner of your eye. But this, this I couldn't ignore. I couldn't. Sometimes people come to me, all frantic that they saw a ghost. Ghosts aren't real. This is. And that idea frightens me. It wasn't the corpses that bothered me, I was used to them. I'm a gravetender. Sometimes you see a misplaced arm or blotchy skin, or… The point is, these corpses did not look normal. They had this thick, blackish coating, like the butterfly's cocoon. And then… The wings burst through the cocoons, and all of them flew off into this suffocating brightness. It was like looking into the eye of God.

The phenomenon consists of three distinct phases, viewable below.

  • Stage One: An affected corpse will begin to develop a hard, exterior shell. This coating has been described as similar towards coal in both texture and appearance. However, geological testing has proved fruitless, as this protective shell has an anomalously high Mohs hardness.2
  • Stage Two: During this stage, a large luminescent structure will begin to materialize in the atmosphere at an unknown altitude. Precise measurements regarding structural size, material, and light levels are unknown. After the structure materializes, affected cadavers will begin to develop wing-like appendages.3 These wing structures have been observed bursting through the outer coatings, and are able to retract back into the exterior structure if the SCP-4810 event fails for whatever reason.
  • Stage Three: Affected corpses will begin to levitate in a spiral formation, advancing into the main structure. After most of the cadavers are within the structure, it will begin to demanifest, and effected cadavers will return to a standard, non-anomalous state.

The location where affected cadavers end up after the third stage is unknown. Dummy corpses have been sent into the anomaly as of ██/ ██/ ████, but had been later rejected from the light-emitting structure, with the dummy's arms and legs removed, later recovered half a kilometer away.

Following the Charon test, it has been discovered that affected individuals materialize into a pocket reality, composed of differing material depending on the subject. Deceased inividuals are often found in the pocket dimension, but will violently 'explode' if touched.

SCP-4810 Addendum No. 1 Experiment and Testing Proposal (Project Charon).

  • Preface: The following outline was written by SCP-4810 head researcher Alice Lámonte, and Junior Researchers Doctor Fred Jules, and Alex Vivielle.
  • Abstract: The following experiment guidelines had been prepared to identify the inner workings of SCP-4810 and to determine the following: how an instance occurs and why, and to determine where the affected cadavers end up after the end of the SCP-4810 event.

Due to increased instances of SCP-4810 being sighted, as well as a solitary death at the Foundation, it can be assumed that the event will happen eventually at Foundation headquarters. Therefor, biweekly, three D-Class subjects are to be injected with the following drugs: Pancuronium bromide, in order to to create muscle paralysis and respiratory arrest, and potassium chloride to stop the heart.

Theoretically, a SCP-4810 instance may claim the D-Class subjects, allowing an opportunity to properly understand the phenomenon. All cadavers in Foundation Site will be placed in the same area as the D-Class and administered the same equipment.

  • Experiment Equipment: The following has been deemed a necessity for the proposed experiment.
  • 3 D-Class members, or three Foundation members awaiting Termination.
  • Standard Protective devices, including a gas-mask and two first aid kits.
  • A hand-crank radio, one for each D-Class member or Foundation Doctorate awaiting termination.
  • A camera, one for each D-Class member or Foundation Doctorate awaiting Termination. Camera must be able to record audio and video.

  • Experiment Outline: The following will be put into practice to allow a manifestation of SCP-4810.

Stage One: Three D-Class Test subjects are to be restrained, and placed in a mobile hospital bed, with one meter between each bed. D-Class subjects are to be given supplies before injection. A large population of cadavers are to be placed in the same room, increasing chance of an SCP-4810 event occuring.

Stage Two: Foundation Nurses are to inject the D-Class with the following drugs: Pancuronium bromide, in order to to create muscle paralysis and respiratory arrest, and potassium chloride to stop the heart. Both of these injections are to be applied one by one. Injections to the other D-Class subjects are to be done in a five minute time frame.

Stage Three: The outer coating will occur, eventually triggering SCP-4810's second phase.

Stage Four: SCP-4810's final phase will occur, allowing Dr. Alice Lámonte, and Junior Researchers Fred Jules, Alex Viville along with Foundation acess into the inner areas of SCP-4810.

SCP-4810 Addendum No. 2: Charon test activation:

20190328_193853.jpg

SCP-4810 during the Charon Test. The bright lights were originally thought to have been the three D-Class Test Subjects, but this is unconfirmed.

On █/█/███, the Charon Test was sucesfully implemented, with the target of at least one D-Class operative inside SCP-4810. The following is a transcription of the events following the activation of the Charon Test.

SCP-4810 Addendum No. 3 (Exploration Logs.)

  • Preface: Two of the three D-Class test subjects that have been sent into SCP-4810 have made it into the structure without loss. These two test subjects, D-1262 and D-A1713, managed to explore much of the inner structure of SCP-4810. The following is known from both explorations:
  • SCP-4810's interiors are made up rooms, hallways, staircases and doors. Much of this interior has been described as similar to that of an abandoned and forclosed property. Unidentified shrubbery and other plant-life had been discovered.
  • The interior, structure and main 'materials' of the inner SCP-4810 structure change depending on the individual inside. This interior has been shown to be different when compared to the two test-subjects. D-1262 perceived SCP-4810's interior to be hot and humid, straightforward, constructed out of stone and thatch, while D-A1713 perceived SCP-4810 as narrow and confusing, while constructed out of pinewood, concrete, and steel.
  • Dead individuals are able to be seen by an individual when in SCP-4810. These dead individuals do not age, do not require food or water, rest and do not biologically age. However, a native individual will rapidly vanish if contact is made.
  • Cadavers found in a specific SCP-4810 location are significant to the individual that entered. They range from family members, romantic partners, and even victims.

The machine collapsed, dead, like so many others in the world.
Because of one person.

Isn't that selfish?

Perhaps, but of course there was a reason. There always is.

Power trembled again in the remains of what had been the Foundation. The dog ran off, finding little food, no friends. There was still birds in the sky, and the green grass, much of which covered the remains of the AO2 lab, and the barren containment cells. Even with the main computer down, information is still there, somewhere. On the ground, the dog knocked over a notebook, next to the computer. Hastily written on the top, was 'Alice Lámonte'.

The Keter siren stopped, same as the Euclid gong, the Safe whistle. The last of the lights flickered one last time. A chunk of the Foundation's wall, already compromised due to the wild grasses, collapsed. There was one last angel, flying into the light.

The Foundation was finally dead.

The computer shot to life, one more time.

There was a file print-out, next to a poem, signed Lámonte.

Let the Grand world end, but only if you and I
Can hold hands, into the abyss
And be one.
You and I.
My Darling.
