SCP-5020 inside a smoke stack in Harrodsburg, Kentucky
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 5m x 5m containment chamber outfitted with a Class-A ventilation system. The opening to the chamber must consist of at least one (1) airtight ventilation chamber. The subject’s chamber must be cleaned semiweekly to prevent over-accumulation of soot and tar.
A radio, books, and newspapers are to be provided and are to be rotated every week, if the subject is finished reading them.
All personnel who enter SCP-XXXX’s containment chamber must be outfitted with gas masks to prevent asphyxiation.
Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a human male standing at 1.82m that is affixed to a section of masonry brick wall via two (2) pieces of rebar bent at a 180° angle, standing at 2.13m tall and .30m wide. The rebar is located around the subject’s ankles and waste.
The skin of SCP-XXXX is comprised of a porous mixture of gypsum plaster, concrete, and bits of newspaper dating back to the early 1900’s. Despite being comprised of relatively soft materials, researchers have been unable to damage the subject’s exterior. X-Ray scans reveal the skeleton of an African American male is inside the concrete exterior. Its face lacks any human facial features, save for a nose and divots where the eyes would be. The subject wears simple cotton clothing, consisting of a white button up shirt, white button fly pants, and a light blue undershirt along with a black leather fedora. From the subject’s waste-up it has full human range of motion, however from the waste-down, the subject is completely immobile – like a statue.
SCP-XXXX is incapable of speech, although faint muffled sounds can be heard coming from the subject’s facial region, as if it is trying to communicate – all attempts to cut into the mouth of the subject, to allow speech, have been unsuccessful. The subject does, however, communicate via pantomime. SCP-XXXX has proven to be very friendly toward facility personnel; it is often seen greeting and “talking” to personnel though hand gestures. Subject has even offered to help clean its cell to the best of its ability.
SCP-XXXX constantly releases smoke, in varying amounts, from the pores of its body despite a lack of flame anywhere on the subject’s person. The smoke contains carbon, tar, anomalously large amounts of carbon monoxide. The scent accompanied by the smoke smells like a combination of cigar smoke, burning wood, and gasoline. Despite the large amounts of smoke potentially released from the subject's body, it seems to still be able to see as it’s been seen reading, even when the subject is completely enveloped in smoke. Testing personnel who have entered the chamber without a breathing apparatus have lost consciousness in less than ten (10) minutes and have died after 30 (thirty) minutes. The subject has shown signs of distress when someone is in danger due to its smoke.
SCP-XXXX was discovered in an old warehouse on June ██, 2006 - located in Harrodsburg, Kentucky - sealed inside a smoke stack. The facility discovered the subject when construction workers accidentally broke a hole in the smoke stack and smoke started to billow out. Personnel were dispatched to retrieve the subject after the local fire department reported that the source of the smoke wasn’t a fire, but “some strange statue.” All civilians with knowledge of SCP-XXXX were amnesticized after the subject had been removed from the location.
