Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The entrance to SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 5 meter by 5 meter chamber. Personnel of Security Clearance Level 3 (or higher) are permitted to test SCP-XXXX pending approval from a site supervisor. Foundation counterparts within SCP-XXXX-1 are to be alerted to the entrance of any unauthorized personnel to coordinate retrieval and termination. Any unauthorized personnel exiting SCP-XXXX are to likewise be returned to Foundation counterparts within SCP-XXXX-1. Testing is suspended at this time following Test 06. Any matter exiting SCP-XXXX's chamber exceeding 50 kDa in size is to be sterilized with 250 nm UV radiation and incinerated.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a spherical spatial distortion, 4 meters in diameter. Any matter contacting SCP-XXXX will be displaced into an alternate reality designated SCP-XXXX-1. Electromagnetic radiation cannot enter or exit SCP-XXXX; SCP-XXXX resembles a black circle when viewed at any angle as a result. SCP-XXXX-1 is identical to baseline reality. Tests coordinated with Foundation counterparts in SCP-XXXX-1 have revealed several key differences between SCP-XXXX-1 and baseline reality. All biological life native to SCP-XXXX-1 is composed of molecular building blocks of opposing chirality to baseline biological life, with no apparent resulting detriment. The lack of compatible disease vectors between baseline humans and chiral humans have led several senior researchers and their counterparts in SCP-XXXX-1 to propose that their respective O5 Councils reside in opposing realities to prolong their lives. No biological matter is to be sent to SCP-XXXX-1. All matter exiting SCP-XXXX is to be sterilized and incinerated. Efforts to create chiral bacteriophages and intracellular plant parasites of as high virulence and general compatibility as possible to be deployed in the event of a loss of containment are underway following the O5 Council's directive.
SCP-XXXX Testing Log
Test 01
Objective: Determine whether SCP-XXXX erases matter or acts as a spatial distortion.
Test Personnel/Equipment: A wired drone was sent into SCP-XXXX with 50 meters of cable.
Procedure: Following activation, the drone revealed a chamber identical to that of SCP-XXXX's containment chamber. Researchers present initially hypothesized that SCP-XXXX is a temporal anomaly prior to the opening of the chamber's doors. Several entities, 3 resembling armed Foundation security personnel and 1 resembling a researcher, entered the chamber. The latter entity appeared visibly confused, carrying a drone trailed by a cable exiting the chamber. Contact was made using the drone's speaker system. Full dialogue audio and transcript are available at [REDACTED].
Conclusion: SCP-XXXX is a spatial distortion leading to an alternate reality henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 appears identical to baseline reality in terms of physics and human history, albeit approximately 3 minutes behind prior to initial contact.
Test 02
Objective: Verify the hypothesis that SCP-XXXX-1 is identical to baseline reality.
Test Personnel/Equipment: A cable was extended across SCP-XXXX to enable simpler two-way communication.
Procedure: Researchers and their counterparts in SCP-XXXX-1 exchanged information on physical constants including the gravitational constant and speed of light in vacuum.
Conclusion: Nonanomalous physics as currently understood in SCP-XXXX-1 is identical to baseline reality.
Test 03
Objective: Investigate interactions between biological matter from baseline reality and SCP-XXXX-1.
Test Personnel/Equipment: D-9261 from baseline reality and D-9261 from SCP-XXXX-1.
Procedure: D-9261 from each reality spent 2 months under observation in their opposite reality.
Conclusion: Despite each instance of D-9261 being provided adequate food (2500 calories) and water each day, both displayed signs of starvation prior to expiring after 43 days within approximately 2 hours of each other. Subsequent autopsies showed that no food consumed was metabolized by either instance of D-9261. SCP-XXXX-1 is not identical to baseline reality.
Test 04
Objective: Determine the difference(s) between baseline reality and SCP-XXXX-1.
Test Personnel/Equipment: 1.00 L of deionized water, 1.00 L atmospheric gases, and 1 standard D-class meal from each reality.
Procedure: Electron spectroscopy of SCP-XXXX-1's deionized water revealed identical electron structure. Abiotic contaminants were also identical. The D-class meal and bacteria isolated from the atmospheric sample from SCP-XXXX-1 showed mirrored chirality in all proteins, DNA, and RNA, deviating from all known biological life in baseline reality.
Conclusion: Though functionally identical, the homochirality of all biological life in SCP-XXXX-1 is the opposite of that of biological life in baseline reality. All proteins and nucleic acid backbones in SCP-XXXX-1 are composed of right-handed amino acids and left-handed sugars, respectively.
Test 05
Objective: Verify that molecular recognition is not possible between biological life from baseline reality and mirrored life from SCP-XXXX-1.
Test Personnel/Equipment: 1.0 mm2 samples of skin from D-9545 from baseline reality and SCP-XXXX-1 and samples of dengue virus (DENV) from baseline reality and SCP-XXXX-1.
Procedure: Skin samples were exposed to dengue virus samples from their opposite reality. In both realities, several instances of envelope proteins making direct contact with keratinocytes were noted under observation. In no instance did a dengue virus attach itself to a keratinocyte. No macroscopic signs of infection were observed.
Conclusion: Molecular recognition is not possible between biological life from baseline reality and mirrored life from SCP-XXXX-1. Infections cannot cross over into baseline reality from SCP-XXXX-1 and vice versa.
Test 06
Objective: [REDACTED]
Test Personnel/Equipment: [REDACTED]
Procedure: [REDACTED]
Conclusion: [REDACTED], causing a GH-Class "Dead Greenhouse" scenario in SCP-XXXX-1 as baseline cyanobacteria rapidly outcompeted most mirrored photosynthetic life, destabilizing and collapsing SCP-XXXX-1's biosphere as all food webs reliant upon photosynthetic producers became untenable.
Addendum-01: By the order of the Ethics Committee, Senior Researcher █████ has been terminated for his negligence in the design of experimental procedures resulting in █.█ billion deaths and the possible extinction of SCP-XXXX-1's chiral human population.
Addendum-02: By the order of the O5 Council, testing with SCP-XXXX is henceforth prohibited due to the risk of back-contamination from SCP-XXXX-1 resulting in a GH-Class "Dead Greenhouse" scenario. Special Containment Procedures are to be updated to reflect this risk. Research will commence into the creation of a counter to a potential back-contamination incident.
