"The vague "worst luck imaginable" is the supposed trait the entity possesses, as it undergoes a horrifying and seemingly absurd tradition into an immobile, static object.
For the thing it is being carved into, I have a few ideas;
Something akin to a Greek statue, made of perfectly marbled flesh
An abstract piece, a tower of spine, and flesh, that is aesthetically pleasing
A bone fountain, spouting human and unknown substances
A cycle of creating this supposed masterpiece, and then reverting back to its original self, maybe with a new scar, marking, etc.
I think it could just be that the longer this guy goes without an ‘accident,’ the easier it is for something mundane to cause a dangerous ‘accident’ and the more dangerous it’ll be. In this way, the main person can be the victim here and then it just all becomes more horrifying.
this may be a punishment, but masochism is a great idea as his mental health deteriorates violently. His journey dealing with his constant unrelenting suffering would be an interesting journey.
Lore Idea three: An inter dimensional artist is molding his finest creation.
While I think exploring how this cycle affects his psyche is a good idea, I would warn against making him mute. Complicating communication also complicates storytelling.
Additionally though I would personally like a little demonic spin with all the ‘accidents’ that happen. add a little demonic flavoring to the mix, just try and make it tasteful.
Also I totally like this idea, and do think that a working article is possible from this. Feel free to send me a PM if you ever want some critique - I feel invested now. -DrDromeus
The Beautiful Flesh is developed enough for an article
!Warning: Do not make him mute
!Warning: Satanism is cliched. If added, make it tasteful. Not too much, not too little.
!Inter dimensional artist as a lore point sticks
!Create a set of behaviors for the artist. Maybe he is mad that the foundation took his only fully controlled human flesh? Or is he practicing? Does he not want to show off his work?
!Complicating communication also complicates storytelling.
!This is a cycle, with multiple art works being created one by one over time.
Maybe the being isn't quite happy with how each one turns out, and starts over, perpetuating the cycle. I don't know why it would think the Foundation would be a good place to show it off, though. They are more interested in locking things away than displaying them.
I completely agree, this inter dimensional artist needs a set of consistent behaviors and traits. The artist also needs some sort of trail so the foundation may have some concept of him, and a method of dimensional interference. It would seem that the dimensional interference is taken care of, as the interference should be the mutilation events? Would that be enough? I'm sure that one of the traits it may have occurred to you, Atilla, as you were writing your reply. The artist could have a history of showing off the monstrous displays in the most open of areas, in the most public of spaces, so he may record reactions and more easily document it for the community he is apart of. This history may have a ramp up of daring placement, from open fields, to a public area, where the SCP will be reported and detained. I'm sure the inter dimensional anomaly would not be pleased with that outcome, as it would not allow him to as easily document his masterpieces. The method of documentation needs to be worked out for this to really be cemented. Maybe the being could take snapshots of time? This would give a reason for the open spaces, and explain the annoyance of having his piece be secluded under layers of secrecy. Though this entire problem could be paved over if he was just toying with the clay he chose. As his masterpieces go on, it would be easy to make the inter dimensional anomaly a dynamic character.
After this interference event, would it be reasonable to assume that the artist would need such and such level of obsession, so he could be reasonably frustrated enough for this to effect his work, and the foundation could take note of it. Either that, or it(the anomaly) could just choose another man when his first bit of clay is hidden. With the first step of it's traits worked out, I am sure an archetype can be formed.
Archetype one: The artist feels the urge to document and share his findings with the reality he is apart of. This could take the form of it sending media of his works to the foundation that stole his clay. It could randomly disperse information about his masterpieces. Another form this could take is that it is part of a community of other artists, and feels the need to share with them. This could mesh with DrDromeus's idea of having every mutilation event increase in severity when in captivity. This would also allow for signs of annoyance from the artist.
Archetype two: It is so incredibly obsessed with it's work that it does not share documentation, or does not document at all. This obsession would have to increase due to the fact that the SCP is it's only way to artistically express itself. This would mesh with DrDromeus's idea of having every mutilation event increase in severity when in captivity. It would also mesh with the idea of the artist becoming insane and destroying his bit of clay in a horrific ways, without artistic direction, and in ways that could harm foundation staff.
Archetype three: The artist does not invest all of his time into creating the pieces. If some material is available to him, it will reuse it. This allows for the possibility of hiatus's. Once the foundation completely closes off any way of manipulation for the host, it will simply pick a new human being (preferably near the first work, as it would be less of a hassle for it) to use as a block of marble. This would bypass annoyance.
Archetype four: The entity loves the SCP, and attempts to mutilate the SCP's flesh in more humane ways. Every masterpiece takes time, and is of utmost quality and perfection. The artist documents its masterpiece's, and it finds pride in them.
Archetype five: The entity is intensely interested in human nature and culture, and is studying not only aesthetics but is also using it's knowledge of human affairs and incorporating them into masterpieces. This could align with DrDomeus's tasteful satanism, as the artist takes a artistic stance on religion, creating a series of works based around that. An interest in religion would completely suit this archetype, as religion is incredibly impactful throughout human history. A scholar at heart, it would document its artwork with a passion.
Additionally though I would personally like a little demonic spin with all the ‘accidents’ that happen. But satanism and the whole cult thing is also cliché…so if you wanna add a little demonic flavoring to the mix, just try and make it tasteful.
I sympathize with wanting to avoid the "woah its literally satan" gimmick. What the artist could do is take inspiration from the human culture that created satanism and incorporate it into it's process. This would also allow for an archetype to be more easily constructed. Either the artist is incredibly interested in human affairs, and takes note of them, bringing in inspiration, or the artist is attempting to fool the foundation of it's true nature. I dont know why I would not want to make the anomaly an edgelord.
