SCP-XXXX in its purified state.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Site-199 is to be established around SCP-XXXX. No civilians are to enter within a 1 kilometer radius of SCP-XXXX. Any civilian attempting to enter Site-199 is be told the cover story that the area is a private copper mine and to be turned away.
A group of at least two sheep are to be kept at Site-199 at all times. Every three days, one sheep weighing 45 or more kilograms is to be placed into SCP-XXXX and staff are to make sure that the sheep has died in or sunk into SCP-XXXX. If any black liquid is observed in SCP-XXXX, a sheep is to be immediately placed inside SCP-XXXX and its death within the water confirmed.
If SCP-XXXX is observed as being entirely made up of black liquid, see Addendum XXXX.01.
No humans are to enter SCP-XXXX except for testing purposes. All testing of SCP-XXXX with sapient entities must be authorized by the Site Director. Any Class D personnel used in testing must pass a standard health exam.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an 3 x 3 meter circular area of freshwater located in ████████, Arizona. The body of water acts as non-anomalous water would. SCP-XXXX appears to exhibit no bottom, as attempting to swim downwards will only yield more water.
Any organism that dies while inside SCP-XXXX will slowly sink even if the organism is less dense than the water. This phenomenon will only occur if the organism weighs 45 kilograms or more and that it was killed by the water in SCP-XXXX in someway. If no organism dies inside of SCP-XXXX within a certain time frame, a black liquid with the same consistency of water appears in the center of SCP-XXXX. This black liquid, left without an acceptable organism's death, will slowly expand outwards over the course of 15 minutes until it reaches the edges of SCP-XXXX. Once SCP-XXXX is entirely black, [REDACTED] (see Incident XXXX-1).
How long SCP-XXXX stays in its purified state depends on the intelligence of the absorbed organism. Any sapient organism absorbed into SCP-XXXX allows it to stay in its purified state for about 1 week, while any non-sapient organism that is absorbed will allow SCP-XXXX to stay in its purified state for 3-4 days. Non-biological entities will not be absorbed into SCP-XXXX.
Due to its requirement of living organisms, possible living status of SCP-XXXX is currently pending.
Addendum XXXX-1: In case of SCP-XXXX becoming SCP-XXXX-1, the following steps are to be carried out as quickly as possible.
- One class D personnel (hereby designated D-XXXX-A) is to be acquired and sent into the possession of an agent.
- The agent is to be sent in, with D-XXXX-A, to SCP-XXXX-1 and both be equipped with oxygen masks.
- The agent is to drown D-XXXX-A into SCP-XXXX-1 until D-XXXX-A is pronounced dead.
- The agent is to wait until SCP-XXXX-1 transforms into SCP-XXXX.
- Procedure is complete and the agent may be removed from the area. Normal protocol resumes after 6 days.
Incident XXXX-A:
On ██/██/████, five days after the initial containment of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX was observed slowly filling with a unidentified black liquid and eventually becoming SCP-XXXX-1. Nearby personnel observed this change and alerted Site Director ████████. All on-site personnel were promptly evacuated and sent to a remote location while a class D personnel, equipped with a radio and camera, was sent to investigate this change. The following is a transcription of radio communication between relocated Site-199 personnel and subject D-XXXX-1 investigating the transformation of SCP-XXXX.

[EXTRANEOUS DIALOGUE EXPUNGED]
Command: Please approach the body of water.
D-XXXX-1: Alright, alright, I'm going.
D-XXXX-1 is seen walking towards SCP-XXXX for 30 seconds before stopping.
D-XXXX-1: What the hell? Why is the water pitch black?
Command: Continue to approach the body of water.
D-XXXX-1 is seen moving towards SCP-XXXX for 5 seconds before D-XXXX-1 abruptly puts his hands to his throat. Choking noises are heard from D-XXXX-1.
Command: What is happening, D-XXXX-1?
D-XXXX-1 continues to gasp for air for 3 seconds before collapsing.
Command: D-XXXX-1, please respond.
No response from D-XXXX-1. Camera shows nothing happening.

After this event, MTF Mu-13 ("Ghostbusters") was dispatched to SCP-XXXX's location, suited with oxygen masks and 02 sensors.

MTF Mu-13 walks towards SCP-XXXX and stops 7 meters away from it.
Bridge: Found D-XXXX-1. Moving in to investigate.
Agent Bridge walks towards D-XXXX-1 while Agent Dietrich stays behind. After Bridge is 5 meters from SCP-XXXX, Bridge's O2 sensor starts detecting no oxygen in the air.
Bridge: O2 sensor is saying that there's no oxygen in here.
Dietrich: Mine is saying that there is oxygen, normal amounts too.
Bridge: Weird… Checking D-XXXX-1.
Bridge: No signs of life or anomalous activity. Dietrich, use your O2 sensor to see where the vacuum starts; I'll go investigate the water.
Dietrich: Roger.
