"Luck is bullshit, dude."
JJ paced back and forth inside the bathroom of the Chili's, not sure what direction to take the call next. He wanted to throw up, but more importantly, he had to save face. If there was anything he was known for among his closest friends, it was his natural talent of staying cool and collected under pressure and stress.
"If I actually had luck, today wouldn't have been a complete disaster. Right?"
"Mmhm."
"Now I'm in the bathroom of a Chili's and I want to die."
"Hell yeah."
"Uh… Miss Gay?"
"Huh?" Esther grunted. "Oh, right. Sorry, I was really caught up in this match."
"Oh, okay, lemme know when you're done," JJ said before hanging up, not catching Esther's confused noise in time. "…oh. Shit. What am I doing here still?"
As he stuffed the phone in his pocket, JJ peeked out of the corner to see if the people he was hiding from had left. Careful scanning of the area

Nothingness isn't fair to attribute to it. It was like actively seeing the color black inside its in-between concept of being… itself? That implies existing while that takes place, and existance is. It's… purgatory? Purgatory only implies we're dead, but if that were true, we would need to endure punishment to be let into Heaven. Even then, I felt like simply associating with the Foundation prevented me from grace. This wasn't Hell either.
It's just all philosophizing to pass the time. I'm scared.
I don't know why we're linked to each other if we really do share the same impossible space. It gives the impression that this space is for those who died as fakes. I know what's fake about me. But if that were true, then I have no idea what I share with her besides filtered-down gossip.
Regardless of all that, in the end, I waan't such an anomaly yet as to disregard what appears to be an innocent teen (who, unfortunately for me, is closer to being an emotional child anyway). Of course, I didn't want to pretend to be her father anymore. Abandoning her, however, wasn't an option.
