Special containment procedures
SCP 5849 must be contained in a steel locker in a steel room 20m by 20m by 20m. Personnel with security clearance lower than level 3 are not permitted inside it’s containment with the exception of experiments. Nobody is to go within at least 15m of SCP 5849.
Description
SCP 5849 is a suicide note written with a black ballpoint marker on a piece of A5 notepad paper. The Note reads “I can’t go on like this anymore, I only feel cold and depressed without her, so I’m ending it. Goodbye cruel world” the phrase “Goodbye cruel world” is repeated 27 times after the original, in different handwriting and different ink colours, suggesting 27 other people have read the note.
Abilities
If anyone enters within 15m of SCP 5849, they will feel a compulsive need to read it, but most can fight it off. If anyone enters 10m of SCP 5849 they must be removed from the area, but if unsuccessful they will begin to have a strong desire to read The Note, and will attack or maim anyone who attempts to interfere, but will not kill. If anyone should enter within 5m of The Note, they will begin to go to any lengths necessary to read SCP 5849, these measures include murder and arson. If it progresses to this, there is no hope, for if the subject would be removed they would go insane and incredibly violent. If anyone should read the note, a black ballpoint pen appears via unknown means, the reader will write the phrase “Goodbye cruel world” under the rest. Then, 1 of items will appear, again by unknown means, these items include: a noose, a knife, a loaded gun and (more rarely) a match. The reader will then use the item to kill themselves. If the reader cannot finish writing “Goodbye cruel world” they will fall unconscious, and wake 15 to 20 minutes later, expressionless and with all skin pigment gone, they will become known as “SCP 5849-2” and will attempt to make others read The Note and will become incredibly violent. Any instance of SCP 5849-2 must be terminated.
Recovery
The foundation was called to an apartment complex in after numerous people became violent and started killing themselves. The police force were called originally, but the abilities of SCP 5849 affected them as well. There were numerous casualties during the retrieval of The Note, due to the foundation knowing nothing of its abilities, the foundation was forced to evacuate everyone from the complex, and rope off the area for research into the nature of SCP 5849. It took 3 days to learn the abilities of The Note, which was carried away via helicopter attached to a 20 meter chain.
